I definitely wanna level up some more in Marvel, but tournaments would be a lot of fun.

worse at sf now since i haven’t played since the last time i went to paincake’s like a month ago, and i have a whole 2 hours of marvel under my belt so that’s a no-go, been too busy with homework. 
We’ve talked about the possibilities of tournaments (or at least Mike and I discussed it at one point). It’s definitely possible but we’re sitting at around 10-12 players total. That means we have to run a 16-man bracket and we run into the situation of having 4-6 players getting first round byes. How would we determine who gets the bye?
You could make it random, but then you run the risk of something getting screwed and never getting a bye and someone else always getting a bye. You could try some sort of seeding method but this involves another process in determining that seeding. Or you could rotate the players who get a bye each tournament, but then you have to figure out with new players, or players who can’t make it to that tournament, etc…either way it just seems like that would be hard to ensure fairness.
I’m not trying to be discouraging and I’m sure we’ll rarely actually fill the brackets 100%, but this is just something that would have to be figured out. Tony, maybe you have some insight since you’ve ran some tournaments before. Maybe I’m overthinking this it’s really not a big deal :tup:
I don’t know how much I’ll stick with MvC3 honestly so I would likely just stick to casuals and not put any money on the line. It’s hard to say though, still barely had a chance to touch the game! I just keep hearing about all this Sentinel and level 3 X-Factor BS and I’m worried that once I expose myself to competitive play I’m going to lose interest pretty quick.
That, and the amount of time I can devote to games is very little. I’ve put a LOT of time into SF4 over the last couple years and if I tried to put the same commitment to MvC3 I think I would just become mediocre at both games 
there are a bunch of ways around that - for now we just do one big round robbin tournament to seed people and then in the future the byes and general seeding is based on that - quick simple fix 
i’ll try to get my smasher friends to come to it as well - if we can fill a 16 man bracket i’ll just do it randomly and we’ll see how that goes
Well, I finally decided to hop onto MvC3 online last night. I thought I would get rocked but won 4-5 player matches in a row before deciding to try ranked, and had a decent record there (7-2 I believe).
…but then once I hit 2 Stars (Fighter I think?) they were throwing opponents at me that were waaaay above my skill level.
To sum up this experience: Sentinal can eat a dick. Wesker too.
EDIT: I’ll add a positive spin though. I’ll keep at it. I did have a few extremely close matches where I would barely win by a time-out or make a big level 3 X-factor comeback that got me pretty damn excited.
Level 3 X-factor is REDONKULOUS.
Rocket Punch hahaha, you just have to rush the hell out of him or keep away. Of course I’m one those assholes that uses him as a main so I know whats beating me online. What I can say about the game is it is garbage. Ok but for reals the game will level out over time. Mvc2 was the same way, people kept finding shit, then people kept finding shit around that shit. Thats why the game is still played today.

also - how would people feel if I found a decent venue and ran a tournament that was ssf4 and marvel - had a like $5/10 entry fee and entered you in BOTH tournaments automatically? I feel like people aren’t necessarily willing to support the game that isn’t currently “their game” you get me?

I see where you’re coming from but it’s hard to see half my money go into a pot I know is forfeit versus putting all my money into a pot that I *may *have a chance of breaking top 3 in.
Do you have some venues in mind? I was hunting for one last summer and was having difficulty selling this idea. Hastings on Sullivan/Sprague was the only place to show some interest but even then the manager left me high and dry. I was trying to find one in the Valley or maybe between the Valley and Downtown Spokane. Since we had people coming from both directions that would be a decent middle point.
For Hastings I had a make a whole write-up detailing what my plans were so if we need to pitch this somewhere else we at least have a proposal template.

I’ve been having issues beating any competent sentinel too. Ammy rushdown with DF pendulum backing me up seems to work fairly well until he pops lvl 3 xfactor and kills my hsien ko in one hit.
LOL I like that I can super armor battle him with hulk but he’s pretty dumb. Why s has HYPER ARMOR which absorbs endkesrs attacks instead of basic super armor I have no idea.
Also I don’t understand why capcim liked pairing best health with vest damage. Oh well I can deal. Random bad sentinels just get eaten up be hyper charging star for days.

I messed around in Mission mode for an hour and a half just trying all the characters (got most through mission 8 or so) to see who gels with me. I think I might have to give Spencer an honest try.

I’ll find a venue - no worries on that. Starting looking now… I might be able to just use Eastern because I go here - if it’s a larger tournament i’m sure people would be willing to drive to Cheney - if I can’t do it here or people would prefer a spokane area I have a small plan for that too
I really think it would be awesome for our scene and help us all level up a lot if we got tournaments going. I know I would have no chance of winning in either SSF4 or Marvel, but I think it would be an awesome experience.
