Pushblock question ? I noticed you pushblock a lot. Can you share some tips on doing it safely. Do you always doit on reaction or there are guesses worth pursuing with PB? And I mean with Cable as well.
Also, I would love if you can do a thread like this for Cable too.
What are good ways to escape against someone that does the Spiral/Sent trap repeatedly. And what if they adjust their throwing knives timing to prevent guard cancels?
This is mainly for Cable, but it?s a Ducvader trademark as well:
I am learning to do AHVB in the middle of HSF to kill Sentinel. This is really good against Sent alone or Sent + Mag assist, but it seems impossible against Sent calling Storm. If Sent does HP + Storm, (RP), HSF the pushblock apparently lasts more and Storm gives no room for Cable to AHVB. Do you know any way to get around it?
Watched the new evo vids preppy put up…Nice push blocking Duc in that match vs Nanboi.
Noticed you did sj to meet sent and comboed 5 swords (5:36) -
any special technique to getting the swords out so fast ? (at first geuss I thought maybe mashing across both punches till I realised Hp would come out).
Your really short changing spiral and strider - spiral has no anti air, sent doesn’t have anti air and cant do easy fast fly combos and strider loses alot of chipping ability/block stun without having Doom.
Strider/cable/Doom is viable I geuss - seen Eddie Lee use it in vids - personally don’t like spiral without sent - loses too many options.
I have the worst time with santhrax any pointers? What about a Mirrored spiral Team? Which is a better team member to replace Spiral/Sent/CC or S/S/Cyclops? What are the spiral teams to use to counter say… MsP, Mss, Scrub, Santhrax, Combofiend, Rowtron? Any help would be Awesome! MotherF&*Ken Dream Thread!!! Mad Props DUC!
Santhrax gives a lot of teams problems. The reason why its not an easy task to beat that team is due to the contant semi free chipping storm would get off of you from hail - they hell a lot in order to keep the lead. Your main goal is to keep her grounded by throwing 1 or 2 swords in the air (via normal jump or sj into drop move) before she lands only after she has exhausted her air dash and lighting attack. Follow the those 1 or 2 knives with the rest of your knives and sent assist (you can call sent assist during normal jump and you can call him when you do the drop move). If you have knives and a storm is coming in on you - then do the circle knives and watch what they do. If they take the hit then do the raise the roof grab move - if they block then reload knives call sent assist and throw a lot of your knives at your opponent and reload again. Learn to back dash with spiral to the point where you will always be out of reach when they are dashing in - if you can do this then you will be able to throw your knives and sent assist and keep them grounded. Get them to go after you - if they don’t go after you learn to be patient and wait for the opportunity.
Keep storm out and always watch for hail - throw knives as fast as you can and only do the trap a few times for momentum. You want to keep your lead and try to exhaust them instead of them doing it to you which is their goal… that and to get a hit off of you so they can dhc to sentinel. If storm does hail and you can teleport - go ahead and teleport but be ready for cross ups.
I think Spiral sent commando is better than cyclops - it really depends on who you are stronger with. The team I use to counter MsP, Mss, Scrub, Santhrax, Combofiend, Rowtron is team duc most of the time. Sometimes if you want to you can use spiral/sent commando against msp but that’s probably about it.
I have experimented with cyclops and the only thing I have found him to be good for is the disruption of supers. Its amazing how fast he can cut down a hvB or a Hail storm. Its all about timing and I have had my fair share of comebacks with cyclops too. I do think commando is good for the third character. But otherwise I usually use DUC. YOU DA MAN!!! What you said makes perfect sense. THANX! What exactly does the move do when your doing the trap and you do that little pop with spiral to bring her back down and keep her grounded. I have noticed that it does speed her up alittle for the trap however does it go away when I get hit? Which is a good teleport for when storm hails? What about a good Knockout character combo with spiral? I am a very avid New Mexico Player and I just love the concept for your team. I have to say that before I saw how your team worked I was gonna give up on marvel because I hate infinites with a passion. Straight up Cheezy in my opinion but a trap is different. :O) I know dozens of people that have been playing less time than I have that can learn that shit in a minute and then walk in to tournaments like they own something. Its boring But you have given me hope and kept this game fun. /bow to you DUC! Ill keepin repping DUC In the southwest! 505 Baby!
Thanks for the props - If I understand you correctly… are you asking me what the fast drop move does for you? The drop basically puts you into normal jump mode which allows you to call an assist. A good time to do this is when you throw a few knives that you know will make your opponent block in the air when they are coming down followed by the drop move then sent assist followed by the rest of your knives then reload and start the trap. The drop does not speed up your knife recovery - its the same for all reloads. Wouldn’t it be nice that it does speed up the reload time? Maybe it does - I’m not sure but I really don’t notice it. When a storm hails you want to teleport the instant a rock is about to get to you then hold either LP or HP to position yourself a little higher which will allow the rocks to pass right through you. Knock out character combo? do you mean something that you can do that will bring in your second character and count as a combo? well what I would do is dash in lk, lk, hk wait a sec lp, lp, lp, lp+lk
if you do this correctly you will combo in your next character and allow them to do a combo while your opponent is in the air. Comboing in a cable with 5 meters is very appealing to me -

The point of pushblocking is to prevent your opponent from getting close to you and to allow you to be able to move after a pushblock. I normally pushblock high moves so I don’t have to deal with low attacks from characters that have very fast high lows. Only PB for an advantage or to get out of certain situations like HSF etc…
Also, I would love if you can do a thread like this for Cable too.

Pushblock and mash the sj is what most people do. Your main goal should be to stick close to spiral and not let her get out the knives. If she starts the trap on you and you can’t jump out then you can alpha counter into someone that will disrupt the trap - doing this can disrupt your opponents momentum and allow you to go back to sticking close to spiral to keep her from reloading knives.

Not sure - I haven’t experimented with this yet. It probably is possible to do it - I’m not sure -
It does not work. For some reason, Cable does not get “free” from the GC at the usual tome when the typhoon is on screen. Like, if you do the GC and let go of the stick, instead of him getting hit by the typhoon he will still be blocking it. Something about the typhoon being on screen delays the timing for the GC.
Hey DUC! Do you have any snapback combos to try out? How do you keep sentinel off you when they are trying to chain stomp? I ve been experimenting against team scrub and the best way to get around commando is to teleport behind them right as you see commando coming in for the assist. It sets you up for the dirtiest crossup ever! Teleport and then hold lk or hk depending on screen advantage. Just fyi!
Hey Duc, appreciate your help on the community. Got 1 question and a off-topic one.
I see alot in your matches you quickly dash forward for 2 standing quick jabs usually when your getting rushed down by magz or storm, even though you have no swords popped up. On paper it sounds suicidal but I see you consistently land those hits. Just wonderin if you just randomly go for it when u think you can catch them off guard? or after they use their assist.
And sorry this is off-topic but what stick did you use for evo? was it a mas? and what parts did you choose. Just wondering cause it will help me decide what worked best for you.
Missing one dancing sword call could turn the match. And at my local arcade I can barely call the swords since the sticks are so worn down. I need to order a stick.
Spirals not really a character with some crazy combos like mag or storm. If you want to do some snap back combos you can do tigerknee knives when they come in and do standing jab jab snap or call sent right before grabbing them and don’t mash - once the drones hit you can snap them out that way too. I like to do lk lk snap combos.

Spiral standing lp lp is really good against people. I would once in a while use it to give me more time to think of what to do next. Most of the time its to give time to your assist to disappear so you can call them again. Although knives are good for spiral - you want to learn how to play with her without knives too.

I used a mas stick with convex buttons. I don’t have that anymore - I now have a sit down stick with convex buttons with WICO 360. Everyone that has used it thinks its GDLK.
Is there any effective or even flashy combos to do with sent on point with spiral assist (proj) ?
I can’t seem to connect a fast-fly with sent seems like the swords take to long to come out after I hit them with the pan. I know your throw in the opposite direction while calling spiral assist works nice. Any others?
You can do this launch - lk lp, fly lk +spiral assist, RP, lk HP, rp. Doing this combo will allow you to do 84 points of damage. There’s no real need to be flashy - I like to stick to basics but if you can win with flashiness - go for it.
I usually use Spira/Cable/Sent and my problem is that Spiral dies waaay to fast. Do you have a pointers on keeping her alive? Once I just get past the initial coming onslaught of being combo’d and otg’d. I usually can hold my own but I’m at such a disadvantage the fights already over.
The point isn’t neccasarily to trap em, be ready to block alot and wait for openings.
Especially w/ Magnus, since his rushdown does not chip, you can block all you want just be ready to shift your block.
Knives are a tool, not a weapon. Use em to gain horizontal control, don’t use em too offensively.
You don’t need to teleport all over the place, you don’t need to poke, you don’t need to constantly sjump or build super, just play it simple and be patient.
Don’t predict, react.
Duc is the shit w/ Spiral, but he plays simple and wins.
Being to fancy or difficult puts a lot of unneccasary stress on the player.
