Springfield, MO - No, really, we play fighting games here!

Hey everybody, my name is Jake and I’m spending Christmas in Joplin with my family. I’ve been hanging out with my friend Ben Weeks and we have been talking about how dead the fighting game scene here in Joplin is. If any of you guys are home and would be up for playing mvc 2 or 3, sf 4, or other fighters, let me know and we can try to set up a gaming session.

I gotta tell somebody and my family doesn’t seem to care but it’s a merry Christmas for me as I just completed my 200th KOF XIII trial. Holy crap those are hard. To do it I completed 4 trials with everybody and all 10 of Maxima’s. But that’s only 150 so I still had a lot of work to do. There are 10 level 5 trials that I can’t get. I can’t believe there are still 160 trials left to complete.

I recommend this game to anyone who wants to level up their execution. There are some cancels in this game that are beyond what I thought was required for fighting games. If you want an example try Terry’s trial 5 and Elisabeth’s trial 3.

Wow, this game is so good. Please come out to Meta on Monday nights in 2013.

Jake, thanks for the heads up man. I’m Sang, nice meeting you. Our FGC is about the same. Most of our members either have their own personal issues or are burned out on fighters. On a different week I might be free but on holidays like this week, its a definite no go for me. Enjoy your stay in Joplin.

I’m expecting an HD combo the next time we having a meet up else my Kula or Mature will just run through your team again. Hahaha. Nah I’m kidding, but I’m expecting amazing things to happen next time.

Jake, are you on XBL or Live?

Not yet but he will be soon, hopefully.

what’s up spfd? the 417 still breathes, but our fighting game ways have fallen off.

merry christmas to y’all.

Greetings, everyone! Thought I’d stop in, say hi, and post so I can (I hope) play some SSFIVAE PC with others. My GFWL ID is GummyZergling.

Also, any estimated opening date for the second Next-Level Games location?

And any chance of Meta Monday nights ramping back up soon? Playing fighting games online just isn’t the same as playing 1-on-1 locally. :frowning:

I don’t know about Next-Level, but I can ask someone I know who works there.

Meta Mondays typically have about 2 or 3 in attendance; it’s not a lot of people, but it’s better than nothing. I don’t think anyone will be there tomorrow, but we should be there on the 7th as normal.

Awww, I actually get off at 7:15 tomorrow and was hoping maybe someone would be there :frowning: Ah well.

Your friends in Indiana are hosting a Street Fighter, Marvel, and Smash tourney in just under a month. Please take a look and consider!

I spoke to Fred a while back about it (as I’m trying to get a job over at the new location) and he said Spring-ish. Apparently they had to push back the opening a couple of times now and it’s just yeah. A big mess for the opening for some reason. I just got vague details.

Also, yeah, I’m still alive. I’m mostly just biding time and what not until the next BB comes out. I’m bored with Persona and no one plays SG or BBEX right now, so I’m stuck in this weird limbo of “Should I buy SF or MvC?” It’s not going well.

Markus, don’t buy either. Just come out to Meta on Monday’s and play KOF with us. We are having a great time. Bring BBEX with you and we can certainly make that part of the rotation. You don’t even have to bring a console, just a stick and your game.

I’m with Tim. I’ll play some BB-although you should really consider the special joy KOF can bring into your heart.

Doh. I actually had an extra copy of SF4 PC now that it finally arrived. Regifted it last week :frowning:

The Third Strike soundtrack: great soundtrack, or the greatest soundtrack?

I have to say “great” soundtrack. I don’t know what would be the greatest but KOF XIII is up there as well. Right now, those are my top two. Also, what are the rules of this game? Is this limited to fighting games, does it include movies, etc…

And can we vouch for games that are only out in Japan right now?

Because I got a few contenders.

I think the rules for “greatest soundtrack” relative to Third Strike are kind of like evaluating whether or not a musician is greater than Bjork. Is the musician Bjork? No? Well, then they’re not as good as Bjork. (That doesn’t mean that they’re bad; just that Bjork is the greatest.)

Seriously, if there are other awesome soundtracks, I might need to check them out; I’m always looking for new stuff to listen to at work.

Bjork! Your response is existential as opposed to rational. Would you also say that Bjork is not a greater musician than me because Bjork is not me?

Here are some more that you probably already know about.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mega Man 2
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

I still say that as good as these are, none of them touch the 3rd Strike (or KOF XIII) soundtrack.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was is still one of my favorites. I remember sitting up for about a week trying to learn the clock tower guitar solo.

Chrono Phantasma is so much better. >.> But Continuum Shift Soundtrack is better because it comes with Hazama tracks.

Also, Under Night in Birth’s soundtrack is so fucking good. As well as Sonic Generations and Persona 3-Arena music is really good too.
