Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

This is my first week with Viper. I was originally using Vergil/Frank/Wesker or Zero/Vergil/Wesker, so I wanted to see who would work well with her. So far I have chosen to use Viper/Vergil/Frank because of the damage and I can bring in lvl 4 Frank fairly easily.

This video shows how easy it is to kill a character, or bring in a lvl 4 frank if your opponent hasn’t died yet. Vergils lunar phase groundbounce gives frank more than enough time to take a picture if he is raw tagged in. Since I have never played against anyone with Viper yet, I don’t know how good this team is.

How the fuck do yall fight Dante? Goddamn stinger xx reverb and rebellion beating everything I do is sooo annoying. It also doesn’t help that he has stupid ass Akuma assist.

If they are abusing tools like that, it means that you can start abusing Focus>EX Seismo. Akuma assist does make things harder though.

Also, you could probably keep him further away from you too.

Hmm how would you suggest I do that? I still don’t have proper seismo placement down and cant do rapid seismo’s consistently enough to my liking. Akuma assist also rapes Taskmaster’s arrows and usually hurts Taskmaster.

Well, pretty much just Seismo. Akuma cause problems for Seismo though… :(. Focus>EX is still a general problem for dante though, abuse it.

hmm pretty sure optic laser blows up tastu assist and if dante is close and you don’t think the blast will hit him because he’s too low
you can ex seismo cancel the blast after it’s out if you’re affraid dante will be able to catch you

i also think ex tk would beat both too but i don’t know how reliable that is

Tatsu eats the laser. :frowning:

how do you guys fight morrigans when soul fist is flying everywhere im so free to her its not even funny.

Morrigan is hard for me to fight also I usually switch out to a better match up with one of my other teammates

With Viper i have tons of experience in this match-up. The good thing about morrigan is she has little to no way to get to you if you just play it safe and play patient.

I usually dodge crap fireballs she throws and charge up a laser or wait for her to get into seismo range. Throwing Morrigan is dangerous in this match-up just because she can make herself safe or throw out j.H or j.S so fast. You just got to be patient. Dodge her slow fireballs and approach. Morrigan has great air mobility and can be a pain for Viper, but Viper can be just as of much as a pain back as Morrigan can by just dodging the crap out of the spamfest, avoiding her approach and placing a seismo here and there. Sure it will take a while but you can chip her down or get her down before she can to you. Oh yeah and if you have Vajra assist that will make Morrigan think twice about using fireballs. This basically makes her have to play low or constantly think and this will give Viper an advantage.

You should post some of your matches I seen you on peaceful jay stream . I have a bad habit of tridashing to get in then i just get melted by soul fist.

god i get on there rarely. I was on there yesterday because someone invited me. Played like trash too lol. If I get a chance to play with my friend again who plays him I’ll record it. Just dont tri dash in. Just try and keep them within 3/4 screen and when they come down (and they will) seismo them accordingly.

gottnoskill, many props for your new combo + reset video. i learned a lot of new things, confirmed some of my speculations about her hitstun, etc. im very grateful!

as for the mid-air bk feint reset, can the opponent mash throw before viper gets her air H out?

They have to be teching back and time the throw to catch Viper out of her j.H on the reset. When they tech viper will be under them momentarily before you double jump back the other way into throw range. It happens so fast though that it could possibly be mashed. I don’t think it would work 100% of the time but definitely work some of the time.

Cross-under + Vajra Resets are fun too… and easy to set up. You can make it more confusing by using A and M TK. Because of how Viper poses during the different TK’s it can affect whether or not Vajra crosses them up.

The whole story is below the paragraph, but for the sake of TL;DR, I don’t want anyone to have to quote my whole story just to provide an answer, so the following is what I call the Quotable, which you will probably find to be self-explanatory:

My team is, in order: Viper (Burning Kick) || Dormammu (Purification) || Felicia (Cat Spike)
Based on my team and assists, could my Viper be a viable point? She doesn’t have a beam assist, which most have agreed is her best bet, but she does have an unblockable setup with incoming characters by using Purification before they come in to force block while she holds a Focus. Felicia ground bounces on a Seismo OTG, since no one else uses ground bounces on my team. If I wanted to be competitive, does my team have a shot at being viable?

-------------------------------------endquote------------------------------------------------------

Alright, at first, I didn’t wanna ask, but I guess this is the thread to ask questions on, so… may as well do it while people still have interest in helping, right? Heh…

Well, anyway… I’ve been using Viper/Dormammu/Felicia since day 1 Vanilla. I never really got into the details of the game, didn’t care about tournaments at all… just wanted to beat the brakes off all my friends. I’ve been a fan of Viper since her debut in SF, and a fan of Felicia since I first saw her in MVC2. I’ve been a fan of Dormammu since–

Okay, none of that is relevant, I’ll get to the point.

About a month ago, a friend and I got into some really tricky battles (he uses Zero/Wolverine/Spencer), but I always manage to come out on top. I have a touch-of-death combo for Zero (one bar) and Wolvie (2 bar, using DHC). I usually DHC into Stalking Flare to kill Zero because of how Zero dies – his body goes poof, Flare doesn’t drift back to the floor, and I can hardtag back to Viper in time to charge Focus and call Dormammu’s assist (I use Purification) just before Wolvie comes out. With that setup, if he blocks Puri, he gets focused and launched into Flare, and if he doesn’t block, he gets Puri’d into Flare anyway. I use Felicia for combo extension with Cat Spike assist, because no one on my team uses a ground bounce except for Felicia herself. I don’t lose combo potential by having it, and it makes for a VERY easy level 3 Viper hyper.

It wasn’t until I decided I wanted to make my Viper scarier and more threatening that I really decided to look into extending my combos, or adding that extra damage, just enough to TOD a 1.1m character with two bars… it’s a stretch for me, as I haven’t practiced anything beyond TK cancels, but I’m willing to die in the lab if it means I can kill off of one punch. So I went through the 33 pages and realized that you guys actually help with the teams people have!

Well, I’ve been trying to find proper synergy with my team, but the one thing I took away is that an assist should have one of two things:

1: The ability to set up an unblockable.
2: A beam.

Considering my team kind of doesn’t have an effective method of beaming, I guess my only real question is, should I change my team? I’d really love to make my team work, but if I have to make a cut to preserve the effectiveness of Viper, I guess I can settle for that… as long as it’s not a widely popular character, that is. I kind of don’t like mirror match-ups, which I’ve never had… though someone took my Viper/Dormammu team after I told them about my wonderful symmetry with the Puri/Focus/Flare safety thing… sigh

Hello. well that a pretty awesome team. I like those characters as well, however I think if you are open to changing characters it might be in your best interest to do so. I think you can keep either felica or Dormammu. With Felicia I would suggest switching ti low buckler though for unblockables. Also using Purificaition assist what combo do you have for Viper.

I think if you switch out Dormammu, Jam Session would be a good replacement assist as it allows a really cool combo ender, covers Vipers blindspot, and gives her access to an unblockable. If you can get a combo with Purification please let me know lol. So you can go with Viper(Burn Kick)/Dante(Jam Session)/Felica(Rolling Buckler). You also get some really cool teleport unblockables with Dante and Felica so I can see this being a strong team. You can also go with Doom Hidden Missiles. And thats very strong for both Viper and Felicia. So you can try Viper(Burn Kick)/Felicia(Low Buckler)/Doom(Hidden Missiles). I think it was shady K but he showed some pretty cool tech with Felicia and Hidden Missiles. So this is another really strong team. You can get a relaunch for Viper, an unblockable and a pretty good method to approach for both characters. Those are just some suggestions im sure you can find some others but I think Hidden Missiles or Jam Session are pretty good replacements if you replace Dormammu.

Now if you replace Felicia you have some more options here. The obvious ones are Dr. Doom and Magneto. It depends on what you want here. Plasma Beam gives access to both a thunder knuckle loop and a relaunch but disruptor is really fast. So these beams are good and they allow for teleport mixups and other stuff for Dormammu. Some other characters that might help you out are taskmaster or hawkeye. Hawkeye arrows are faster but Taskmaster arrows come with taskmaster which is awesome lol. Im also sure Rocket Racoon’s log trap or double shot and Arthur’s dagger assist would work. Im just not sure how good they are so I cant say much about them. Also theres Sentinel drones which are badass. They allow for relaunches, unblockables, and lock your opponents down for a good amount of time.

So I think your team is strong but requires more effort to win the reason people want a beam is because its nice for horizontal coverage and makes playing Viper a bit easier. So yea i think two outta three can make a good combination such as Viper/Felicia or Viper/Dormammu, but I think to make your team stronger you might want something that helps put shit on the screen.

My team noodleing continues.

I am currently using:

Viper/Strider/Ammy

This team is unbelievable cheap. The level of bullshit that Strider and Viper can put out with Ammy backing them up is unreal. Plus, I think that cold star is much easier to implement in neutral then Drones. I just had to adjust how I went about my hitconfirms so I didn’t burn all my proration at the beginning of the combo.

Now all I need to do is learn some ammy.

Also, if any of you were still using Viper/Rocket. I’ll have a present for you in the near future.

I started putting Ammy on my team as well, dat assist. I’ve been trying to learn morrigan too, still trying to find a way she can work better with Viper.

Not that I’ve tried, but I bet you could:

Call Purification > R.Sei[L(Purification hits)L] xx.SJC.xx L.BK

After that you should be able to either relaunch with S or just use it as an ender and go into Burst Time. All theory of course, but yeah. Could give it a shot.
