Spy Headquarters : C. Viper General Discussion

No…the active frames on a dragon punch last way too long. Especially a HP dragon punch. As soon as you stop flashing yellow Ryu will send you flying through the air.

So I’m sure some of you know I’ve been having issues with SJC (tight/low) burning kicks with a square gate. I spent a bit over 2 hours doing nothing but SJC LK BKs with a different grip with much success!! My viper game just improved a considerable amount. I basically stood as far away from Ken in training mode and did SJC LK BK towards him over and over and over. When I would get to the a correct distance I would use MK to cross him up and start the entire process over on the other side. I am excited.

You’ve been doing :db: :uf: (:df: :ub:) xx BK right?

It’s the only way I’m able to do it 99% of the time.

Those weird Tiger Knee motions people talk about just seem too hard to do on square.

I think Im starting to get burnt out on SFIV and Viper :(. Im really wanting to play BlazBlue but Canada did not get shipment yet… and probably wont until tomorrow, friggen pos.

I do :df::ub: on the right side and I tiger knee on the left. The real issue was never the super jump, It was always getting the burning kick to work.

I think the problem is that I wasn’t getting enough control on the stick. My new grip puts emphasis on stability and more contact with the ball top.

For people having problems with hurrican kick scrubs c.mp c.hp stuff those clean and put them in a reset animation. If your spacing is correct a mp tk or lp tk will stop it clean. Also if hey are in the corner and you hit with a tk when they hurricane that’s a free ultra. That will stop them from spamming tatsu. Lol

Yeah I just cr. hp all day on any tatsus. After doing that once or twice they will stop.

Wow, after being solely able to play online, playing the arcade version is a completely different experience. I think I’m too used to my own modded stick, that when I try the arcade stick (happ), it felt so tight that I couldn’t do anything as Viper.

At home I could do instant BKs all day long, but at the arcade I couldn’t do any at all… >_>

a SFIV cabinet using a Happ stick?

:wtf:

haha yeah I thought that was weird also. The sf4 cab at my local arcade is a vs city with sanwa. I cant even play marvel on happ.

Yeah, I guess I should clarify. There are 4 linked SF4 cabinets at anime expo here, using Happ sticks and buttons :frowning:

I’m now at 11000+ GP now, I’ll be in G1 soon. There’s like 2 replays of me losing to two Ryus, lol, I seriously messed up and jumped into shoryuken>ultra too many times. I keep forgetting to stop jumping at Ryu’s it’s such a bad habit. At least I found one of those Ryus that beat me and beat them. BTW, just uploaded a new replay of me fighting a Ryu, check it out!

I’ve slightly improved once again, my understanding of certain match-ups has gotten better, my zoning’s gotten a bit better and I can consistently perform SJC FADC>Ultra now on the 1 player side and have been landing it frequently in matches but I have trouble doing it on the 2 player side so I need to work on that. My FFF execution has gone down the drain once again, haha so I need to work on that too. Finally, my spacing and ground game badly needs work and I need to work on the Balrog match-up, I’ve got no problems beating him when I get a knockdown but in neutral, it’s hard for me because his attacks seems to always stuff out mine.

when I got to G1 I found the same gimmicky tactics and nonsense you get from the G2 guys, except with less people to play.

which is good. my game’s gotten way better from just sticking to training mode + player matches with strong connections. I get to see my bad habits and test out new mixups instead of just grinding and getting pissed when bad players beat me. haha.

online play steals your SOUL!

I got to G1 last week, and haven’t won a single tournament yet. It may be because I suck but also the competition is much more fierce out here.

I wish there were more people to play, but at the same time the competition has been so good that you have to take mostly everyone seriously. I guess it will keep me from playing too much because fishing for games can take so long.

It’s forcing me to really practice those super-difficult Viper moves and strats. FFF is not so difficult to do anymore, but doing SJC Burning Kicks after certain normals are pretty friggin’ hard. Also practicing more SJCed Focus Attacks.

if only we could get championship match requests during training mode.

however playing against the cpu does give u the chance to learn character specific things

Haha, that’s what people I spar with are telling me, they’re saying don’t bother getting to G1, stick to G2, everyone abuses gimmicky tactics, there’s only like 10 good players etc. I should listen to them, but I’ve got to see what the fuss is about. I think when I get eventually get to G1, I’ll play there for a bit then just stick to player matches with other people on my friends list.

I think that if I were playing Japanese G2/G1 players, it would be harder to advance, the competition’s probably better.

For fun, I sometimes play the CPU in vs mode and surprisingly learn a few things about other characters as well.

I am in G1, and I totally agree with poopclown. There is a LOT of gimmicky stuff going on. Stick to player matches!

I stopped playing ranked and champ a long time ago. I’ll only play them if there’s no one on my friends list that wants to play.

Championship has gone to shit lately.

When it was first up I remember playing lots of good people, now it’s nothing but people who either insist on spamming, or landing 1 combo and running away the rest of the match to let time run out.

I’m so glad people can’t mess with the settings, 'cause in Ranked I can’t recall the amount of times I played people who did “1 Round, 30 Second” bullshit.

Edit:

BTW, Yesterday @ a local house Tourney w/ 26 peeps I lost in Loser’s Bracket Finals, coming in 3rd Overall. Dude is uploading some vids to YT so i’ll post them in the Archives when I get 'em.

I was put into Loser’s by a super smart Honda (who came in 2nd BTW) in 3rd Round, and then lost to a crazy tight Boxer (who came in 1st BTW) in Loser’s final. His Combos were so perfect, he didn’t miss not 1 link, and kept the pressure on me like crazy, he pretty much shut me down.

So I pretty much only lost to the top 2 people there, casuals after I was able to take a set on both the Rog and Honda, but by far, a good Boxer or Honda will make you pull your hair out.
I was the only Viper there too, so it felt good to be repping the Vipes!

I quit CE mode a long time ago, its a joke.

I stick to player matches where I can actually learn something, other than cheap tactics…
