If it turns out to be inadequate for some reason you’ll figure it out down the line; no need to open by dropping money on a new computer. Similarly I don’t know how good anything online or offline is, but it’s probably at least worth having a look at some online resources before buying books. Hell, even if you like the book approach I’d bet there’s something decent at your local library.

the 8bit app is pretty good. but sadly some things are paid pro version like the nintendo filter.
pretty intuitive though. sliders to control contrast brightness color scheme etc. but it seems like a damn good pixel/sprite mimic app.

only thing i dont like is it changes the colors around to much. but that can be changed up in infinite painter later. btw, shes missing the top of her head in the pic. i didnt do that. thats how the original pic was. in my painting i had to recreate the top of her head and changed the color of her lips from red to blue/violet.
