Springfield, MA - Tournament Saturday, April 13 at 1:00pm

What happened, Pat?

There’s one at the Play N Trade in Danbury, CT. Here’s the link. There’s also going to be one at Gameplay USA, from what people have been saying in the thread.

Gameplay is right next to my house, i can check it out. they said they were only gonna do it if 10 people reserved the game there, and well that didnt happen lol so idk if its still going down.

This game is fucking hype.

Thank you sir.

Hello, people. I’ve been considering getting in to MvC3 for months now, but still have not made up my mind. I have very little experience with previous entries of the series, and no experience beyond mashing buttons with any traditional fighters. For a year now I’ve been attending various tournaments for Brawl and practice weekly with people (Mainly a high power ranked player) in Westfield/Agawam. I understand that the devotion to become decent at a traditional styled fighter is far more than that of a simple game like Brawl, and this is where I get hung up. Without someone to teach me the basics and some of the more competitive aspects of the series, I can’t see myself sitting down, reading, testing and actually getting in to it. Once I get past the initial learning curve, I’d probably be set and would be constantly devoting time to it.

So basically, I’m curious if you guys think I should even bother trying. I’ve seen a few of you in Westfield/Agawam already (I live in Southwick), so maybe someone would be interested in being a local tutor for me? If not, and you think I still should get in to it, what recommendations can you make to me for learning the game by myself?

Sails, this game is pretty new. Most of us who have played MvC2 have had bad habits carry over, so its almost better to have a bit of a clean slate. General fighting game start always carries over so just having a background in any game is good. We are all learning this game right so its a good time to jump in.

Great to hear then, I guess I’ll be picking up my preorder tomorrow after all

I hated MvC2 but I am currently enjoying MvC3. Since I did hate MvC2, I had very little experience with the game. It’s not too hard to learn the game starting from scratch but it ain’t easy either. Also, Agawam ain’t far from Springfield so that’s where most of us are.

To avoid double posting, who ended up winning that MvC3 tourney at Gameplay?

Ken did.

FYI - Hate MvC3 right now. I don’t get how damage can be sky high for everyone.

Salis, hey seriously get into this game.
You wont be too far behind in tactics since no one has had this game for more than a week.
Your only behind in execution and learning how to block really.
Im from Westfield so im basicly next door from ya.
We could spar together, no problem.
O yea if your thinking about getting into these tradition fighters you might as well pick up a fight stick.
Street Fighter 4 SE edition would be great for you since you probably can get it mad cheap and by the time it breaks
You should know by then if tradition fighters is your thing or not.

P.S Pat, you keeping Hsien-ko or dropping her?

ATM I’m running through the char list. Unless Hsien-Ko has a teleport her air-“walk” makes her useless outside of assist.

Awesome, I’m enjoying what I’ve played so far, and I’ll try and scoop up a stick eventually. Gamestop in Westfield said they don’t have any right now, so I’ll probably pick one up online.

Im going to go ahead and take back my opinion on Iron-Man. I think he is a lot crappier than I initially thought. He is pretty versatile, which might be his saving grace, but his lack of any good hitboxes for his buttons makes it tough to really open opponents up up. Characters like Sentinel and Dante can pretty much hit almost any button and knock him out of any of his tri-jump normals. His zoning isn’t all that godlike either in terms of reward, although in terms of the quality of his zoning tools it’s certainly better than the quality of his offensive tools. The way Im perceiving him is basically: Zoning tools: A. Zoning reward: C. Offensive tools: C (at least in terms of the quality of his normals) Offensive reward: B+.

I feel like his best option is to try and get the opponent in between him and one of the standard assists in the game and then use that brief opportunity to get your mixup (something Wesker can do A LOT better). Otherwise it’s going to be relatively difficult to get people to respect your momentum.

Taskmaster on the other hand has a LOT more potential. He might be one of the few characters that legitimately shits all over sentinel, and I wasn’t previously aware of his unblockable setups, of which he can potentially have two (depending on what his assists are). He has the manual unblockable setups post-swordsmaster, which he can help setup with a good long blockstun assist, or use spidey swing in strings to force a high/low unblockable with a low assist. The setup I think they might be referring to in the Taskmaster forums is something like :d::snka:,:snkb: standing:snkc:, :f: :snkc:+:a1: (where a low assist would be) and then cancelling his webswing into the high attacks. Pretty dirty. Also, Taskmasters buttons are WAAAY better than Iron-Man’s buttons. I was playing a few matches last night and I found that people who disrespected my Iron-Man and managed to kill him absolutely got demolished by my Taskmaster when he came in. You simply have to respect Taskmaster’s buttons, particularly j.:snkc: and people just didn’t seem used to that after having pushed almost anything against Iron-Man and tagging him (unless I was playing lame and staying back until I could get a legitimate chance to go for a sandwhich setup).

Speaking of Wesker, I have been putting some thought into him. I think the basic idea of what makes him so strong is that he has a relatively unique ability to make his assists so much safer in a game where assist invincibility/speed is generally a bit nerfed. Basic gambit as you all probably got to see with him is to do jumping :df: :snkc: + :a2: (assuming this is where sentinel is) XX :dp::snka: and he’s basically teleporting behind you as Sentinel is readying the drones. In situations where he has a lot of frames to work with, this sequence is just rock solid, and since the game is huge on damage, he thrives even with relatively low damage comparatively. As far as team building strategy, I think the relationship isn’t necessarily one sided as far as wesker’s ability to bring the best out of Doom/Sentinel style assists; I think just as Wesker makes his assists better, so too does Wesker require a perfect assist to make the most of his own abilities as well. In that respect I think Wesker might be a tiny bit weaker than some of the other candidates for godlike characters, but I still certainly have him up there in terms of ability.

You think the spidey-swing loop combo for Taskmaster is worth it? I can do it and it looks cool but I can’t link it into any other Supers available on my team =/. Any suggestions on who might be able to follow up after that? Basically that combo ends with a spike to the ground into a jumping downwards Aim Master into Aim Master Super. I can link it with Zero but it’s not consistent. Sometimes it hits sometimes it doesn’t

Thanks. I did take a look at the Haggar wiki before, but haven’t seen the video there yet, nor the other video that you posted. I’ll be going into the lab with him and my other characters very soon! And yeah…MvC3 is hype!

Welcome, welcome. No matter how new you are, if you’ve a sincere desire to learn and level up (which certainly seems to be the case here), people in this area are generally open to helping! I guess I will see you around soon, man.

The man has good information. Also, if you do get an SE Fightstick, the only parts that are likely to break are the stick and buttons, which can easily be replaced with higher quality parts. And if you ever wanted to do that, I could help.

Interesting. Are you going to keep Iron Man anyway? Or you are planning to switch him out for another character?

I thought you said you weren’t going to play MvC3 online at all!

I still haven’t gotten my game yet, but from the little bit ive played so far, i like wesker, x-23, sentinel, trish, and arthur. those are the characters i like the most right. My game needs to hurry up so i can actually go into training mode and practice. I feel so far behind compared to everyone else =(

Hey check the holyoke mall, I remember seeing one there going for $40 I think.

i ordered mine of the capcom store and it just hasnt arrived yet

Depending upon the shipping method, you might be able to track it and see when it’s supposed to arrive. I ordered there too, and was able to get tracking for the package. I ordered it with UPS shipping, and mine’s scheduled to arrive on Thursday. If you chose the free shipping option, it might take a while. :frowning:

Just out of curiousity, am I the only one in the area with MvC3 on PS3 besides Zorin and (soon) blueNINE?
