Springfield, MO - No, really, we play fighting games here!

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the Marvel scene in Missouri is nonexistent. I was hoping for some local competition but…oh well. :frowning:

Haha, don’t mind him. I play Marvel, but haven’t made it out to regular hookups in a while cause of my job. There are regular fighting game hookups still going on at Meta Games on Monday nights though. Nothing solid on schedule, but I know there’s been SF, Skullgirls, and probably Blazblue going on lately. I know a couple others play some Marvel too, so I’m sure someone would be glad to throw down.

But if you’re ever able to make it to KC, they got a pretty strong Marvel scene, I go there myself each month for their tournaments.

Well, I go to school up at Columbia, at least for another year until I graduate, but I don’t know if there’s a scene there either?

I might have to check MG out some time though, people keep telling me to find an offline scene and I’d like to at least try.

You may pop in the KC and STL threads too, I know there’s at least a couple guys in and around Columbia that hang around those guys and play.

/stifles laugh.

What Torrey said. We play pretty much whatever for the most part, though right now it’s mostly BlazBlue and Skullgirls, thanks to me. >_>;; Though, I’m down for whatever, those are pretty much the only things I have right now. That being said, SANG, BRING YOUR COPY OF MARVEL, I’D LIKE TO GET IN SOME GAMES WITH IT UNTIL I GET MY OWN COPY.

We’re mostly just casual meetups, until our other place, Next Level gets done remodeling, then we’ll probably start trying to hold ranbats or something of that nature. (Or, at least I’d like to.)

For Marvel community stuff, KC and STL are pretty strong there, as Marvel is one of the bigger games out. I’m personally part of that ‘Anime Game’ community and whatnot, so yeah.

Also, Torrey, did you by chance get the 11th off? =3

No, I tried :frowning: My workplace was offering time off, but none of the people who work my hours got theirs approved.

@dotsdfe Wow. Sorry. I didn’t bother to proofread after posting. Missing the part of the message where I give you useful information and not sound like a raging dickhead. There is definitely some Marvel competition, especially when some of our friends drive down from West Plains. It seems like we end up playing whatever anyone feels strongly about. We dusted off SF4AE last Monday, and I imagine getting people over to marvel wouldn’t be too difficult this week.

So wait, where is this at exactly? Like I said, I live in Marshfield, so I’m not like, super familiar with all of Springfield, even though I go there pretty often since there’s nothing to do here. I also don’t have a car right now but hopefully I can get one in the near future or borrow my mom’s in order to go. I just want some local Marvel competition, really.

Meta-Games is at 3309 E Sunshine in Springfield. If you get off 44 and take 65 south, it’s just east of the Sunshine exit. It’s not too tough to find.

I typically show up around 7 on Mondays, and there’s generally someone there already. I try to bring my setup and Marvel, Street Fighter, KOF XIII, and Tekken vs SF, plus two sticks and all the fighters I’ve downloaded on my Xbox. I wouldn’t claim that I could give you competition, but I will play the game with you.

Hm, alright. Hopefully I can find a ride some time and try to go.

Okay, I’m bringing Marvel tonight and we’ll get some games. I would also like to get some KOF as well.

I’m in for KOF. See you there.

@dotsdfe:

Marvel is pretty much the only fighter I play now, so if Saturdays ever start back up at NL (can’t do Mondays because of work/family) I’ll gladly start a Marvel station with you if there’s an open setup available.

Not claiming I’m good or anything, but you’ll have at least one person to play.

Just wanna say, good games to everybody last Monday! Was really happy too play something other than SG and BB. It’s good to have some variety.

Anyway, I’m thinking I’m gonna be getting my own legitimate internet soon, since Mediacom is apparently running a special deal at the moment for some pretty boss deals atm. This obviously means I’ll be playing online now too, since I need to kinda branch out to really level up my game and what not. I’ll have my PSN ID in my profile later when I get it, so yeah.

@Markus - Honestly, I still maintain that playing online consistently made me a worse player, not a better one. Then again, maybe my 'net is a little jittery.

I’ll disagree with Josh. Playing online made me better, because I got to play against other people and see different styles, characters, and strategies in action. Hanging out with the same guys has a problem, because everyone can’t be great with every character.

You kiddin me Tom? I’m master of every character at every game.

@Caravel - Well, for me, I would have to focus on using the least-laggy setups and combos online, especially with MVC3. In live play, the dumbing-down did not translate well. It is nice to play against different characters, but I think I actually encountered more variety last year at Meta. When I kept records for SSF4 on XBL, one in 4 players I fought against online was using Ryu, and fully 90% of the matches were against the same eight characters.

Online has some disadvantages such as lag, possible overused characters and a number of other things (Such as the games own netcode and stuff). There’s also a ton of players in every game that have honed their skills online too.

The reason I want to play online so bad is that I’ve noticed my main problem is that I get overly nervous at outings such as Max Out because I’m not comfortable with playing people from other areas. I’m wanting to break through that very silly barrier. It was also really fun to play online too. /shrug. To each their own, I guess.
