SRK Car Thread (Show it off or ask questions)

if you look a couple of posts up you will see what I went with. I decided to go the Bavarian route and copped a 318ti for $1100, so now I will start with the whole build process. Already have things in the mail coming to me. It should be fun, especially since this is my first ever European car (been owning Japanese cars since I started driving).

Got some new BBS rims+spacers, new tyres filled with nitrogen and angel eyes on my car, gonna lower it 30mm around round at the end of the month.

Any other modders here??

Yeah man, I am getting into the mod world. I am more so trying to get my car to a more “M” spec (hence the name compact M). So I have already made a short laundry list of things that I need/want. I will take care of the engine work first to make sure that I get it riding the way I want. As far as the interior I am going to convert it to black, and am debating on either buying racing seats or getting black leather e36 seats. so I will slowly start taking apart the interior and cleaning up the body.

Anyway here are a couple of pics.

Interior isn’t too terrible, I just don’t like tan.

The engine bay really needs some tld, so this will be my top priority. Apparently the red cord has to be hooked directly to the battery to actually run, so I will be buying a new radiator and fan.

The bezel that holds the driver side power window button is broken so the button just falls through, so I am looking for a new one now.

Backseat wasn’t too shabby, but I will be taking those out as well and replacing them with black.

Another view of the front from the driver’s side.

Here is a view of the hatch, there was a new windshield wiper blade in there, so I scored on that. The floor mats were pretty gross so I tossed them.

Anyone know of some good sites to get BMW parts? I got to Pelican and Bavarian autosport, but I need to just find more spots. also what do you all think I should do with her?

Long as you fully understand what you’re getting into maintenance-wise.

Definitely differing opinions, the only ones I’d DRiVE are the M3 (if E46 coupe) and S2000.

Of course. I’ve had tons of cars, modded most of them. I’ll post pics of the cars that I do have:
Had this 10 years ago. Was like my 4th car. First ticket gotten in this.

Still to do:

Integra Type R Recaro seats.
Install Sparco wheel
Install mudgaurds
Mugen wing
Figure out sound system
Adjustable suspension
full color change (Sunburst Gold Metallic, Ford Mustang)
Volk CE28 or Work Meister wheels, polished.

Saying Nissan and the S2000 is garbage: the Zs are expensive and can hold it’s value, the S2000 are hard to come by and have been holding their value for quite some time. Further more, Nissan’s luxury department, the Infinity G35 are really nice overall, and have seen their value hold just like the Toyota trucks. To say these cars are garbage is pure opinion.

LOL at you. The FRS/BRZ are awesome platforms for work on. FRS is Toyota paying homage to the rwd corollla that you see in the Initial D videos. While they may not be fast in a straight line, they will hold their own on club racing, auto x, canyon/mountain spirited riding, drifting, etc. The engines are subaru’s, the chassis toyota.

Impressive history, do you work on them yourself too? I’m picking up on a few basics like removing interior and exterior parts of the body but I wouldn’t dare touch any cables or engine parts lol

@FMABB: Yeah man I know maintenance can be a bitch for the M44 engine, but I also know like any car, if you take good care of it, then it will take care of you. I ave actually been researching Bimmers for a long time (longer than Honda’s lol) so when I found this baby, it was exactly what I had been looking for. As you know I was on the hunt for a 5th gen lude, but all the ones I found were either fucked up mod wise or AT. So I broadened my search to Integra’s, Civic hatch’s, S31 Z’s, S13/S14, 4th gen ludes, and even MKII and FC’s. Hell I was even checking out a couple of Eclipses, though I didn’t want one. So I always knew I wanted to enter the European world eventually and when I did my research, I found this green car priced lower than I expected, so i test drove it and took her home. I met you around the time you had the Celica, but I didn’t know you had such a ridiculous history with cars, lol. I know you hipped me to game Honda wise, and I am looking forward to see the lude get those seats and have some ICE in the interior. Once I get it to where I wan’t engine wise, I will for sure drive it to AL. Oh and I thought that the digital climate control was only for the 4th gen ludes (those things are expensive as hell).

My goal is to have it 75-100% completed by time Final Round rolls through, so I can take it on a mini road trip.
This is the look I am aiming for, though I will get black kidney grills and am debating if I want it to be midnight blue or keep it greene (I am also considering black with gold BBS’):

Speaking of Bimmers my home town just made the national news - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19562487

Stolen in under 3 minutes, BMW don’t give a shit as long as they meet the bare min required.

Yeah man, that is straight nuts! I plan on buying a racing steering wheel (similar to FMABB’s) with a quick release, lol. Unfortunately people in my area don’t really know how to drive sticks.
In other news it looks like I am going to have a lot of stuff to buy. This build is gonna be dope!.

Under the hood:
Radiator
Cooling Fan
Head Gasket
Water Pump
Oil Filter
Air Filter (apparently getting a K&N actually causes M44 to lose power, so I will stick with a stock one)
Battery
NGK spark plugs
Timing Belt

Interior:
Black center console
new stereo (the stock one is locked because I don’t have the code)
new seats (Black M tech or Recaro)
racing steering wheel
new speakers
replace headliner to black
rear seats
Black oem floor mats
black shift boot
new door panels

Exterior:
E36 M front bumper
E36 smoked out taillights
Hamman rear spoiler
black kidney grills
angel eyes headlights

That’s all I can think of for now. I am pretty sure there will be more. I will start documenting the tearing down process as well.

How about a remap?? :sunglasses:

I have thought about it, but I will stay away from the ECU for now. Mainly just breathing new life into the engine, with new parts and clean fluids. Give the engine bay a nice cleaning and then go from there. I most likely will once I get new exhaust on it. Man there is way too much I wanna do to this car, but I gotta prioritize and get it to where it drives nice, lol.

What’s the power to torque ratio on one of those bad boys?

I guess. Its just they could have given it more power at the same time similar to the speed 3. The mazda I believe has the same time of handling plus it has power to the wheels.

I figure in 2012, they could have made it a little more exciting.

And nice car to Hyper Kid. I would have picked the same choice out of your list.

WHO CARES

:frowning:

Thanks bruv, yeah for me it was a no brainer. I love Japanese imports (I really had my heart set on a 5th gen Prelude) but I knew I would eventually own a Bimmer (I will buy a 1M one day). So basically I will be doing all the work myself and its always fun working on your car and looking at new parts and what not.

Also this came in the mail today. Now I am just waiting for my harness and then I can get this bad boy hooked up.

I was just an episode of Drive, they had a list of top 10 cars that would likely kill you. They mentioned an old episode of Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson drives Reliant Robin.

One of the funniest top gear episodes.

I love top gear so much, they actually helped me realize that getting an 1M may be better than an M3 (well price wise).
Not Top Gear, but a good video.

Most stuff. I didnt do the Prelude, by that point I wanted the best quality build possible, so I super overpaid for everything to be done at http://zerolift.com/. This is (probably)my last FWD Honda (as a scene car) so I wanted to make sure of 3 things: It wasnt a Civic or Integra, it was done as well as it could be, and even in the world of Preludes, it would stand out.

As far as other FWD Honda’s go, the ONLY ones I could even be bothered to think about owning, are a pre-facelift RSX-Type S, with all JDM DC5 Integra Type R treatment, or a TSX. So far I have been offered them (RSX,TSX) as well as S2000’s, RX8 (I would never drive) a 350Z (I would take a G35), and WRX.

@Hyper

I would suggest the Blue. Black would be hella BMW Typical, but obviously you really cant go wrong with it since it matches everything. Also (IMO) If a sportscar is green, it should be a British one.
