Anyone else notice a change on the mobile interface for this site?
Is this a sign of progress or demise?

Yeah I noticed the mobile site immediately. On the same day that I mention vanilla mobile being simple no less.
Still going to have to see how it goes down with the SRK crew, but I played around with a bunch of stuff last night.
Installed Simple Machine Forum and got everything running, but it seems pretty dated. Good piece of software no doubt, but something a bit more modern would probably be nice.
Next I installed Vanilla (free since Iām hosting it myself, and not using their cloud service). I know some people hate it, but itās also the best choice if some kind of migration happens. I have animated GIF avatars working.
Discourse/Flarum/Codoforum are neat, but too modern and donāt have the community that the bigger pieces of software do. phpBB looks clunky.
Havenāt tried XenForo since it requires $140 for a single site license and Vanilla seems to work for now. Iāll keep tinkering until news comes. Already bought a domain in case things go belly up.
Yeah, pulled down vanilla and testing it out. Need to look into how it saves stuff out. Iām curious what the archive entails. If it is a zipped up web directory with all the associated data needed to run it I imagine migration to a new web host wouldnāt be a massive amount of work. The work would start afterwards with adding some premium / funding stuff to keep it going in the long run.
If we do get a new forum to post on I want rep and animated avatars back.

Just throwing my voice in here as well. Would absolutely hate to see SRK die, but if we have to migrate to a new place, Iād be more than willing to give to a patreon or lend my set of skills to make it a better place.
Edit: A podcast I follow called The F-Plus runs a forum called ballp.it, they have a $10 entry fee and itās worked out great for them. It helps keep the forums running and maintained, and keeps āthe chaff outā according to the owner.
Just a thought, I know a few others have suggested it, but an example canāt hurt.
Yep, changed to view as desktop and that remains unchanged. Could be a sign of progression towards the poasible migration as well.
Iirc didnāt SRK have a monthly donation drive target along side the premium memberships? There must have been at least 100 regulars who were premium members back in the past, getting rid of those services is was just shooting your self in the foot. I miss vBulletin, it was my favourite forum format, shame it died.
I never paid attention to rep. Please explain how it worked so I can implement it.

I may have written that up in my post on how the SRK Ranks work. It was basically Points-based. The Vanilla Points system seems reaaalllllly limited, but thatād be about it. The current SRK Ranks (your little green rep diamonds) are meant to emulate Rep. I wrote that up in the ā¦ SRK Feedback forum iirc.
