[SR$2k Dev Thread] I'll set up an SRK successor board if you guys need one

I would also be 100% on-board with this. Just be sure to advertise the hell out of it on discord/reddit to get the foot traffic that hasn’t been seen here in some time.

I will 100% support such an initiative with my hard earned cash.

Didn’t someone in the announcement thread also mention they were already doing a successor forum?

Bless the lot of you all. If there is a way to save this small community or give it a new home, it would be much appreciated.

Thing is, don’t want too many people making ‘successor’ boards all at once, as it’ll just split shit up and kill the unity faster.
Need to make sure those who are indeed wanting to do something are UNIFIED.

Thanks! I don’t want to hijack this thread but I am willing to listen to everyone’s proposals and recommendations if SRK folks are willing to let me assume the forums and migrate over. I have a few discussion points with MrWiz and he said he’d take them back to the SRK team for discussion on their end.

I have experience running a few large boards for other hobbies I have and a few folks that have jumped in to help me out with extensive IT experience that compliments my own very well; additionally, they are fellow SRK members who also enjoy the forums and want to see them continue. If it all works out we can maintain the information, migrate it over, and have it all up in a well controlled, managed environment with little to no down time and hopefully some improvements that everyone will enjoy.

In the end, no help will go unused and I want to have the community help as much as possible. I have the funding and resources setup and in place to make it all happen but will have some various aspects I can use help with such as moderation, updates, themeing, etc.

I’m definitely interested in it. Just let me know how I can help.

You came.

i’m down for this. i would also donate/buy premium. there’s no other fighting game forum out there like SRK.

I’ll help in whatever way I can.

We definitely need to save some tech here, even if we can’t save whole threads. Do we have a successor yet, or is the Zetaboards’ forum the only one?

Likewise here. I’d rather keep SRK alive, maybe reverting to the older forum format (bring back animated avatars), but if it’s a new forum or nothing at all, then sure.

I think vanilla open source would probably be the easiest option if we can get an archive before the places goes we can see about rehosting it to lower cost then see about adding some new premium memberships.

We also don’t lose the current srk and can go in and trim the fat as we go.

I wouldn’t start jumping ship to anything until an official statement by SRK leadership is put out.

im sure someone could write a bot to crudely make text archives of the forum. its really a question of who has decent hard drive space

They did put out an official statement: forums are doneso at the end of the month.

Instead of being able to talk to anybody who knows anything we get vague comments and no facts. So SRK upper management stays the same.

The Cannons have done a lot so I sure as hell aint gonna ask them to do more or assume any ill from their decision, but there is a community that deserved a shot at saving themselves if only for the fact that the user base helped solidify things.

Right now it feels half assed: the part most users like is leaving and then the clickcoin miner keeps on living.

There may be more to it than this according to MrWiz and I would say that the voices from the community to keep the forum alive are being heard, from my perspective. The ideal situation is this forum remains as is, perhaps with a different model of community support, but until all the proposals are assume the forum are considered and the SRK leadership decides the course they want to support as an organization it would be a lot of effort for a number of off shoots to start and split the membership.

My proposal to them was to migrate the entire forum and base to another solution that I and my team would pay completely, setup, and test. This would mitigate data loss and based on our plan would be run on a proper forum and server that can handle everything in a professional manner; something suitable for the shear volume and size of the community, not a setup run on shared hosting that can/will be overwhelmed by too much traffic. Without getting into the details of our technical plan here, I believe we have the right mix of technical competence and experience to assist and make the transition happen so we don’t lose the years of membership, information, and community that has been developed here.

For the love of everything unholy, no.

+1 for willing to pay for a premium membership or at least surf the forum with my ad blocker off if that’s what it takes.

For those digging the Discord thing, is there a discord plugin that we could have on-site that would provide real time chat options or would that kind of defeat the purpose of having the forum in the first place?

I miss those days…
I’m definitely interested in seeing to forum live on.

Yeah but the issue is that we’re getting second hand information from you. Instead of getting some sort of explanation on the costs and other issues, we get Wiz saying some dumb ass comment about the forums closing and then some silly ass radio silence.

If the Cannons are done with the site, I get that. There’s a good amount of people that aren’t. If at all possible then handing the keys to somebody else would be the best bet. Instead, though, the front page gets to live so it can be meme site and everybody who gave life to this place gets to hold their dick.

Things I can say for certain: 1) The cannons have been paying out of pocket for the site for years, 2) it supposedly costs a decent chunk of money.Vanilla is fucking shit software that is expensive and nobody likes. If we can go somewhere that lets us have animated avatars and is cheaper, then we’d already be winning. Similarly, knowing how much one year of SRK costs would at least let us know what type of community effort we need. If they are tired of spending money on it, like I said, I get it. But at least give us an option to our own fundraising and keep the place alive.

Some face to face communication in here would help. Doesn’t really help that all of the people with the keys to the car don’t ride in it.
