Sorry I wasn’t trying to make it an derisive attack against you, and the example wasn’t based on calling anyone a 12 yo scrub, but that the state of the metagame is brought on by the mentality of the players and their exposure . Stealth Rock is deemed acceptable and creates a metagame where the entire basis of usage revolves around one move. I find that abhorrent, Spikes was never this centralizing and took far more skill to pull off properly, hence why no one complained about it.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Talonflame’s usage already #.1 or close the last time I checked? Evidently, while SR serves as a means to cripple it, it doesn’t necessarily correlate with its usage. I don’t think players are deciding on whether or not to use Talonflame solely on the existence of SR, but become concerned about it when they have already decided on using Talonflame (which apparently is quite often). Same goes for nearly any Pokemon weak to it. Volcarona I admit, is probably an exception due to it being vulnerable to all hazards on the field. Extra planning is required to put it in play and team has to be built with some support for it. Other than that, most teams have a Defogger/Rapid Spinner to avoid the field hazard threats as a function of basic team design.
Once again, sorry if my approach seemed incendiary. I guess I take my posts here too casually sometimes, and since it’s impossible to gauge tone over the interwebs it can be exacerbated to be seen as a personal attack.
talonflame’s usage has dropped quite a bit since mega kanga has been banned, i don’t see it that often and my rank is at 2000, he’s still common but not everywhere like he was before
if this was gen IV, then yea, i’d probably agree that SR was overcentralizing as fuck, you literally couldn’t make a team without it, but now, they’ve done a lot to nerf it and the defog buff really helps in dealing with SR, it is a lot harder to keep SR (and other hazards) on the field when the only thing that can stop defog is a prior taunt (whether it be the turn before or thanks to prankster, thankfully nothing with prankster learns defog and neither does talonflame)
thanks to defog, you can run latias (who is as versatile as they come) instead of forretress (who just…spins)
is it overcentralizing? probably since a lot of the time, you need something to remove hazards, but that’s only 1 move you need at most, it’s definitely not as bad as evasion/moody/OHKO things where you would need multiple things to deal with it, a lot of times an entire pokemon
If you feel that entry hazards or having a way to remove them is overcentralizing, it’s due to the fact that switching out needs to be kept in check, otherwise it would just be too strong.
Oh, yeah. Switching out definitely needs to be “balanced”, especially with more and more stuff being capable of only needing one turn of set-up to rip through entire team, composition be damned. Stealth Rock still needs to be less stupid though and those things aren’t mutually exclusive, so…
Speaking of Talonflame, I’m still kinda weirded out that the “basic birds” of the past three generations have been so damn viable. Fearow, Farfetch’d and other evolved Normal/Flying types are crying somewhere I’m sure; well, except for Doduo–that thing always should have been Normal/Ground anyway. Between it and Dunsparce, I keep thinking that Diggersby–ugly though it is–is the third Normal/Ground pokemon instead of the first. Shrug.
Which is why I’m not expecting that; I’m not Smogon. [/cheap shot]
Life is hella unfortunate and unfair. It doesn’t mean that I still don’t get annoyed by a lot of that misfortune and unfairness being caused by basic stupidity, but whatever. It’s just a game that I’m not even playing, partly because I do “theorycraft” everything, not just Pokemon, so it’s not like this actually affects me.
Occam’s Razor, first world problems and all that.
At least we’re not talking past each other, we just don’t agree for the most part, which is fine. We should probably stop talking about Stealth Rock lest Saitsu’s despair deepen though.
Absolutely, tell my why this Skarmory was running air slash instead of whirlwind. I’d have phazed the shit out of that little ass nigga Kevin Hart Voice
So Marowak is an Aegislash counter apparently, he OHKOs with that Boner-rang while Aegislash is in Shield Form, and Marowak is 3HKOd Sacred Sword by Aegislash even after he boosts. If Aegislash doesn’t boost, Sacred Sword is a 5HKO.
He’s so fail against things like Trevanant and Rotom W though. I want to use him though.
Amoonguss has foul play now? What did he have to be better for? Because of foul play, I’m running low attack IVs on all special attackers and non-attackers.
honestly, it’s not that big of a deal to run low IVs on those pokemon, most special attackers have low attack so it’s not going to do much anyways, i think foul play barely 2HKOs alakazam, so yea
4 Atk Klefki Foul Play vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 102-122 (40.4 - 48.4%) – guaranteed 3HKO (0 IV)
4 Atk Klefki Foul Play vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 134-158 (53.1 - 62.6%) – guaranteed 2HKO (31 IV)
although, it might be worth it on alakazam cause with 0 IVs in attack, it’s a 3HKO instead of a 2HKO, but most other characters don’t care about it
4 Atk Klefki Foul Play vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Reuniclus: 76-90 (17.9 - 21.2%) – possible 5HKO (this has 31 IVs in attack)
4 Atk Klefki Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Lucario: 62-74 (22 - 26.3%) – 11.9% chance to 4HKO (and hell, this is even on jolly 252 mega lucario)
4 Atk Klefki Foul Play vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Greninja: 41-48 (14.3 - 16.7%) – possible 6HKO
so i think outside of alakazam, it really doesn’t matter
