SRK Car Thread (Show it off or ask questions)

Is it a bad car? That car was in my future in a few years but I heard bad stuff…

My car with new body kit, I loves it

Hey guys,

I have a project car I want to work on however I don’t have a personal garage since I don’t own a house. Y’all got any ideas as to where I can work on my car?

It was a sad week. I sold my GT-R, and I’m currently trying to sell my G35.

I’m looking to lease a G37 Sedan. Anyone have one? What do you think of it? I want to pay in the $300’s per month while putting zero down. You guys think that’s doable?

I’m also looking at the Acura TSX and TL. Any recommendations between those 2 and the G37?

MegamanDS: Its a great car. Just the inside isn’t too comfortable, the backseat is practically non-existent. And some of the blind spots are bad.

Nice to know we have a car thread here.

So I have a 2 door 2010 Honda Civic LX who I name “Rinslet” (lol) and I’m looking for a good place/website to find a good body kit for her. I’m also wondering are there any other things required for my car to be able to put on a body kit. Excuse me for my noobiness.

Will post pictures later.

Question

I have a 93 Accord, and it was running great, runs great, but

the throttle position sensor started giving me issues so I replaced it, calibrated it and dealt with it. It turns out that while it was dead and i did need a new one the issue i started having with the car didn’t go away.

the original issue was that while i was in gear and below 4000 rpm, this happened in any engaged gear, I could feel pressure building up on the pedal and from there the car would slow down and start to jerk, or simply lose power and not accelerate. And if I pressed on the pedal more, the car would simply continue jerking or what feels like blockage keeps the car from accelerating. However if i pressed the pedal all the way down, the pressure in the pedal would go away, the car would jerk one last time and accelerate like if nothing had happened.

So before I changed anything originally, I disconnected the throttle position sensor to see if that would “fix” it. and the car stopped jerking and worked like if nothing was wrong. So I changed the sensor. that didn’t do anything, I then figuered, what if it was back flow into the engine because of the muffler? The car needed a new muffler anyway, and the CAT was beyond shot to hell, so I got a new muffler with CAT. It still gives me the jerking and loss of power, but it isn’t as bad. So I figure now that it might be the O2 sensor that’s fucking with my car.

Im going to change that soon, but I want to know if any of you guys had heard of, or had this problem. And if so what did you guys do to make it go away.

I have a list of cars that you all should buy me as my birthday is on the 24th.

Btw it needs to be said: Japanese automakers really need to step up their designs. They are horribly boring.

ooh thats a sad day indeed. i love the gtr, its one of my dream cars, but i’m getting to a stage where i’m starting to value seat size and trunk space more than performance

so I’m looking at buying a cheap pickup truck, something under $2k. Any tips for looking at vehicles at this level? I basically need something that will handle a load and not give out on me for 2-3 years.

I haven’t made it all the way through this thread yet, but I’m just stopping by. I drive a '94 Thunderbird SC (Super Coupe–the supercharged model SVO put together) with the rare 5-speed and also an '87 Toyota MR-2. The SC was in an accident, so it’s no longer much of a show car, but I have some work done to it. I’m a member of SCCoA.

You can check it out at http://www.sccoa.com/forums/garage_vehicle.php?do=view_vehicle&id=281

I don’t have many videos at this time, but you can find them on my youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/NewtypeAndy?feature=mhee

The MR-2 is mostly stock, just has wheels and some aggressive tires.

Haha, I was going to say “eww those car are all ridiculously heavy,” and then you got me with the Abarth.

My thought on Japanese cars is this. Most are meant to be reliable and affordable, but why buy a new Toyota Camry when you can get one of these for less:

That’s a Porsche 993, meaning a 911 from 93-98. If you get a non-turbo (save yourself the headache), they can be found very cheaply in mint condition, low mileage, everything. Maintenance will be more expensive, but if you work on your own stuff its a push. This is one of the best practical, everyday, supercars. It’s the last generation before they went water-cooled, and if you get one that’s pre-OBDII you’ll really have some flexibility for souping it up.

Wow, that body kit is really subtle and classy. Most look so loud and gawdy to me. I’m impressed.

Thanks, I’m not a fan of those loud body kits either. They’re ugly and grab the attention of the police.

Yo man your car is very clean. I like the body kit you have, very sleek.

@R-Cade: I am happy you brought this up. there is a couple of cars I know I would like to own (mainly a E90 M3) but seeing that you can get a nice Porche for the price of a Camry, is making me have second thoughts about an M3.
Actually if I decided I wanted to get a sportier car which way should I go? Should I go American and opt for an older Corvetter, or should I go the way of Audi with the TT, or what are the thoughts on the Japanese? I could use some insight into this.

Yo would any of you guys ever enter this race (if money were not an option). And if so what would be your car of choice. I know I would Probably pick a BMW E92 M3 GTS (my dream car).

Hell yeah. My dream car for it?

Ferrari 360 Modena with an F430 Challenge Stradale suspension/brakes, FXX engine, and F50 transmission.

Why that combo? The 360 is my favorite modern Ferrari (yes it looks better than the 430 because the head/tailllights) It would have a beastly loud NA engine, with a proper 6 speed gated transmission, and the updated suspension on the 430, which is obviously chassis based on the 360.

Why do people think I want their rebuilt title S2000’s for my Prelude? Comprehensive means I get book value and the growing parts value that can be proven by receipts, which is well beyond book and not done. Rebuilt means I get peanuts if the unthinkable happens.

For me, I’m eventually going to get that Porshce, just saving the money right now. Some Corvettes are nice, but you’ll probably have to pay more money to get into anything comparable. If I were going to get a Vette, I’d get a 72 stingray. Price would be high and gas would be awful, but maintenance is simple and the car is just beautiful.

2nd gen is nice too, but none of the newer Corvettes have any charm to me. They just get bigger, blander, more expensive, and super impractical. If you were going to get a muscle car, a 67 Mustang Fastback is always a top pick, as it looks great and doesn’t suffer so much from the weight issues of similar cars.

Of course, you’re not going to get anything like those for the low price of the Porsche.

Don’t get an Audi. Audis and Mercedes (and to some extent BMW) are so heavy they need way more power to keep up with a Porsche. Power alone means nothing, its all about power to weight ratio. They get lighter and lighter with older model years, but make less and less power. Plus you’ll be putting in a lot of money reworking to the suspension, you have to find a delicate balance between sportiness (hard) and practical drive-ability (not too hard, well balanced) whereas the Porsche is already there. Have to mention here not to get an all wheel drive Porsche either, or you’ll just be gaining a bunch of weight and over-complicating the car (more expensive, more to break).

As for Japanese cars, you can totally make it work if that’s your style. I would recommend a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo or a Subaru Impreza STI. These are some of the only cars that make all wheel drive work to their advantage, without being grossly overweight like a new Audi. So, they have the added benefit of being amazing in the snow as well as a nice summer day. In a Porsche, I would take it easy in rain, in the snow I would just stay home. The Evo and the STI make great power considering they’re still very light, the only problem is that they rely on a turbo. This means maintenance, and if you start raising boost for more power, you’re going to cut down the life and reliability of the engine and run into turbo lag. Not saying you can’t rework the engine to match, but its very expensive.

So, yeah, I’d still go for the Porsche. I have to emphasize, its not just because its inexpensive, its because its reliable, its practical, its light, its powerful, its got a great suspension setup from the factory, and it looks great. I’d have to warn anyone that doesn’t do their own work, that although it is reliable, maintenance will not be as cheap as the Camry. Even if you do work on it yourself, parts won’t be cheap either when the time comes that something does need to be replaced. Also, it really is a practical enough car to be your daily driver for most of the year (what other “super-car” can say that), but if you live somewhere with rough winters you are going to need a second vehicle. Right now I have a Chevy S-10, and I’ll probably get a new Toyota Tacoma if that ever dies.

I feel you on that man. the 360 is a beautiful car for sure. So why a gated transmission? Also do you ever hit up that cruise in meet at that old car dealership. There are a nice variety of cars there (a Lotus Exige, Shelby Cobra, NSX, and mass Evo’s and S2000’s)

For me my dream car is the M3 GTS, but it would be cheaper to purchase a Porche (I love the body style of Cayman over all other Porche’s). My uncle owns one and we drove from Dayton, OH to Indianapolis, and that drive was not fun. About the halfway mark I wanted to get out and stretch, but it still was fun just feeling the power under you feet.

@R-Cade: What kind of Porche are you saving for? This can help you.

To the guy saving for a Porsche - hope you aren’t getting a Boxster. Those cars are shit and not worth the money.

Yeah, I know. I did a tune-up on one once, and I had to disassemble the convertible top just to get at the spark plugs. Took a couple test drives afterward and was not impressed with that either.

An F1-style trans will make your shifts lightning fast, but with a traditional trans you get to actually drive the car yourself after spending all that money, instead of it driving for you.

Don’t worry, I’ve already seen every episode of Top Gear (thanks torrents). Those cars are beat to hell, they bought them for under $3,000 US, I’m talking about spending 25 or 30.

Scroll up to post #411 to see what I’m talking about.
