SRK Competitive Pokemon Battling Thread: Logoghoul and White Shadow Win! Bye Gen 6!

better than running poison jab on gliscor

#shotsfired

Dual Screens Serperior has been successful so far!

It’s almost too late to release Contrary for this guy. Since Dragon Pulse was a Gen 5 Tutor Move it’s best special attacks are Leaf Storm and Hidden Power of your choosing. Let’s hope for some good Gen 6 Move Tutors in the next game.

(I’ve only faced one Mega Manectric thus far and it got blown up by starter Trace Gardevoir because someone was over-eager for Volt Switch and got Moonblasted for 85% of their life after they went nowhere fast while giving me +1 Special Attack.)

My new “Does (Strong Jaw) Tyrantum Suck?” team, however, seems like it needs to lose Trace Gardevoir, unfortunately. I really need a Dark resist, but I don’t really want to replace Hippowdon with T-tar given that would make half of the team weak to Fighting, Ground and Steel. Currently, I’m leaning towards replacing her with Whimsicott of all things, though I suppose (Mega) Mawile might be a better choice. (A Ghost resist or immune would nice too, but as much as I want to play around with Choice Band Stoutland, it doesn’t resist DAWKNESS.)

Then again, the past couple of days/this weekend I’ve seen more creativity than I have in the past couple of weeks. I literally haven’t fought Genesect all weekend and I got blown up by random things, including a Magma Storm Heatran and a Mirror Coat Avalugg (though I won against the latter). I haven’t even seen that many Rotom-Washes despite all the rain teams I’ve been fighting.

It’s weird:

I still find it weird seeing teams without any flying types, much less Levitate–which is less reliable with Mold Breaker Excadrill–or even Ground resists, but, hey, if it works… I somewhat agree with Mood4food77 about Gardevoir here, but it’s difficult to tell considering she didn’t get to do anything. I just know that she and Hippowdon (or T-tar) don’t exactly get along, even with Rest.

smogon is finally suspecting lucarionite, genesect, and deoxys-S all at once

about god damn time

…And Thus, The Saga Continues…

well, lucarionite is mega lucario, so they ban the item and not lucario as a whole, the same thing as gengarite and kangaskahnite

it’s literally to the point with mega lucario where you just pull your pants down and let him fuck you as he just rapes everything, i mean…you learned singlehandedly

To Hell with Smogon I JUST started using a Special based Lucario!

special lucario > physical lucario

That’s funny, Mr. “I think these Pokémon are stupid, but I have no problems filling my team with them”… Yeah you got your win, and earned Bious a Benjamin, and I used an obviously flawed strategy that led to my downfall.

I can most certainly run a brain-dead team too… I guess I could endure 40-50+ turns of boredom if I really had to, even though it won’t prove shit.

My original point is that Mega Luke is frail as fuck and isn’t a problem… He’s not auto-Swords Dancing or PerishTrapping you free*(and those guys really aren’t that bad if you have a brain)*, but hey, its their shitty metagame… If they really need Tyranitar to set those pebbles down that badly…

EDIT:* Trolled again… I really am gonna have to stop taking the cheese…*

i play to win, so yea, i decided to use it to see how good it was and it wrecked your shit, your fault for not running a single check to it

it sets up on pretty much any defensive poke and can survive some weak SE hits

it’s got 3 priority moves all at base 80 power (absurd), pretty much 2HKOs everything in sight

we have only 1 surefire counter to it, 252 HP / 252 Def Bold tentacruel and even then, its 2HKO’d by +2 stuff

it’s too versatile to try and stop and by the time you figure out if it’s physical or special, you lost a pokemon

he’s the most broken thing out there at the moment and deserves to go

Punch.

It.

In.

The.

Face.

Then watch it wilt and blow away in the wind. Can’t set up if you’re dead.

I play to see what happens.
Discovering shit is fun for me. Rolling over a bunch of cookie-cutter teams piloted by not very smart people with my own cookie-cutter shit is boring and repetitive and no one learns anything new.

punch it in the face on something that has base 112 speed, there’s only a handful of pokemon who outspeed that

oh, he’s got awesome priority as well

you can literally use that argument for anything but it still doesn’t mean the pokemon isn’t god damn broken

Special Lucario is much harder to wall. It can cause some big problems late game, but luckily I haven’t encountered any that use Vacuum wave, so I usually try and save my speedster to finish him off.

Last post on this then I’m out:

Does it have 112 base speed when it’s first sent out? Because last time I checked, Pokémon needed a turn to become Mega, meaning no Focus Sash/Leftovers/Life Orb… So regular Luke isn’t all that threatening on its first turn out. 92 Speed isn’t all that quick, after all.

Team preview is still a thing, meaning it shouldn’t be too difficult to discern if Luke is their Mega or not based on team composition.

Also based on their team loadout and your own, you should be able estimate when the foe is most likely to switch it and plan accordingly.

Pranksters are pretty popular, and the most popular Pranksters give two shits about Luke’s priority moves.

Mega Zard X/Y give 0 fucks and will kill that fool where it stands. Better have your pebbles out.

My sincere apologies to the rest of the thread… but Smogon’s unmitigated scrubbery… Someone has to fight…

(Uh, non-Mega Lucario can still be pretty damn threatening. It’s just not as brain-dead as Mega Lucario can be, especially with all the priority flying around.)

In order to further divert this since Mood4food77 will probably respond: po pimpus, would you honestly not ban anything? Or do you simply thing that too much is banned?

I’m actually not all that clear on your reasons for this particular brand of argument even though you’ve obviously brought it back before. I still haven’t looked through all of this thread or the other one considering the backlog is…annoying to get through on this dinosaur of a computer.

lucario has priority, it’s fucking easy as all hell to mega volve him, so speed isn’t an issue here, and if you’re slower, he megavolves and either one shots you or sets up, not that hard

team preview only lets you know he’s running mega luc, you don’t know if it’s physical or special

it has 90 base speed regular and since most of the time it runs a positive nature, it outspeeds neutral base 103s (i don’t think there is a base 103 speed pokemon but that’s the benchmark), which is a good amount of defensive pokemon, those of which you’re switching into

sableye gives two shits about mega lucario? while the physically bulky set does beat a physical mega lucario, he’s screwed on other sets

252 Atk Adaptability Mega Lucario Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Sableye: 120-142 (39.4 - 46.7%) – guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Adaptability Mega Lucario Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Sableye: 238-282 (78.2 - 92.7%) – 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

yup, that’s really not giving a shit about priority (especially since mega lucario will go first)

also

252 SpA Adaptability Mega Lucario Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sableye: 174-206 (57.2 - 67.7%) – guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Adaptability Mega Lucario Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sableye: 346-408 (113.8 - 134.2%) – guaranteed OHKO

so much for that guy

the best we can do is physically bulky tentacruel who even gets 2HKO’d by stuff

252 Atk Adaptability Mega Lucario Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tentacruel: 134-158 (36.8 - 43.4%) – guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
+2 252 Atk Adaptability Mega Lucario Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tentacruel: 266-314 (73 - 86.2%) – guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

+2 252 Atk Adaptability Mega Lucario Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tentacruel: 90-106 (24.7 - 29.1%) – 72.1% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

this is the best we got to take care of mega lucario?

#FuckSmogon

My actual stance is to not ban anything because people will flock to the next most powerful thing available, so all that preening about “promoting diversity” is bunk.

I’ve wasted a lot bandwidth going back and forth about it, but when you start banning entire moves and strategies, you may have fallen off that slippery slope you were already precariously balancing on back in Gen IV. Why is Blaze Blaziken banned, but Deoxys playable for an example of the kind of hypocrisy/logical fallacy I’m talking about
*
My biggest annoyances are the antiquated Clauses, Evasion in particular
(just do a search- there are counters, just no one wants to/can’t be bothered run them), all the bellyaching over Mega Flim-flam and Mega Shabazz(when Megas are obviously supposed to be strong)* and Mr. Mood being his usual picnic-ruining raincloud self whenever someone posts a team or moveset idea, as if he’s the only person in this thread capable of using a Damage Calculator or creating a moveset or just copy/pasting one from German Koffing Society.

So, basically, I believe Smogon is stupid and for all intents and purposes should be ignored outside of research/game mechanics, and metagames should be allowed to develop organically.

What’s the next strongest Mega after Lucario? Scizor? Charizard? I’ll bet anything that one of those is going to get put on the chopping block next. Then, someone’s going to find some “broken” strategy for the lesser used ones, and those are going to get banned too.

evasion is banned cause it’s really fucking stupid, no one likes it (except you apparently) and causes a whole mishmosh of shit, it’s really fucking overcentralizing

for the record, blaziken is way more broken than deoxys with speed boost, you literally needed talonflame and azumarill to stop all of its sets, at least with deoxys you can have prankster taunt (or just taunt in general) and do some serious damage to it
