SRK Car Thread (Show it off or ask questions)

Why? People have more than civic’s.

I’m thinking about snatching this up:

200+K miles doe.

He wants the Prelude but probably not cause he doesnt have cash to add. I’d rather just buy this cash.

200k and the dent? At least the interior looks like it has had more TLC.

Thats why I’m about to throw about a lowball cash offer. He originally wanted my Prelude, but it is faster, with half the miles, and I even replaced the healthy engine with another Japanese engine with even lower miles, with a fresh racing clutch, flywheel, belts, ect, while, that Lexus probably needs everything.

Despite the miles and dent though, it having a stick is rare, and means that when I decide to throw a GTE swap in it, I dont also have to convert it to stick. If it wasnt a stick, I wouldnt even pay a grand for it. The doors no big issue, just grab one from a junkyard, or get a PDR guy.

Just noticed the position of the handbrake, is that normal or has this car been modded too?

Nothing done to that car. What makes you think so?

I’ve never come across a car with the handbrake positioned against the passenger seat.

RHD Altezza places it away from the driver as well:

Actually the latest bodystyle Prelude has the hand brake on the right side, no matter which drive it is:

The previous bodystyle Prelude has it positioned in the center, and then in a minor facelift, next to the driver:

Most of the cars I seen have been centred (UK) but on the odd occasion I have seen ones with the hand break on the drivers side.

I really am making a new post to ask for some feedback for a question regarding buying a car. My question is, when is it a good time to buy a new car? I am asking because I have the money to buy a car(rather a family member), but they’re hesitant to buy a car soon. I decided to ask SRK for some advice.

So what should I do?

EDIT: Quoted from a post I created.

Depends on the car, how its being bought (cash/finance), if its new/used, and what’s it for.

Make sure the car you’re buying has ADJUSTABLE camber arms.

info bro. What kind of car does he want, hatchback, compact, normal sized??? Do you want info on what the best car model is in it’s respective class. What is the function of the car? Is he willing to trade mpg for a fun car to drive, or does he want to buy a high mpg effecient car and lose the fun factor? Does he want something kind of between? What’s his price range? What model and make is he looking at, some makes and models cannot be negotiated with and are mostly sold at a average price that goes only up as you add more dumb options…

But in general, if the car is being bought new.

Look online first, and always look for coupons, rebates, and other factory coupons on the dealer website. Make sure you take copies, pictures with you. Ask them what deals they have regarding the car they may be interested in. If they don’t mention all the rebates and coupons, you can call them out on that shit and have more room for negotiating.

If you are putting a down payment, don’t tell them how much you have up front. You can use a bigger down payment to lower the overall price of a car either through how much they are willing to sell it to you, or intrest rates. Sometimes, this doesn’t work, some dealers make all of their money of financing and won’t budge when you are wiling to put a bigger down payment.

Know what you want, and don’t give in. Do you really want leather seats, or other useless shit like that? It’s easy to rack up an extra 5-8k $ per car because they fool you into getting the extra stuff because it seems like it’s only 5k+$ more. But some people want a “comfortable” car over a car that’s “fun and stiff”.

Manuals are cheaper, and boring colors are cheaper too.

At the end of the month, dealers want to get rid of their stock to meet quotas so that the factory can give them more money. It’s easier to negotiate then because they dealership makes up a lot of lost revenue throug factory bonuses. Although, not all dealers work like this though…

don’t all cars come with adjustable Camber arms?? Without them, you can’t really do an alignment on them…

and those old kia, fiat, hyndai esque cars aren’t cars btw.

I think all Toyotas do. If you’re looking at this generation’s Honda’s/Acura’s, you might want to crawl under the car and take a good look at that/those arm(s).

I bought my current car off of Craigslist. That worked out well for me.

those ars toyotas though. lol those still come with 4 speedz. hahabab

but honda is doing that now??? damn it explains why you said what you said in the other thread…damn

and yeah craiglist is terrible, great place to buy a car that will turn you into an expert…lol

Yeah, Honda and BMW have their fair share of shenanigans except the latter is bought by rich people who don’t really care.

Craigslist is up to chance really. I bought the car from your stereotypical “Azn” dude complete with the MGS codec ringtone, spiky hair, flashy light brown contacts, and pretty well tuned Civic. He sold me his gf car which was plain jane and he took care of the car for her.

The quality of the vendor is something you cannot control, however, on the Purchaser’s side, one ought to make good friends with a mechanic worth his salt, take the car and get a second opinion as well as your own.

I won’t be buying a car from this generation. Hopefully the times will change in a few years.

PS: O and by the way, from my experience most places only adjust the toe when asked to do alignments. Always check what the settings are before and after. Common bullshit includes “O I forgot and I conveniently deleted the data off the alignment machine”

FYI, A typical oil change for a BMW at a BMW dealership is usually $100+. I can take my Civic Si to a Honda dealership and have the same type of service for around $40 or less(specials/diy). As far as suspension goes, all modern cars are able to be aligned, I don’t know where you got this “adjustable camber” malarkey unless you are talking about after market coil overs or something. Jeeps from my experience have the worst time on the alignment rack, as soon as you get toe corrected, your camber and caster goes out of spec, and then as soon as you get camber or caster close to spec, toe gets all f’ed up again. There’s a saying “Nothing drives like a Jeep”

So last weekend my uncle let me drive his Porsche Boxter S. I must say that I had a ball driving that thing. I can see how people enjoy them, granted they are expensive as hell, they are fun. Also In about three years, I will probably buy grown up car. More so a semi sports car (a gift to myself). As time goes on, I will narrow the search down. I’d love to have a S2K, but since I do have a little one, I have to be mindful that a two seater won’t be the best option. But yeah, this was a thought I had when I was the Toyota dealership getting my car it’s 5k maintenance, I took the Scion FR-S for a spin and actually enjoyed it. It felt like the 200hp under the hood was well distributed.

@Dj Hyper Kid I’ve had a couple Subarus in the past and the gaskets failed well before 80k. Supposedly, Porsche did something right with their motor as the gaskets aren’t nearly going to shit as quickly as Subarus. Too bad, I really did like the flat four, just wasn’t a fan on having to pay someone to do the service because you have to drop the motor to be able to get to the heads. Are you still getting a bike?

I used to have a 1988 hard-top, black, 5-speed manual RX7 in 2000 when I was in Hawaii. Damn, I should’ve never sold that thing!!! I painted the “RX7” and the “Mazda” logos below the hatchback in gold!
