Yeah, I’ve been messing with Rocket Raccoon and Phoenix Wright. Not sure if I’ll be able to utilize them together though. Seems like Wright is most useful when he has a good strong team to back him up while he collects evidence, which, while RR log assist is great, doesn’t provide as much effective cover as something like, say, Sent drones.
I’m trying out Strider in the middle slot myself. I’ve got him saddled between Wesker on point and Hawkeye as anchor. Wesker still builds fuckton meter (comparatively for Ultimate), so I can tag Hiryu in with plenty of bar and a good covering assist at his back. I’m loving that team, sincerely. If only Strider had a purple color to match everyone else.
^^ I know, right? Iron Fist is the most fun I’ve had with a fighter character in a long time. He’s hard as shit to use, but when you get in and land that combo you feel like a total badass.
My team as of today is Iron Fist/???/Hawkeye. I’m struggling to fill that middle slot. Nemesis, Doom, and Ghost Rider did well there. Cap did fair. But nobody has “clicked” yet.
Hey, I picked up my copy two days ago but just played yesterday. I see I can otg trish’s maximum voltage and x-factoring in the air really changes my gameplay now. I’ll see if I can come up with some tricks and meet you guys out this Saturday and next Monday if you guys are free. Now running trish, viper, and morrigan. I can throw in my favorite characters now and they work out fine.
I work Saturday and have a test Monday night. No games for me. I really want to get some live play, but I guess I could use the practice in the meantime.
Nice to see EVERYONE IN THE FUCKING TOWN IS LOVING IRON FIST. @_@
Was messing with him a little bit ago and he is really fun. I may use him instead of Dante as Anchor. I’ll have to do some more training with my general movement and understanding of how the game functions compared to BlazBlue, but I’ll probably have the hang of it soon.
Also, I fucking hate the challenge mode in this game. It is trash in comparison to BlazBlue’s, where it actually teaches you useful things instead of the first five challenges being ‘Do things all the characters can do’. Good one on you, Capcom.
After much experimentation, I think I might just make a Hawkeye centric team. He’s been on pretty much every team I’ve made so far anyway.
I’m loathe to put him on point because he’s at his best with meter to burn, and his assists are too damn good. I think I’ll make him second with a battery on point and a good support assist third. Can I get some opinions?
Right now I’m sitting on Wesker or Ghost Rider/Hawkeye/???. Wesker builds meter better and isn’t doomed up close, but GR does well enough at meter building, creates a more lockdown and zoning oriented strategy, and has better assists for Hawkeye. In slot three I’m thinking something like Doom Beam/Missles, but I’m open to suggestion.
Also, do you think Hawkeye would do okay out front, or am I right in giving him a battery first?
@Gypsy Haven’t really played with Hawkeye enough yet. Will try that later. @Markus Well, the new Brady guide for UMVC3 is out, and is better than pretty much any training in any game ever!
Mission mode - yeah the first 6 or so challenges are all throwaway, but you have to give 10 year olds something they can achieve to make them feel good, I guess. However missions 8-10 for most characters are actually much harder than most of the missions in Vanilla MVC3 AND a lot of them are actually useful (making you do Doom Loops, Magneto’s new ROM loops). The Street Fighter challenges were almost never BnB’s. Get the guide, in any case. Or just spend more time in training mode.
Hawkeye - I agree that having an excess of meter is nice for Gimlet anytime anywhere. I think he can easily do both point and secondary (because his assists ARE really good). However, if you’re going to put him second, then your third also needs to be a good projectile assist, kind of limiting your team to a pure zoning one.
Iron Fist - good luck with him as anchor. He kind of needs assist support to even get in there. He is super badass though ^^
I’ll third the Brady guide. It’s like the old Sears auto manuals, it’s just as comprehensive. Although I really wish they’d cut those silly “power rankings” out, it just makes me even sadder about Shuma’s meh-ness.
I’ll try Hawk on point over the weekend. I’ll sadly be working through the tourney, but we’re off for the holiday next week, so I should be good to go.
Anyway, been spending a lot of time on working with Vergil combos and whatnot. Rapid Slash > Devil Trigger combos are pretty cool.
Iron Fist is a pretty great character too. 700K for two Meter? Yes please.
Still having trouble working with Doom. Looking for replacements.
Thinking of Iron Fist/???/Vergil at this point, since Iron Fist is definitely a point character while Vergil needs a bit of Meter to get his crazy mixups going. I’m only having trouble deciding who should be back up Iron Fist and have Synergy with Vergil that I like playing as (Doom is able to fill this very well, but I’m not liking his combo structure and his clunkiness. I know he’s ridiculous when you get him out, but I kinda wanna be lazy. >_>). Back to the drawing board.
Been spending a while in training and getting down doing combos too. Plan to work on pressure soon and then probably general mobility.
In other UMvC3 related news: Mouse is rather enjoying X-23.
@ Gypsy: Thanks, will check later if you’re right about it. You should be able to get another 100K out of it if you get it in the corner by doing Berserker Barrage Hyper first, then Spirit/Dragon afterward. Will test when my sister wakes up.
Also, I’ll be at Next level at about noon today to set up some casuals in UMvC3 for any who wants to come in early before the tournament.
Sometimes you just got to let it out man. Ever since I picked up UMVC3 I never needed so much breather after a long combo miss. Also Hawkeye super is BS, I was on the other side where he was aiming and I still got hit. Guess I learn things everyday with this game.
