Any one in here done or know someone that has paid services for blue printing their motor? I’ve been reading this book on performance tuning, and I guess the foundation for a solid tune starts from the ground up which is breaking down the entire motor and building it back to manufacturer spec(going beyond factory), at least with 2 stroke motors. I don’t have the tools to do it, so I’m probably going to source out the work to a reputable builder. I asked my local motorcycle forum about it, but I’ve gotten nothing in response. I read that the top race teams for bikes generally all have their motors close to stock as possible, but with tolerances that are tighter than a virgin’s butthole.
what are you blue printing? A motor engine? Is it new, old?
say you want to blue print a LS, eagle, coyote, k24, or anything really in the last 2 decades; it wont’ net you gains worth the cost.
Now, if we talking about engines from the 60-70’s then yeah, it’s worth it. You can easily increase horsepower by as much as 50+ depending on your platform.
Most likely a 2 stroke motor from the early to mid 90’s, and the reasons being, for reliability and an over all solid platform. Since 2 strokes mix gas and oil, I’m sure it will need to be serviced, and since it’s going to be my project bike, I’m not worried about the cost and time to do so. Want this puppy to be as good as it once was from the show room floor.
At work, I take competitors’ parts apart and measure them and draw them up (so we can replace them). Wouldn’t that count as “blue printing”?
I posted months ago about my 1985 Corvette 383 six speed build. Well a few bumps in the road since I last posted about it. I got an oil leak on a BRAND NEW rear seal. I couldn’t believe it. I also had a grinding clutch…so it all had to come back out. I fucked up the input bearing that was in the back of the crank when I installed the engine last year. I got the engine to mate up to the transmission until the last 1/4 inch and it wouldn’t budge. So like a dumbass, I used the bellhousing bolts to “help” everything come together. Big mistake, destroyed the input bearing…I’m lucky the bearings stayed in their little retainer otherwise that would’ve been the tip of my input shaft completely destroyed.
So autozone bearing puller tool and slide hammer rental and a replacement input bearing from Summit and I fixed my fuck up. Also pried the new leaking seal out of the back of the motor and installed another new one. Ran the motor and watched underneath for leaks and thank the gods, no leaks now. Got a replacement clutch from SPEC and checked all the clearances before bolting the transmission back in. Put the ZF six speed transmission back in and even on a trans jack it was brutal. Stout, bullet proof transmission from back in the C4 Corvette day, but heavy! I had to use a board to keep the clutch pedal to the floor so I could push the transmission all the way in with my arms pushing on the sides of the case and trans jack. It took an hour to get it in but I was on my back wrestling 150 lbs of trans to have the input tip precisely find the input bearing hole without damaging it.
Got everything back together and the Stage 3+ clutch from SPEC is noisy engaged. It chatters up a storm and makes all kinds of noises until broken in. But it doesn’t grind now! Once I was confident everything was in order and working properly, I fiberglassed the hole I cut in the trans tunnel to fit the ZF in. In 100 degree weather in a garage, that was all the easy stuff! I’m now doing perhaps the most frustrating part: the tuning. Ordered tuning equipment from Moates.com and did my first datalog tonight of the car idling. Talk about a whole new world. Working with some old tuning pros to get everything where it should be. One day I’ll get to drive this thing.
Waxed my car
Pretty much ended up getting my car for free.
Bought it off someone on Craig’s list for 6 grand.
Took out a loan, and made two payments on it.
I let my friend borrow it on my birthday so he could buy me a gift.
on his way someone ran a stop sign and smashed the door in. The insurance came in and paid the whole thing off. My car was completely fine and just needed to have it’s passenger door replaced. Just thought it was pretty funny how that happened on my birthday. A car, wii u, and pikmin 3? probably the best birthday I’ve had.
Pretty close to getting a new Forester.
Anyone have any experience with them?
just got my clutch in my 05 Scion XB. Literally took them two weeks to repair. The dude said that its rare to see sticks come in there (Toyota service). In all honesty the dude who was giving me the run around about my car (said it would be done in a few days after I dropped it off) is really full of it. Im almost certain they didn’t have anyone who really knew how to replace a clutch.
Anyways I got to try flappy paddles for the first time. It was only in the new Golf tsi, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. I can see why Ferrari and a lot of super cars have the flappy paddle now. Still wouldn’t get anything like a Golf with paddle shifters though, it seems pointless in such a small car to have that.
my new obsession (granted I’m not to fond of the Gts interior though):
Well, this may be the one time that an additional warranty pays off.
Bought my 06 Charger R/T back at the end of 2006. When Chrysler was trying to bump sales they offered that lifetime powertrain warranty. It was only $900 for zero deductible. Covered all internal (non wearable) components of the powertrain and all seals and gaskets. On Monday, brought the car in as I had minor oil leak around an intake manifold bolt and transmission was slipping during a cold start. The dealership service advisor said that they had to remove the bolt for further inspection, but it broke off, so that would be taken care of and the transmission just needed some clean fluid. He made mention that the tech got intrigued because he heard some lifter noise and wanted to look a bit deeper into it. Since the car has a warranty, I didn’t mind.
Then came Wednesday . . . .
Apparently there is a defect with piston #6 which created pressure issues. The entire engine will need to be rebuilt. For time, they would be purchasing a long block 5.7 (MSRP is around 7K). Labor to put it in will be around 3K. When I spoke to Chrysler, if the repair exceeds the value of the car, they will just cut me a check. That value is based off of the NADA amount if the vehicle was purchased with a clean title at retail. That amount is $9,100 (that is with the 211K miles on the odometer). I should know what the deal is by tomorrow. Either I will have an old car with a new engine or a new car. We’ll see by the end of the week,
New Brabus tuned AMG GLE 63 S.
Well I got my Forester.
It’s my very first new car and it’s a PS4 compared to the NES I had (2002 Sentra).
Just as an update guys. Chrysler approved the repair for my vehicle. They are going to replace my current engine with a new 5.7 with all new associated parts. So at 212K they are still thought it was cheaper to repair. Works for me LOL. The great thing is that the warranty is still in effect. Doubt I will drive it this long, but it’s good to see that in the system, I have the option to do so LOL

So I went to the LA car show today. Ill post pictures once I upload them later
Hyundai and Honda where the only ones that had a prototype fuel cell engine on display. They where rather interesting, but obvious a long way before you could use them for performance applications, as they are extremely wide and heavy.
Subaru had a very cool Impreza concept. It is perhaps the most Japanese looking car since the new NSX. Shame it will probably be underpowered like anything Japanese, and won’t look like anything it did on display.
Volkswagon had nothing of value on display
Scion and Toyota had nothing of interest neither nor anything new, more everyday cars with no actual anything. Toyota or scion had this weird concept on display. It wanted to be american in design, but wanted to be small, so it had strange dimensions. Terrible garbage per usual from scion. And toyota trucks still trying to catch up to American build quality, and capabilities. Still weaker engines, with less towing capacity, and carrying capacity.
Mazda had their new 2.5L turbocharged engine. This thing makes 250 hp on 93 octane, but a whopping 350 lb-tq with a small turbo. Which is extremely impressive, not only that, the new engine is 250lbs lighter than the older engine. Mazda sure is making strides in engine technology, as this was a small engine compared to my sisters k24z on her SI or other 4 cylinders. My question is if it will have the same capabilities as the old 2.5L turbo engine. The old one was heavier, but it was more robust. You could easily boost them way past stock with no problems to the internals, and run methanol/ethanol mixtures all the time with the increased boost capabilities. Because this engine uses probably an all aluminum block, the boost capabilities of these engines will be significantly less, and makes me wonder if the 250 lbs are worth it. I really want to see what the Mazda speed 3 will look like, and hopefully they put the AWD system they had in the Mazdaspeed6 back in 2010 with more rear wheel bias. I like the Mazda 3 a lot.
And Mazda still has the best red on the market, and one of the most intriguing and attractive sedans on the market.
Chevrolet, really had nothing, but more of the same upbadging they are notorious for. A new trim called redline, which is absolute nonsense. All it is, is factory tint, wheels, stereo, and other nonsense meant to increase sales. Their new silverado’s are not impressive, as I’m still waiting until 2017-18 when they release their all aluminum frame trucks. Their Malibu looks like a poor man’s A7.
The corvette z06 was on display, and my god what a beautiful machine. This thing is what all cars needs to aspire to be, or course it didn’t steal the show.
GMC was imo the king of SUV and trucks. they have that classic styling, and near Cadillac quality in their interior build. Most attractive crossovers, small suv, and classic Yukon with their iridium grey coloring. I really want to get an acadia for my mom
Volvo had their pulstar s60 there as well. Unfortunately it was a wagon model, and they only come in lame ass automatic, but a very pretty car none the less. Very classy and ergonomic interiors. I would like one over the ATS-V, but the fact that it’s automatic only, and limited to only around 5 thousand means I’ll never bother owning one.
Cadillac was impressive per usual. They didn’t have their new escalade on the show room floor with the LT4 engine, and upgraded everything unfortunatly. But they had the CTS-V there. Very pretty car, and something i’d like to own one day, even if it’s a lame as shit automatic. Interior is stunning, and the seating ergonomics of this car are perfect. More space than any of the european cars (only ones that had that much space are the really fat euro cars). The ATS-V, they had two (sedan, coupe), where there as well. Significantly smaller, but almost as classy. I did notice the clutch wasn’t heavy at all (not a good thing) and the transmission didn’t have that really satisfying clunk honda’s kinda have, and no where near the glorious Tremec’s clunk.
Lexus was nothing but crossover and small SUV’s. It seems japan is barely going to start capitalizing on the fastest growing market share for cars. Nothing of value
BMW trash
Mercedes had their usual lineup, but didn’t let you in their more expensive cars. Really pretty interiors. It’s a shame that their C63 AMG is so round, I really liked the last generation as it was more bold and aggressive in it’s styling. They had a glorious sedan with that insane 7 liter v12 twin turbo in that shit. Great machine. and the Mercedes GT was there to eh.
I don’t fit in the jaguar F type, i’m too tall, and jaguar was the same from last year.
Audi had nothing of value
Nissan is the gayest of the japanese and I didn’t even bother looking at what crap they had. Probably had the same bullshit juke R crap they had 2 years ago
Kia was more normal cars. Points to them for Hyundai making their Sonata look like Optima’s. Those cars are pretty damn sweet, and my personal favorite regular commuter car for around 30k
Chrysler in general was interesting becuase of two models. They had a Chrysler 200 concept in dispaly with more aggressive body, and aggresive suspension and power. Then they had a GLH dart concept on display as well. if that’s what the SRT4 looks like, then I know what my next purchase for a daily car will be. then there was the dodge viper ACR. This is the greatest machine ever made. It’s design, it’s purpose, it’s existence is for one singular purpose, and that’s to dominate where it goes. This is the apex of what a car is and could be, and I wish GM would step up an make a Corvette variant with the same purpose. They had more hellcat’s on display, but those are common and really aren’t my thing nor are they impressive.
Alfa romeo had that new gulia thing. it was alright, the 4C accros was better in every way. I made fun of it because the car has a shamrock badge on it. Must be something to do with the luck of the irish thing. Will you get a decent car, or the usual pos car quality you can expect from italian manufacturing. Only an arm an a leg to find out!!!
Ford had the GT on display. Man that thing looks great. They also had the new 350GTR on display. The weird thing about it was that nobody was looking at it. It’s a great machine, and a big fuck you to european design. If this thing can be reliable, then i don’t see why anybody would put up with the crap ferrari shits out yearly. The RS was on display, but you couldn’t get in it. that was sad and disappointing. I really wanted to sit in it, and see how the transmission and clutch felt on that thing.
Aston Martin was there. But per usual, they had 10ft between you and the cars, which is lame, and makes me car nothing for them. The vanquish is pretty though, and I look forward to the day I can buy a used one and drop a LS/LT/Eagle motor with a tremec.
Porsche was there, and they had the new Cayman GT4 on display. A manual on the Porsche was just so magical. It was fucking glorious, and makes me debate whether I want a Cayman GT4, or a Corvette z06 if I could afford a 80k car and that was my budget. I know the Porsche is slower in every way, and Porsche killed it on purpose with that stupid long as fuck 2nd gear (but turbo can fix a lot of things). The sad thing is that nobody was looking at it. Everybody was too busy jerking off to the ones with PDK and convertibles. It’s a shame that nobody cares for manuals anymore. There was a gorgues blue 911 GTS with the manual. I want one, but why get one when it costs as much as a z06 LV3, or ACR. I just can’t justify the expense.
A P1 was on display, but i didn’t care. They did have a SLR on display. That thing is a pretty sweet looking car, and it’s nice to see mercedes is continuing the use of gills in their AMG line. I saw a butchered Ford GT from the 2000’s with some lame as shit body kit. And the aftermarket section was more of the same, slammed car with massive wheels and a wide body kit. no actual performance, which makes me want to go to SEMA next year to get the low down on technologies for cars. Since I really want to buy and rustomod a 1970’s firebird with all things modern.
You couldn’t fit in the F-Type? How tall are you? I know Jeremy Clarkson drove it several times (especially in the road trip special) and he said he was 6’4".
I am a big fan of the Merc GTs. That is a beautiful car to me. I feel you on the C63 as well. In regards to BMW I am still a big fan of their cars, but their newest models just don’t do it for me (save for the M5).
Also gotta disagree with Ferrari being crap. They make amazing machines may not have won every race, but their cars are works of art. But I respect your opinion even if I disagree.
Also with the Firebird restoration are planning on doing something similar to what Singer does with Porsches?
Sounds like the car show was pretty cool.
Also decided to start a car focused tumblr. Its only like a day old, but I will be posting a lot of stuff on there.

This was the most interesting thing at the show tbh. In terms of engineering. I believe fuel cells are the future, not electric.

the camera couldn’t contain the hype. Best Aston hands down.
I’m 6 ft 3. I’m not fat that I can’t fit based on how I sit. It’s not very spacious compared to the viper or vette, which i’ve been in both.
Thing with ferrari is that they seem more like status symbols than anything. The fact that you need to take it to a dealer to get serviced every 10k miles seems like bad engineering to me.
The firebird will be like a rusto mod. Classic body, but I won’t be keeping many things that where from the factory. it will have a modern power plant from one of the detroit 3 (depending on the characteristics and applications I want to build the car for), modern drivetrain, and I’m interesting in doing what one of the corvette zr1 engineers did with one of his camaros called the red devil
this is what I aspire to make one day. And if possible, i’d be open to the possibility of applying my engineering know how into making these cars for the masses.
Now with a continuous for dismissal and getting a state of jurisdiction on my record this morning , I have to keep my ass from the “fundraisers” of the law. Looks like next year I’ll be doing mostly track days and from now until next fall, I’ll be pissing people off and going exactly the speed limit… Since I had time this morning to do other stuff besides court, I bought some Stabil, filled the tank of my bike up, and cleaned and lubed my chain and cleaned up the back wheel. Not sure if this works on all types of wheels(aka rims for those ignorant), but WD-40 is great for motorcycle wheels, it cleans all the crap and flung chain lube, and shines it up. Also great for hard parts like engine case covers.
