i took a little mini break from Viper and worked out some of the other cast before i rusted over too much (ryu, sim, abel, and gief).
I’m ready to go again. I just finished her final hard trial today, only took me 2 tries. All that FFF training i do daily paid off. I’m now at a 80% at landing it in training.
Now i just need to do it in a match and online
For some reason, I have a lot of trouble playing decently in the morning, especially with Viper. Afternoon times I manage to consistently play somewhat decently. And at evenings and nightime for some reason, I actually play better, lol. Don’t get it nyself.
My next objectives are to incorporate poking far st.lk into my game like B-Izm, to improve my execution and to incorporate more Ultra set-ups into my game as well as learning not to abuse BK cross-ups.
As Viper players, do you ever get the feeling that, while you’re planning your clever mix-ups and weighing your every defensive option and whatnot, the other guy seems to beat out your cleverness everytime by just mashing random shit?
Cause I get that a lot -_-
Now ffs leave the pitchforks and torches at home, I’m not a scrub. It’s just that most of Viper’s attacks are so low priority that sometimes I get the feeling that the other guy can just stand there pressing jab 800 times and I’m pretty much powerless to stop it (yes, that’s a gross exaggeration, I know). You guys know what I’m talking about?
Edit : This rant came about after fighting a decent Rog player, whom I usually beat, and this time losing 14-3… Wait for iiiiiiit… JAB JAB JAB JAB JAB JAB JAB JAB JAB JAB… ad infinitum
The 2 things I’m working on right now in training mode are seismo, sjc, ultra or sweep, and also aa tk trade to air bk (thanks Uryo for that one!). Another thing is to never throw out a hp tk unless a) they are very close and I have 2 bars to cancel or b) they are actually jumping at me. I throw out far too many random hp tks hoping to get free ultra from it. I’m trying to get the random hp tks totally out of my game.
yeah I think I can speak with mostly every viper player when I say Ive gone through that. after a while when playing online or casuals vs people without a brain or people who mash random shit, you can just go on auto pilot and do like 2 or 3 mixups and setups that work 100% of the time. if I see that they actually have a gameplan vs me other than randomly trying to when I start to get more serious.
my edit to counter your edit:
BKs destroy spammed jabs man lol. rog is a hard matchup, though.
I used to feel that way somewhat. Not anymore though. Viper is a beast. It’s a fact of Viper life though that you will always have to work much harder than most other people to get wins. I hate when I play a Ryu and I work in feints to throws, perfect bk cross ups, nice pokes and aa tks and get them to half life, then they pull out a random srk, fadc, ultra to even the match, but that’s just how it is.
People mashing random shit is teh gheyz. You rarely see it @ arcades/tournaments, so don’t let it get to you. Unless of course you don’t go to arcades or tournaments, then I guess get sour.
the #1 thing I hate in all of SF4, is when a fucking shoto does 10 Lp.SRKs in a row as if it were a block string or some shit, If I don’t have meter I’m helplessly just blocking, 'cause god knows there is no fucking recovery on them, even going for the throw gets SRK’d sometimes.
-17 on block? Yea right. Try throwing a crouching FP after you block the first one, and I’m sure you’ll be eating the next one.
i’m glad its not only me, it seems like lp srk has no recovery at all.
and am i the only one getting srk’d when you throw a far low forward? this shit doesn’t make any sense to me. ugh, just pissed because i’ve been having an off day. my execution was just plain shit today.
Online bullshit. I go for cr.mk after a lp SRK “SHORYUKEN!” I eat their second one. Some Ryus don’t even care, they will telegraph that shit, once a Ryu did about three whiffed lp.SRK hoping to catch me with one of them which got punished.
The one that really kills me is Ken’s Fierce SRKs becoming safe and then they get to hit you with another one. They know they can get away with it, they know it wouldn’t work offline and that they’d get raped if they ever tried it.
Which is why I’ve just stopped playing Championship mode, I couldn’t put up with all the bullshit and it only got worse in G1. After reaching 17K, I just didn’t have the willpower anymore. Now I just play with people on my friends list or hang out with my friends offline.
Also, I’ve just noticed that EVERY single replay I’ve uploaded have been against Ryus. Also every single replay that someone has uploaded of me losing has been against Ryu.
Yea, I really despise online play against random lames.
I try to stick to player matches w/ friends, but after picking up on there gimmicks, it’s not much fun anymore since you know what they’re setting you up for.
Except for Viper dittos. Those are intense. Usually end in 15 seconds too, with either me or my opponent being perfected, that’s how bad it gets sometimes.
Well the problem is Viper was purposely designed to not have good “buttons”. By that…that’s my local scene’s slang for high priority normals/pokes. She is basically a character that’s about 3/4’s designed around her special moves and her buttons are basically more situational than anything else. You can’t just sit on down back and hit jab like Rog and expect to run through the competition just on the fact that it beats everything and links into your Ultra. You have to do a bit more improvising and thinking with Viper and doing all of that while avoiding the easy mode buttons of the other characters can prove to be a big hurdle towards becoming a high level Viper player.
Haha, perfects happen alot in Viper mirrors. Whoever gets FFF’d first loses, lol!
And yeah, playing with friends does get boring after a while for the reasons you said, you know their playing style and you know what to expect.
I moan about how Viper’s normals aren’t that great compared to other characters, but when I think about the amount of options you have available to you when you use Viper, I think it’s a fair trade-off. Plus I’m not really feeling any of the other characters except for Cammy and there’s no way I’d replace Viper with Cammy, lol.
EDIT:
I would prefer to follow up with a throw after c.lk since it doesn’t combo unless the c.lk was a counter hit.
I would think your working harder than you have too, as mentioned above, unless its a counter hit it won’t combo, I could image it being a fancy block string, but the c lk. s lk, c mp , tk , would do the job just as good and wouldn’t require the technical bravado of your string
Hey guys, I been really putting in alot of matches lately , I wanted to know what people are doing to put some fear into the hearts of there opponents. Alot of people underestimate viper , so i like to Siesmo SJ BK ,just to show em i mean business, my friend likes to play zoning/fient games on the opponent.
I guess the end result of all this is put the opponent in a second guessing kind of state
So I’m just curious what some of you guys like to do.
What I used to be able to do was rapid feint HP TK, that would always get them scared, lol. Now I can barely do it but I usually alternate between Seismo and TK feints to get the same effect. A lot of people online just get overwhelmed with BK cross-ups.
Hitting people with FFF combos also demoralizes them quite a lot especially if the juggle after EX Seismo is long. I remembe replaying someone on my friends list who said he felt my combos went on forever, lol.
