Definitely. If we get enough, you think we should look at any hotel accommodations or possibly someone to bunk up with? Assuming we’d stay both days of course.
We can just record on the 360, since I usually just bring the PS3 up for some variety from SF4. Also, I’m slightly interested in Screen Land, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to go, since I’ve barely got the money to make it out anywhere at the moment.
Damn, I must have glossed over this when I was out of it.
Heck yeah, team tourneys are fun too (this is assuming that enough people stick around to do them). Some people leave immediately after losing…which I don’t really understand. You can learn stuff and/or play casuals the rest of the day.
Hmm…never really thought about staying the night. If we can get someone to host us, that would be great. Splitting a hotel room isn’t bad either, as long as we get enough people.
Yo, I definitly will be staying at a hotel. Sorry, I’m the type that doesn’t like to bother other’s for a lot. I don’t mind booking the hotel for everyone, just got to deal with me during the night time. Is anyone going to bring a setup if we decide to stay at a hotel? Also, anyone know a decent hotel we can stay at?
Edit: This is the best hotel I can find in the area. Let me know and how many is going and I’ll book it. Hampton Inn Kansas City/Liberty

Working on getting the 13th scheduled off, and actually off on the 14th already. Beyond that, If I can get my munchkin over to his grandmothers for a night, I’d love to go. It would be my first out of town tourney.
The best deal I found at the hotel Sang selected was:101.15, 2 queen beds, nonsmoking. After some liberal coupon abuse, it was around $89.
which is on the same street as the venue, within walking distance, for what looks like around $102.
Also, looks like Chachi isn’t gonna be able to make it this weekend now, and I haven’t heard anything from anyone else, so looks like it’s gonna be an all-Springfield affair.
Okay, so I thought my wife’s family reunion was on Saturday, but it’s on Sunday, which means I may be able to make it to the tournament at Next-Level Games. I still won’t be participating in the tournament (sorry, money’s tight and I know I’d get rolled in the tournament), but I’d love to watch and play friendly matches before and after.
It would be the first tournament event I’d be attending, so I’m hoping to go! It all depends on scheduling and babysitter (i.e. my wife’s parents) availability.
Yeah sorry torrey i wanted to come down but i don’t think anyone else is going and my leg still doesn’t allow for operation of motor vehicles :(. Good luck with the event and i hope they do continue.
Understandable. That must’ve been one hell of a fall in Chicago Ah well, looks like it should be good. I’ll definitely keep you all posted on future events!
I’ll probably pop in and see how it’s going. I’d have loved to have participated, but yeah. I’m pretty garbage at SF. I have been practicing though, but more to a regiment of getting down the combo system instead of just a single character, atm.
Anyway, I mainly needed to post to tell Torrey to bring up KOF XIII on Monday. I really want to get into that game, because it’s pretty fun.
@Markus Just screwing around with the system was the way I went to. For me, just having some fun looking at what I can do in the system is what really got me hooked back on SF4.
If I could recommend anything; it would be to keep an open mind on the character select screen. We can become (justifiably) concerned about the Tier of a given character, that is perfectly natural. Yet perceived Tiers cannot take into account the natural strengths and psychology of a given player. A player who is a “natural turtle” is more likely to make less effective use of characters full of rush-down options like Yun or Cammy. With Guile, suddenly that player has picked up a character whose play style supports their own natural attributes.
In summary, the character you finally settle on after taking some time to independently explore may surprise you.
Yeah, I’ve been looking at Guile a little bit since I did some of his challenges (Which is still stupid that Capcom didn’t update those for $15, but whatever), but I’ve always had a problem with charge characters. When I look at my other fighting game experience (BlazBlue, Arcana Heart and Guilty Gear), I chose Makoto, Akane, and Sol/Order Badguy respectively, all of which have ridiculous rush down tools and high damage capability.
For SF4, I’m thinking of settling on Cammy/Yang/Ken, since my playstyle has always been ‘get in there’ and because Ibuki has a high execution barrier for her harder stuff, which I’m not able to really grasp yet.
I’m not ever really looking at Tier Lists to see what character I should be playing, but to estimate their possible strengths versus the character I’ll be playing as. Seeing Yang as S-Tier doesn’t make me want to play him. His general design as a character is why I want to play him. Same goes for Cammy and Ken.
Once I get more comfortable with the system, I’m sure I’ll start really giving you guys some sort of a challenge. Since I come from ArcSys Fighters, most of my experience doesn’t exactly translate onto Street Fighter’s system, but I think my basic fundamentals (Blocking, getting in, poking) shine well. I’m going to be watching a lot more SF vids soon so I can kinda learn how to really play, like I did with BlazBlue.
And thank you for all of the support and advice to everyone on here. I probably never would’ve played SF4 if it wasn’t for the helpfulness of everyone here.
What time does (or did) the tournament at Next-Level Games start today?
I’ve been preoccupied with admin duties this morning and then lunch, so I don’t know if I’ll make it out today.
EDIT: Also, I read mention of a capture card. Does this mean today’s tournament is going to be broadcast online? If so, could someone post a link to the live stream?
