is it the aesthetics of the car that gets you guys? Never been a fan of the GT-R personally.
If you like the 4th gens you may dig the 3rd gen F bodies. You can find running models to be sold for $500âŚyou just bring a trailer or show up and drive it away. Easy to work on and parts are as cheap as they come due to sharing across models and being GM parts. With TPI motors that can be tweaked to make great low to mid range torque for little cash, you can have a dirt cheap thrill or you can pick up a $500 3rd gen, splurge on a LS3/T56 six speed combo for UNDER 5 grand if you look hard enough, and youâll have a car that is as quick the new Camaro, a lot lighter and you can say you did it yourself. But if you would rather buy a car to just turn the key and go, disregard.
The real awesome thing I wish I had thought of doing as well as being patient was compiling parts for a 427 motor. LS7 short blocks (block with internals but no heads) can be had for $3,000 if you sit tight and look in the right places. That nets you a block with titanium rods for high revving and 7.0 liters of displacement after a full revolution. Pick up a set of LS7 heads for $1300, or do the insurance route and spring for âfixedâ heads that run closer to $3,000 due to valve worries. You can find an LS7 intake WITH injectors and throttle body for $400. Minus your own time to do a tear down for inspection, new gaskets, sensors or whatever else, thatâs roughly $5,000 for basically a complete LS7 or closer to $8,000 for upgraded heads which will actually move more air. A new crate motor LS7 is $14,500+ ready to drop in for a reference.
Youâd probably need new tires every month though⌠I wish I had done the LS3/T56 transmission install. All aluminum block that makes 430hp+ before headers and some other easy tweaks for even more power. Going to try and drop the 383 in tonightâŚweâll see how this works. Pics to follow.
Its a good looking car but Iâm looking forward to the 2016 version
rear is going to take some getting used to
looks infinetely better than it does now.
Its designed around a fucking gundam. Its a robot car plus the back is so sexy. And it has some nice power to boot, its a nice car although working downtown toronto i see them every now and then but no one really turns an eye compared to say a lambo or a ferari hell no one turns an eye if an r8 passes by which i dont get because the r8 is so pretty.
Eww i just noticed they linked the new GTR it looks like the âevolutionâ of the ugly looking jeep cherokee what a joke. >:(
Pretty shitty photoshops.
I hope they donât get rid of the circle tail lights. Front lights look like Z lights in that first concept picture.
Agreed, itâs one of the unique features of the GT
you need to post more pics of you car
r8 is so pretty. Choosing that or a 997 Porsche, Iâd have a really hard time choosing.
I just got Yokohamaâs YK580 installed. While driving, my body be like:
Thatâs their new all season performance oriented tire no? Neat, I have a pair of older Yokohamas, really good tire, and durable at that. Also, did you install your breaks?
Brakes will be installed Monday morning when I will take the car to the dealership.
Has any of you you spun out a front wheeled drive car before? Losing control while controlling the seemingly loss of control is fun. The first time happened during heavy braking into a corner after diving into it at high speed. This happened on a empty road in a 35mph zone. I went into the corner at around 45mph, but that was too much. That corner was more of a 40mph turn. The sudden shift of weight to the front end during heavy deceleration made the rear end step out which led to the spin. My final position after the spin was being parallel to the opposite laneâs sidewalk.
I spun out what was it a month or two months ago? I was going south on the freeway, and I was just changing lanes. I look in my blind spot for a split second then proceed to slowly change lanes then suddenly the car that was in front of that lane, of which car was a car and a half length away, decided to slam on its brakes. Suddenly, from my point of view, this car has slowed down and is moving backwards at a rapid pace from the trafficâs point of view. Sooo this car is now where I was merging and so I jerk the steering wheel the other way and my carâs tires lose their grip then car is sideways one way, then spins sideways the other way. This happens several times before I can regain control of the car.
Oh, man, thatâs a really dangerous situation. You spun multiple times?
Yeah crazy huh?
I didnât even yank the steering wheel all that much if at all. Sticky tires are pretty important.
Shit, how fast were you going? I got a new set of tyres, brilliant in a straight line, but hit a bump whilst turning a corner it feels like the rear slips out.
70 mph, my typical freeway driving speed.
Well I got my 383 in and after fighting it, any desires to build a bigger motor are gone for now. A lot of back and forth: push the engine in position, lower it, throw yourself on the roller seat and slide under the car to check everything out. Then roll off from under the car and do some more adjustmentsâŚrepeat 20+ times while drenched in sweat and I am beat. I donât know why I thought this would be a good idea in Florida heat and by myself. Motor mounts were biggest pain in the ass. As of now, if I never drop another engine in a Vette, I wonât be too heartbroken. Of course I say that now!..who knows in five or more years but this one is built with forged steel rotating assembly to take anything, gapped rings for dabbling in nitrous, if I want, and backed by a clutch, six speed, and heavy duty rear gear that will withstand those nitrous hits or FI options. Wouldnât mind a solid roller 427 stroker for the ultimate street toy years from now.

As far as âmajorâ projects, itâs all downhill from here and just a shit ton of minor odd jobs to tie everything up. But the key players are there in the engine, trans, and rear end. The car looks like garbage but everything under the fiberglass is brand new, paint job will be last item.
