If you want reliability and a somewhat good looking car that isn’t a bad choice. It isn’t that fast but will still last up to 230,000 miles so that price is good. Plus it looks like there are leather seats which is a comfortability plus. The suspension and handling on that car is average, but it’s no luxury car. Overall it’s good for it’s price but if all you want is a car that moves and last well with little maintenance then try older hondas/toyotas. Their hatchbacks are usually the cooler looking cars imo but you might want more space.
got damn, that thing is almost as loud as a jet engine!
Something doesnt sound right about this? You downshifted and blew your motor? What exactly did the mechanic say was wrong? I would try to get another estimate even if it means towing the car somewhere. If its a hole in your block you wouldnt necessarily have to buy a whole new engine. Just the block. Depending on how much the motors are it might save some money. Either way the motors gonna have to be pulled out of the car.
And with letting the car sit for 2 years, the worst is probably the gas has gone bad. So prob have someone drop the fuel tank and empty it. Possibly a new fuel pump and filter. But with everything else you might be looking at, its not that big a deal. Should be about 300-400 bucks. And buy a new battery, plus your tires might have flat spots.

Fucking random double post…
But just looking at auto trader i found dozens of 05 mini coopers for under 11,000.
I just dont like to see people get shitted on my shady mechanics.
Wait, 80 at 3rd should be fine for most car (for the ones I had driven anyways), I got a 2010 mini cooper, 80 at 3rd should be around 5-6k only.
Anyways, what needs to be fixed? Which part of engine? (Piston/valve/cam etc etc) Transmission ok or not? (New/rebuild?)
1.1k for a new engine + labor still sound too much.
You should ask for the details that what needs to fixed and how long. For fixing car, labor should be charged & calculated by hour. And a proper mechanic should have their rate easily spotted at his shop.
Very sexy
Look for shops within the area of where the car is at, call them in advance to book an inspection appointment (after talking with the owner and stuff - if he’s serious on selling and honest, maybe ask him to pay for 1/2 of the inspection price) and then go. If not, bring a mechanic car friend.
Thanks man, took forever to get the stance right.
How do you like the GTR?
I recently purchased a 2007 Honda Civic Coupe with a manual transmission.
Does anyone have any advice for going from rest to 1st gear, and also for the same situation but on a hill? My car horse bucks quite a bit and I stall quite a bit.
I can drive alright, but I’m much more faster and nimbler on my other Honda that has an automatic transmission and I also have greater control on that one.
With regards to the car horse bucking, let the clutch out slower. It’s just a matter of practice, you’ll get it soon enough. If the car starts bucking, you let the clutch out too fast with not enough gas, or just in general. If the car stalls, you didn’t give it enough gas. If you let go of the clutch and everything is ok but you aren’t moving no matter how much gas you give it, you’re burning the clutch and should let off the gas.
With regards to hills, the way I learned it was by using the e-brake. Find a hill and park off to the side (going up). Pull your e-brake then put the car in first. Hold on to the e-brake handle while you try to engage in first gear and when you feel the clutch starting to catch, slowly let down the e-brake while you disengage the clutch until the e-brake is all the way down and you are moving forward.
what up zeus. your boy illusuyon deleted me from his list after he got blown up by my bison for the 2nd day in a row.
a hole in the motor? damn man i don’t know if you still making notes on the car but given its a euro car and since you probably going to have to get a crate engine from there you’re looking at 8,000-10,000 to get a crate motor. I would take it to a shop and see if it can be rebuilt you might have a hole in a replaceable part of the engine
2 more things to add to this.
-
check the clutch, make sure it isn’t glazed over from the mis-shift.

Join a Mini enthusiast forum. You’ll definitely find what you want there, and most likely for an agreeable price, hell maybe even locally/semi-close.
I remember getting a neg when I said I wanted to do RHD to one of my cars. Eat a dick:
Also swapped to an F20B engine because it revs higher and also there are 5 RHD Prelude in the US and none have this engine. 8lb flywheel, and ACT HDG6 clutch, all amenities work. Just needs some small things, repaint, and JDM ITR Recaro’s, Volk CE28’s, then I’m ready for Import Alliance 2011.
Nice Prelude… I should take and put up some newer pictures of mine. I have Air Runner installed on it just because I wanted to be different.
Practice. At the beginning you will feel your auto is faster, reality you MT is way faster.
If you stall that means, for a beginner it usually means not enough gas or you release the foot of the clutch too much/too fast. At the beginning just release the clutch in a smooth but not too fast motion. Once you get used to it you can shift faster and faster.
Once you got used to your car you don’t even need to touch the clutch to shift (try it at your OWN RISK, don’t blame me if anything happens LOL)!
Enjoy!
what are peoples thoughts on hyundai’s? I saw a tiburon with 90k miles…are they reliable at that mileage like toyotas and hondas?
Overall, Hyundai totally stepped up their game in everything the past couple of years.
If I had the $$, I would buy a Genesis coupe for sure.
Hyundai’s are awesome deals. You can get a new base model for well under 10K if you look around.
My family got a Hyundai when their 100k miles program first started. Car still running in a pretty good shape.
It’s a Elantra at 140k+ (Could be more, not sure). Not sure about Tiburon though.
Well here’s a list of my cars, will update with pictures later.
1988 BMW E30 M3 (in red, rare color)
2001 BMW E46 M3 (silver)
2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee (silverish beige? just picking this baby up today, trading my '01 Pathfinder for it)
The BMWs were my dad’s cars which I inherited.
