SRK Competitive Pokemon Battling Thread: Logoghoul and White Shadow Win! Bye Gen 6!

how can you hate staraptor, he’s so adorable and badass at the same time

HE LEARNS CLOSE COMBAT

but yea, i’d use infernape over darmanitan for ease of use, while he doesn’t have the immediate power of darmanitan, he is an instant threat on both sides of the attacking spectrum and gets stab on fighting moves, he also has pretty good priority in iron fist mach punch along with thunderpunch as a coverage move

haha I just moved my bred/EV’d zangoose through the bank, I love that little guy.

(I keep thinking Darmanitan is Fire/Fighting for some reason.)

Also, yeah, how can you dislike all Flying types, much less Staraptor?

In order:

  1. Yes, I’m aware that Will-o-wisp would perhaps ultimately be better, but given my crap luck, I tend to miss with it rather than being able to hit all the damn time like pretty much every Rotom-W I face. Additionally, it’s not like I Trick the very first move I get with Rotom-H, especially if I see something that obviously has Assault Vest on it. The only times I’ve gotten Assault Vests on me from Tricking with that was against a Snorlax that switched and promptly died to SubDisable Gengar and, of all things, a Grumpig since I just wasn’t expecting it. Beyond that, since it is potentially suboptimal, people tend not to expect it, especially if you switch in and out like you’re Choice Specs’d. Being to run “ghetto” Will-o-wisp also lets run a healing move–well, Pain Split–and, outside of Guts pokemon, doesn’t potentially backfire as much as Tricking Choice Specs and much less Choice Scarf onto something.

  2. Had Rotom-C doing. Which you understand is why I gave Rotom-W a try on the Rain team in the first place.

  3. Understandable. I’m not sure Mega Venusaur works all that well either or, at least, as well it’s fat-ass could in Rain, but meh. It’s been working for the most part and I’m not sure how I feel about most Mega, especially since using Mega Ampharos would give me another Fairy weakness when Togekiss’s dumb ass just kicked my ass.

Namely because of the Trick Flame Orb thing, as stated above, though having Overheat which is slightly more accurate than Hydro Miss given my already shit luck also helps. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t bother using it.

And, hey, Dan can actually be pretty damn decent depending on what game one is talking about. You’re acting like I’m using 3rd Strike Sean or MvC3 Hsien-ko when I’m still using something like that’s like mid-tier at worst, even if it’s not as “optimal” as something obviously top-tier like Rotom-W.

I am just confused on using trick flame orb when he has wisp and you can use trick scarf or trick specs. They both have trick sets one just comes with a better typing. I guess if you really love ovens he has his ups lol. Yes he isn’t bad at all, but if we are talking rain team I think rotom-w WAY outclasses him.

And I have a business trip the entire Saturday, and the first half of Sunday :frowning:

idk what timezone you are but if I’m correct night of GMT+8 should fall around the early noon of people in the west part of the world or smth maybe we can try that?

EDIT: woops didn’t see the PM part that Phantasy posted. Guess I’ll PM next time then

I dislike all flying types because they shit on my favorite type, which is fighting. Taking second on most disliked is Psychic.

Favorite Types

  1. Fighting
  2. Dragon
  3. Fire

Hated Types

  1. Flying
  2. Psychic
  3. Poison

overheat also lowers your SpA two stages unlike whydro pump

honestly, rotom-c is entirely outclassed by rotom-w, i’m not sure if there is anything outside of grass that rotom-c resists that rotom-w doesn’t (and outside of mega venu and ferrothorn, you aren’t going to see grass moves, and both absolutely hate being burned)

also, your team gets walloped by talonflame, which rotom-c does nothing to help against that, which is why rotom-w or even rotom-h would help immensely against

who else is weak to fairy on the team? it’s okay to have multiple pokemon weak to fairy as those moves are almost always relegated to stab, rotom-w also helps here with azumarill (rotom-c has to watch out for ice punch), and since rotom-c is now neutral to flying, togekiss is a bigger pain

while rotom-h resisting fairy seems like an attractive choice, being a defensive pivot that is weak to SR is generally a bad idea, and being on a rain team really limits its options

when you use trick, you generally want the item you use to help you in some way, (like with flame orb clefable, having magic guard means it is immune to burn damage and now it cannot be put to sleep, more free switch-ins), and most of the things that switch into rotom would rather be burned than any other status in the game (like conkeldurr and latios)

also, because you aren’t running azumarill, rotom-w also helps with greninja, who, if it were to run a 4 attack set (like extrasensory over u-turn) would waltz all over this team

i dont care if you PM or not, i just think it’s more efficient.

(Ah, fuck it.)

Given I still have too many ideas, I think I’m just going to “borrow” a team I saw forever ago for the tournament that I wanted to try out anyway, especially since we were talking about little used moves a couple of pages back.

Uh, no. We were talking about Rotom-W on the Rain team and Rotom-H in general since I’m using a Trick Flame Orb on a completely different team that has absolutely nothing to do with Rain.

Of course Rotom-H would be dumb to use on a Rain team, which is why that’s not what’s being discussed. The Rotom forme I was using on the Rain team before Mood4food77 suggested changing it to Rotom-W was Rotom-C(utter) or, as PokemonShowdown has it labeled, Rotom-Mow(er). You know, the Electric/Grass one with Leaf Storm?

So…yeah. Both of you seem to have gotten entirely the wrong idea for some reason.

See above. For the record, when we’re talking about the Rotom-form(e)s, C is the Grass one, W is the Water one and H is the Fire one…right? Because both of you are the ones who just seemed to switch it up on me here.

(And, not that anyone tends to use either of them, but if Rotom-F is the Flying fan one with the redundant Levitate and Air Slash, is the Fridge “Rotom-I” for “Icebox” or something? It’s been so long since I looked and I’m currently too laz…oh, it’s Rotom-R on Pokemon Showdown probably given it’s labelled as “Frost”. …Unless the Flying Rotom is Rotom-A, which…actually, I think it might be since I remember Smogon calling the Fridge Rotom-F. So…Rotom-A is the Fan and Rotom-F is the Fridge. Are we agreed before this gets anymore confusing because of the gremlin ghost?)

Regardless, I’m not using a Rotom-form(e) on the Rain team at all present and I’ve decided to replace Mega Venusaur with Umbreon since I really needed a Dark (and Ghost) resist anyway. So…yeah, let’s stop talking about the already too-talked about Rotom-Wash, shall we?

RE: Rotom names: Nintendo’s official names are Frost Rotom*(Refrigerator), Heat Rotom(Oven), Wash Rotom(Goddamn Washing Machine), Mow Rotom(Lawnmower), and Fan Rotom(Fan, duh)*…

I usually refer to them as such, as those lazy ass abbreviations create too much confusion. Type that shit out, lazy mofos.

My nicknames for them are of course: Goddamn Washing Machine That Inexplicably Spits Balls Of Flame*(Will O Wisp), I Only Work On Hail Teams, Underrated Type Combo Oven, Hey, I Forgot It Even Had A Grass Form, and MODOT*(Mechanical Organism Designed Only for Trolling, aka Fan, because Thunder Wave/Swagger/Air Slash makes for a nice poor man’s Togekiss)

grass form is my favorite

So long as people run the washing machine and oven my gastrodon will come in and trap it til it dies. Unless they pack HP grass… Which never happens.

>> <<

Long live Washing Machines.

In fact…

So gastrodon uses toxic on it and gastro gets burned rotom gets down to low hp rests up then leaves lol (assuming the most common rotom set)

Rotom-H = Oven
Rotom-C = Mower
Rotom-S = Fan
Rotom-F = Fridge
Rotom-W = God Damn Washing Machine

rotom-c has the same problem rotom-h does with overheat, leaf storm drops its SpA by 2 stages, forcing it to switch out

gastrodon isn’t a big threat currently thanks to all the mega forms fucking it over entirely (or so it feels), and rotom-w is so god damn versatile, that it doesn’t need to do anything

i might start my own pokemon of the week thing on monday, cause i’m bored and you know, this is a competitive thread so might as well spark a discussion of a pokemon, just to talk about something other than beating each other to a pulp or me and po going back and forth about banning stuff

Infestation/Toxic/Stockpile/Rest Gastrodon is real. Don’t sleep on it lest you get your Goddamn Washing Machine sent back to Whirlpool for repairs.

I recently put THE GOD DAMN WASHING MACHINE on my team and I’m wondering why I did not do it sooner.

That thing is seriously like Cancer, but it keeps all the even worse things (the Herpes that is the rest of German Koffing Society’s OU tier) in check, so everyone keeps using it and cycle continues…

I still can’t get over how Charizard is a legitimate threat these days… It only took it fifteen years to get there, lol…

I don’t like wash rotom.

I prefer regular grass or fire
