I think the win quotes against her are pretty interesting, like Gen’s and Sakura’s for example.
hey be thankful her alt isnt as wack as Abel’s
yeah Abel’s alt is super wack.
I feel sorry for Abel players. He has all this potential to be a fun and strong character but he just ends up not adding up and he’s not even as difficult to figure out how to play as Viper. Then you get that AC Slater wrestling outfit as a party gift. At least we have a character that truly gets stronger the more you put into her and does ok to pretty well against most of the higher cast (the opposite being why the bad characters are bad). Everytime I talk to an Abel player I just hear how discouraged they are more so than how much they like him. Hear stories now and then about people just flat out dropping him for different characters.
This thread just got a lot cooler with DJ’s post of approval.
Viper is gdlk, I just need to stop playing online so I don’t HJ into uppercuts offline while attempting seismos and I’ll be set.
you know one time i played abel and hit someone with his ultra
we then started singing the kurt angle theme song and started calling his ultra the ANGLE SLAM
after that, when i did the kick follow up for the first time to his rekkas i thought he was going to put someone in an anglelock lol
Hmm seems I’m the only one that uses C. Viper color 10 aka The Crimson Floe.
A friend of mine is maining Abel and it reminds me of the post-beta C. Viper talk; like he’s been nerfed for fear of being OP, accept its not panning out like Viper has.
Hopefully Capcom will give him his needed adjustments in 4.2
Hey I do that offline too. Well I do it offline more often now that my stick died. Should be getting it back in a couple weeks time hopefully.
I heard you had a good time at C3 and a lot of the matches were recorded. Post up when they come out. BTW I hear SAYYYYBEEEN did most of the work.
Abel’s who I usually use when the match-up is below 3 bars. A lot easier on the brain and fingers than Viper.
Awesome. From this day forth, I will do this as well.
What do Vipers daughter and husband actually look like?

As far as her husband…don’t think she has one. She never mentions one…and the way she talks to the men in her win quotes implies that she’s not involved with anyone, but I could be wrong…
Well in the team tournament, I only got to play Eric Kim and Demon Hyo on my own stick, both which beat me. I don’t know how, but I got a burning kick double KO with Demon hyo…final round (2nd) he grabbed me like 3 times, and he edged it out with his lead. I was a sad panda since I know that match (vs Blanka) really well, too…
In singles, I played Dr. Chaos on my stick. I put the video up in the video thread of my epic failure with Viper, I had to switch to Chun cuz I was out of trickies.
The rest of teams, I was stuck with Viper on a Japanese joystick which I have no practice on. Let’s just say, a good number of people got away with me fucking up 75% of my stuff…but I still pulled one win in winner’s finals .
I’m definitely grabbing a TE stick when they come in stock though. I been with my buddy MAS stick for too long. And besides, if shit like that ever happens again (where there are no PS3’s due to people leaving because it’s 2 AM)…then I will be prepared.
Sabin did do all the work though, I just asked for my entree fee back and gave the rest to him because even though I could have done more…my performance was shit due to the supplies. He clutched it out for us…because our 3rd teammate, was rather…how do you say…impaired due to specific types of fumes. Yeah, that’s it lol.
Our 3rd was playing so funny though, he just kept rushing with Boxer when he had the lead…everyone was like, really?
Dr. Chaos has just about all the footage, he’s just having technical difficulties getting youtube to upload his stuff within a reasonable amount of time. Hopefully he gets that shit working though…there was some good stuff, especially from this gdlk player named “skyeT” who placed 2nd in singles.
edit: I still need help on those option select burning angles. You know, the really perfect ones. I’ve been trying off and on all day. The one I’m trying to do is FFF into the regular combo that ends with burning kick. Then when you jump at them, and they quick rise, I want to either make it cross up burning kick (which beats shoryu) or jump roundhouse for the hit. The problem is, I can only get one or the other. If I do that, then it telegraphs what I’m going to do if they know about Viper. Do you know how to set it up properly? I asked in the strategy and match-ups thread, but no one seemed to answer .
edit2: Ok going into detail with my problem a little further. It’s either they can quick rise and uppercut me, or quick rise and crouch my cross up burning kick completely. I want to time it so that I can do both right when I’m in the air, and not have to telegraph it when I’m on the ground. I know Japanese players do it all the time, but I really can’t find the timing for this. I’m trying different HJ burning kick heights and angles, and it’s just one or the other for me.
God damn, just gave me an idea for a sick avatar. Kurt Abel
Edit: I’ve been maining Viper since console hit. I have a lot of matchups to still learn, simply because PSN isn’t cutting it when it comes to character diversity. I plan on playing Viper all the way through for the next tourney that I go to. Just gotta make time, T.T
The jump in after burn kick is something I have to work on too. Generally crossing people up after her forward throw and cross ups in general is something I need to work on. When I see Viper players winning it’s usually either by forcing big whiffs or getting cross up j.HK’s after knockdowns. You can’t win matches crossing people up with burn kick all day. Eventually the opponent will crouch under, or reversal out or whatever. I’ll have to mess with some stuff in training mode tomorrow and see what I come up with. I think that’s one of the biggest faults in my game now that I’m trying to work on. I don’t capitalize enough on knockdowns and Viper’s j.HK is real picky for crossing up but sets up for huge damage when made ambiguous and timed right.
So I guess basically what you’re trying to say is that you can’t decide and execute both options at will while in mid air? Like you can only either always do a jump in HK or cross up burn kick based on what you’ve already committed to on the ground?
Yeah the problem when I set up my jumps from B&B combo only are:
-
I jump at them too early, my roundhouse whiffs them. At this jump time and angle, it’s the perfect way to get a cross up burning kick while not getting shoryu’d.
-
Can land my roundhouse, safe jump against EX messiah but not quite against shoryukens. At this timing, my burning kick gets uppercutted before I get over them to hit them with the flame.
-
I time the jump after a 1 step walk, but when I burning kick, they can crouch it…so that means I’m not jumping early enough. But when I jump too early, I no longer have the threat of my roundhouse. In this situation, I can burning kick the shoryuken, and land my roundhouse…but they can crouch my burning kick. I need to do my burning kick later here, to get it to hit the crouchers. The problem is, if I do it any later, they can uppercut my jump.
It’s so hard to get everything in one place. I wish we could just ask a Viper legend if it’s possible to get all at once. But from trial and error…it’s not looking so hot on my end.
Luckily, pretty much all the other setups land her in good situations where she can do all the options above at the time she wants to.
Does anyone ever do a max height burning kick to switch sides with someone if they aren’t feeling comfortable (near wall, better on one side over the other)?
Quite often against a Balrog or Gief.
For me about the jump burn kicks on the knockdown/quick roll and such, I usually use it to set up other things. Plus, if you change the angles of where you burn kick(ie, normal jump burn, dash once sjc burn/instant burn, etc) often it makes it hard to track where she will hit or when she will cross up.
Sometimes on a quick roll I’ll dash and do instant lk burn to bait a shoryu/normal, then ex seiesmo, or I’ll take a step back then empty jump block to bait something after they’ve been hit with a few burn kicks.
All this stuff makes it better to set up the meaty jump hk off of the quick roll.
I can go into some of the angles you can use normal jump burn kick on someone’s quick roll too since I spent a lot of time on this and usually specialize in this since I’m more of a momentum based player myself.
I only do max height burning kick to get out of the corner (especially against slower characters).
Like three or four times a match. I usually do a LK burning kick to fake out anyone with an AA move into doing it, then do a High Jump BK over them.
