Square-Enix funds the entire development of KoF XIV, obviously not receiving a dime of profit. And SNK Playmore denies the consent for the Manga AND Anime just to troll them.
Just Kidding of course. Still, very, very interested to see how this turns out.
It’s based on how hard you hit it. The design was unpopular due to people breaking the machines and/or messing their hands up so Capcom 180’d the design and spread the levels of force out across three buttons for punch and kick respectively. And thus, the 6 button layout was born.
ADK’s World Heroes series pretty much adopted the same model, having one punch button and one kick button (regular-sized, of course) and the strength of the attack depended on the force you used to tap the button (light tap = weak attacks, hard tap = strong attacks). It was a pretty wacky setup (they even had a THROW button, and I believe the fourth button of the Neo Geo config wasn’t even used).
That stupid configuration lasted THREE FUCKIN GAMES until ADK decided it was time to assign a specific button to each attack by the fourth one (which turned out to be the last), World Heroes Perfect.
Judging by how the story ended in KOF XIII, I believe not even SNK Playmore wants to acknowledge that Ash ever existed, either.
Don’t know about that Square Enix really isn’t rolling like they used to, even though this last financial quarter they got some profit due to some of their previous games selling better then expected.
All that being said if SNKP gets any money out of this they damn well better use it fund a better KOF game, the last two have been ok but damn I know (pray) they can do better and bring in more classic characters as well.
