Spooky Announces EVO2012 Will Be His Last Stream

Eat shit he sold my shirt and I still got one

That isn’t the point being made. He does deserve to be the recipient of donations but to arbitrarily expect that happen without explicit goading or pushing the community to let them know what is up financially is silly. I’d say also to have been providing something for free without at least TO’s giving him something to offset the costs is commendable but again brand wise it isn’t a good look, ultimately you will be unappreciated. I personally always assumed dude was being taken care of by each tournament he sacrificed his time and energy to helped cover. As such, I admittedly took a bathroom break whenever there was a donate overlay ad on stream.

Had I not stumbled across this thread I wouldn’t have even known that there was any real issue. I’m sure some of the 18,000+ are the same way. Remember most people (myself included) are idiots and most importantly don’t read minds. One can’t put link up on the stream and say “Hey guys, donate if you can” and expect everyone to move, put the same link up and say something to the effect of “Hey guys, there’s a bunch of tournaments coming up and I really, really would need extra help with you guys donating. I’m trying to do this that and the other” etc. I can guarantee he’d get a much better response from the people watching the stream that appreciate what he’s don’t for us.

Passive calls don’t do shit in this world, FGC or otherwise. Active calls do. Sometimes you have so expressly lay it out let people know wassup if you want action. Remember that infamous Kara-gate donation “scandal” thread? Active call!

Well he’s streaming tournaments for fighting games, there is no money in that and you know it. That’s a given at this point, otherwise we wouldn’t need every major to have fifty sponsors attached to it. Running tournaments has always been a thankless job, imagine traveling across the US for two years to stream them all.

I’ve known him for half a decade and the dude will not come out and say something’s wrong. I know it from experience. I was just wrongly assuming that people valued his fucking absurdly amazing services enough that when it came time to donate that he wouldn’t need lights the size of Las Vegas to portray the need to reciprocate or show some real thanks.

He shouldn’t need a giant problem to have a need for people to donate to him, especially when other top players are just chucking the free crap they got for donations at the same time.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Spooky is a man that I deeply admire for all he does to this community. He has that real passion as a gamer. The man works mad hard to hear people bitch, whine and downright lie, I don’t blame the man at all. I’m glad that one his last stream I’ll be there as a real life monster and show him my appreciation towards his hard work and dedication.

My nigga Spooky, thanks for everything and much love! From your Super Duper Streamonster! o/

sp00ky really is the best

I’m gonna be 100% honest, outside of my local community, Spooky is the only guy I donate to. Hell, he’s the only guy I even think about donating to.

Sp00ky finally got a subscription button after all this time that showed he deserved it. Now we’ll see who the real supporters are.

I’d still rather donate 100% to Spooky. Twitch gets a percentage when you hit subscribe.

Really? I was 100% sure the subscriber button was an “All-proceeds go to the streamer” type of deal. Did they change their policy?

I’d think they’d be excited to advertise all of it goes to streamer if it did, no? Any time I asked any of the twitch staff directly (on the blog, on twitter) I never got a response.

Needs more transparency.

Good to hear Spooky isn’t retiring and just changing focus. I think it was obvious to everyone that he was getting worn out and kind of dejected with things.

I recently donated $250 to him, dude entirely deserves it. Always baffled me that he didn’t get paid for his work.

Yes but that icon near your name shows to 10k people on the chat that you put your money where your mouth is and they have not. Maybe if you rub it in their faces enough they’ll give in.

I know it’s possible to get that kind of deal, but my understanding is that it isn’t typical.

Help a twitch.tv noob out here, I need someone to hold my 2-month old hands.

Do I need PayPal in order to be subscribed to Spooky’s channel, or is there another way?

EDIT: Just found out my European debit card isn’t supported by PayPal. BUGGER!

spooby plz hawlp

wish him the best

top quality shit.

is he gonna go to g4 with G00t3ckz

well there you go, Spooky snubbed of an award at EVO…

Didn’t he get the Canon Award last year? I don’t think they give them to repeat people do they?

This is nuts. I took a long break from fighting games (due to work and school) for almost 6 months, and I come back to find out that quite a bit has changed. Seth Killian leaving capcom, Gootecks leaving CC, Spooky apparently quitting streaming (however I just read that he will be streaming, but among many things now, if I read that right?).

I feel like I took spooky’s work for granted. I watched his streams all the time, but never once thought about the amount of work and time involved. I’ll definitely donate as much as I can to the guy asap. Spooky definitely deserves it.

Gootecks is actually returning to CC.

He is Zombie Gootecks now.
