Spy Headquarters : C. Viper General Discussion

Man I havent played since saturday… uhg. I am having some serious withdrawals. I’ve been trying to finish up Valkyria Chronicles though…

I have nothing constructive to add unfortunately other than I just started to REALLY incorporate faints into confusing the oppo (like mp/k-faint to overhead or low mk, cross up BK, or even multi seismo’s) and also I just shoved a zangief back from mid screen to full screen with seismo’s.

I’m certainly not there yet but since also adding mid-screen ultras my viper is starting to come together well. Needs some tightening up but it feels good to cross that line where a rushdown feels like you are really man-handeling the oppo!

Not at all. There’s nothing wrong with wishing for games to be even better.

I use Taunt #2 mostly when I’m beating a poor Ken player. I think that’s the one that she says “Why don’t you lose already?” I have mines up to five can’t remember them all though.

that is pretty bad ass. i had an SE but i thought the buttons and the joystick just felt too flimsy and cheap. did you get that feeling when you first had it?

yes i did. Thats why I’ve changed the buttons and stick

cool, i guess i need to do the same since i just sold it back.

its not just a smaller version of a TE with custom artwork for like 50 bucks less.

The SE feels better IMO, but I use the TE while my brother prefers the SE.

My SFIV still has yet to be replaced so I’m still on hiatus. Only time I ever play is when at school or when friends come over for crack sessions (granted I still don’t play much then). I can feel the rust developing on my Viper. I’m just too busy with school work ATM to care (on top of jizzing all over Bayonetta, I’m so hype for that game <3).

Taunt 8…is strangely appealing…

I also use random lp’s as a form of taunting.

EDIT: Nice stick btw DrumsAreNeat. Wish I had mines customed out to play on. I just got a boring default Hrap2Sa :o

well whenever you can I want some rematches. My c.mk/mp xx tk feints are coming along and my FFF is near 100% when I get someone stunned.

Hey you added me as a friend right? I watched a video of you getting handily handled by a crazy ass vega player. I was all =|

edit*

I’ve got like 15 boners over that new team ICO game, the first two were soo damn good. Shadow of the Colossus anyone? Also the new Metal Gear Solid games (fuck. yes.) look pretty bad ass too. As does Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (it could suck ass but it looks good so far).

BTW Mag I was gonna post a log of the aim conversation I had with Kensou where I specifically showed him the question you asked regarding jump ins. Unfortunately I was on AIM express so it didn’t allow me to copy the conversation. Basically what he said was it’s character specific and you just want to make your jumps as safe as possible. He said you might be able to pick up some things from some of his youtube vids.

He also said he doesn’t think the Bison matchup is that bad. More exactly he doesn’t think it’s bad at all. It’s just one of those matchups that forces you to think a little harder. He says the key is to make Bison waste his meter. Once that happens he can’t slip out of everything like a wet bar of soap and you can pretty much rush him free once you get a knockdown or get him in a blocking position.

Cool, good look from both of you. I’ll get to watching.

AIM express is the fail for not being able to save, sir! :frowning:

I’ll probably just hit Kensou up sometime myself, because I’ve gone over some Uryo/Dashio/Gashuuku and other smart Viper players’ videos, and I’m having a hard time seeing where they get both the roundhouse + perfect cross up burning kick on crouchers still. When they get one or the other, I could still tell by the way they jumped.

I’ll also have to ask him about Bison being not bad. I don’t think Bison needs meter up close to be annoying for Viper…but I see where he’s coming from about being able to bully him on knockdown when he doesn’t have meter.

Good stuff

I’ve actually been working very hard on this and was going to post some notes on it within the next few days.

constant teleporting bison on wake-up is a pain in the ass when you’re trying to get bk cross-ups. uhg.

Bait it and punish teleport?

Safe jumping with roundhouses is best against Bison, he does slip away often though. I should have better reaction to which side he comes out of the teleport, and perhaps EX seismo them.

Burning kicking Bison…eh, at least it beats his EX PC, but definitely shouldn’t be the primary option by any means.

Kensou is right when he says never to jump in unless it’s safe. Good example is Ryu, because he will always be licking his chops… lying in wait for you to do some random jump or BK over him, especially with Ultra or Super stocked. What you want to do is quick high jump BK over him when he’s crouching or when he’s in an awkward position. Effective ranging with Seismos and TKs (and fakes) will help freeze the opponent and give you more opportunities.

This goes for pretty much everyone except for the few charge characters who can punish in the crouching position (especially Blanka). For that, you want to catch them when they are pacing around, back and forth. Again, effective ranging will get them to do that.

If you realize not to force the issue and set up your jumps properly, your Viper game will improve a lot IMO. Viper has a lot of weapons and many fakes to lower a person’s guard, so do your best to take advantage of that.

Vertical jump RH can frustrate Dictator if you space him right and keep him from attacking. As long as you aren’t in the corner and about half screen away, doing vert jump RH along with proper zoning will really take away a lot of his offensive options.

I SOOOOOO called all of this like 2 weeks ago in the matchup thread, but everyone ignored me… LMAO

7th post from the top, if anyone cares lol

Kunai Cmonnnnnnn I’m not THAT noob to be HJing into uppercuts/reversals.

When I get hit like that it’s because I messed up my seismos.

The first thing I look for is if they’re throwing out pokes, that’s where I aim my jumps. If not, I footsie/seismo depending on the range to make them press buttons…then look for jumps again.

But we were talking about getting both options to always land from a jump, so that’s a knockdown mix up question.

I have been messing around in training mode, nothing too important or you guys haven’t seen before…but I’m uploading some random stuff.

There’s more on my channel if you guys wanna browse.

Not being able to play online = too much time in training mode lol.
