Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

thanks. I like how this is posted in the Viper forums lol. BUt this is awesome.

So I held my first session today and tried these two Viper/Jill teams:
Jill(Arrow Kick), C. Viper(Siesmo), Dr. Doom(Molecular Shield)
Jill(Arrow Kick), C. Viper(Seismo), Amaterasu(Cold Star).

As expected I lost alot and had to resort to my main team: Trish(Low Voltage), C. Viper(Seismo), Sentinel(Drones).

But out of the first two Jill/Viper teams I liked the one with Doom alot better. Molecular Shield seemed to be a really solid assist for both Jill and Viper. I also felt confidence in my Viper game when Jill died and vice versa. I think im gona try to learn Jill/Viper/Doom now.

Jill/Dante isn’t bad either, and we know how much Viper and Dante like each other.

Vid is posted in the Jill forums too, but that place is a wasteland.

not to be rude but you are right. I went there to look for info and it was kinda hard. Dante looks interesting but I cant remember all his moves. Besides literally all my friends at school whom I play with now have dante on their team lol. I wana bring some character diversity haha and doom is fun to use

It’s all part of my quest to make the front page of something!

If you want flashy, you could try one of my squads, they are pretty advanced and smexy to watch:

Viper/IM/Dante
Jill/Doom/Wesker
Spencer/MODOK/Sentinel

Oh yeah, if you had any Jill questions, feel free to ask me. I know the subforum is kinda meh…

I really enjoyed the video I never thought jill viper would be viable, but its got alot of possibilities.

We know all of his assists, they are the berserker slash style thing, his uppercut (no invul though) and the light version of his judgement cut (where he summons projectile style swords at one place on the screen and they stay there for a while, seems a bit like dorm dark hole). We also know that devil trigger powers up his special moves significantly, so activating DT and tagging him out may be a nice idea, just like zero in sougenmu. Can’t wait to play around with him.

what about iron fists assists. if he has that kick thing it might work. He also might get a benefit from Viper’s Burn Kick. hopefully in the offensive stance he can maybe use it to his advantage. Also im thinking if Iron Fist has that kick maybe itll wall bounce and you can do something with it

It’ll just be a crappy version of Jill’s.

6 frames to invincibility on a Focus attack. Been thinking about spamming it between dashes and moves to see if it will work against offensive heavy opponents. Very curious as to where I can get with it. Been working on being able to roll a focus attack out into anything from immediate SJ, any other dash and into normals or special moves. So yeah my viper play will suck for a while but it will be a good learning experience

If only there were a good way to buffer up the JCC DP motion.

JCC?

Jump Cancel Cancel, it’s how you do the rapid Seismos, pretty much the same as a Jump Install.

I can buffer it up pretty good now. Just doing DP FA DP its basically… 623A 282ATK+S 623A The extra 2 within the SJ allows you to easily roll back into the DP motion instead of doing it from the 8 position which could get you to jump.

I can get it out fast enough to where every seismo is now a frame trap. you get about 3-5 frames of movement before the next seismo hits. Can be mashed through if close but just out of range of any cr.L you’ll be fine.

also any tips on chaining seismos. for some reason its really hard for me to do so when im on the right side

Don’t let the stick return to neutral. That’s usually what gets people.

Vergil looks awesome, I cant wait to try him with Viper. His berserker slash assist looks like his best so far.

So, I’m currently running a team of Dante/Magneto/Viper. I have a few (lots of) questions about assists, character order, and possibly a character swap.

I’ll start with the character swap.

Now, to start, I want to point out that this is my “investment” team. I put characters in that have a lot of execution-heavy but effective tech, so I can learn the stuff, show off, but also, in the long run, actually have a really good, impressive team with me should I get good enough with them. Here’s the general idea behind that:

Dante is good overall, but his gameplay greatly benefits from high execution, as opposed to someone like wesker or wolverine who does not get as much from a high-execution player. His gun loop is great for gaining meter, and he can do all sorts of crazy stuff with his jump cancel techs, etc to maximize damage. He works great with Magneto due to the DHC trick, but considering the long-term nature of this team, it may be pointless to consider that due to the impending take over of UMvC3.

C. Viper is a great character who is basically worthless until the player aquires a certain degree of execution ability. Her crazy techs and stupid combos are rediculous, and how well she does despite no one (yet) fully and efficiently taking advantage of all her crazy tech (especially that new FADC shit, have you seen that? wtf?). She can suck up a lot of meter, but considering that I have two battery characters on the team, I don’t think it’s too much of a problem.

But, and I’m sure some would agree with me, I’m not so sure people would consider Magneto an execution heavy character. One side of me says that his incredibly long neverending combos require a different sort of “stamina” execution, due to their longevity. However, another part of me sort of throws that to the side, and questions whether he really belongs here. In the end, however, this is about making a team that will really pay off, not one full of crazy execution characters.

So, as far as the character switch goes, I’m thinking about swapping Magneto out for Ammy. While ammy isn’t exactly a combo fiend herself, I do get the sense that she just would work for the team. I am forced to consider the options:

Keep Mags.
Pros: Amazing battery character with long, damaging combos. Beam assist would be great for approach, especially for viper, and gives dante a keep-away game. Having 3 potential point characters allows me to change up team order for advantage in many situations.
Cons: The beam’s low blockstun makes it difficult to use for lockdowns, something that viper could really use.

Take up Ammy.
Pros: Strong, versitile character that covers several of Viper’s bad matchups. Cold star assist is BEAST and would be amazing for viper’s lockdowns, and is just overall an amazing assist.
Cons: Lacking a beam assist is going to make approach more difficult. I’d also be losing my primary battery. Her shit health also doesn’t help. She’s also not a very good point character like magneto, making my team less versitile when it comes to switching up order.

So, help me with that, please?

Next, I want to talk about assists.

Currently, the team assists are as follows:

Dante: Crystal
Mags: Disruptah
Viper: Burn kick

Now, my issue here is that I’m not sure where I should be keeping my priorities.

For Dante, the more common assist is Jam Session. It’s significantly faster, but I just feel like I need a lock-down assist, and while slow, Crystal does have a lot of blockstun. But at the same time, I get the feeling that it just may not be worth throwing away such a good fast mid range assist. Were I to switch mags with Ammy, I would DEFINITELY switch to Jam Session, since cold star takes care of lockdown like no other. But assuming I stick with this team, was I right to pick crystals, or is Jam Session worth it?

Magneto is a non-issue, if he’s staying on the team, he has the beam. I see no valid reason to choose any of his other assists, but if you think you do, feel free to point it out.

For viper, it’s a tossup between all of them. Burn kick’s high-hit is very alluring, and is the reason I have it on currently. Long-ranged unblockables with mags cr.H or Dante’s cr.M just seem so cool, but I can’t help but feel I’m sacrificing some potentially fruitful opportunities. Seismo could be good for combo-extensions, but then I’m not sure if my team needs it. The big question for me is the TK assist, which, while not very useful in combos or for approach/preassure, can be occasionally used as a surprise anti-air, and make crossover counters VERY useful, especially since you can cancel the move as you could if she were using it normally on point, allowing her a free combo. So which should I go for? TK for crossover shenanigans and anti-air, or BK for high-low mixups and unblockables?

The last issue is team order. I honestly don’t think it’s much of an issue, but I’ve considered switching mags to the front. To be completely honest, all of these characters are used regularly as point characters, so it gives a really nice advantage in that I can switch up my order before a match depending on match-ups without severely effecting flow or team synergy.

And that’s my super long post. I hope you’re actually willing to read it. =D

Put Viper first and the other two in whatever order you prefer (I like Viper/Mag/Dante).

But Dante on Jam Session, Viper is good, but Viper+Jam Session is outright broken.

I appreciate the response, but I’m not one to blindly take advice because someone said it. Would you care to go into more detail/explain why you think this would be best?

Also, synopsis of the team? I didn’t pick them because they’re “my characters”, I picked them because I thought the synergy was good. Would you agree? And what do you think of throwing ammy in there?

Ammy can work, MarlinPie plays Viper/Magnus/Ammy.

I would explain it, but we’ve actually been over why this order and those assists, and those characters work so well many times already, so just check earlier in the thread. Not trying to be a dick, I’ve just typed that response several times already.

Very short version:
Viper is a point character through and though, and the best battery in the game (tied with Magnus)
EM Distrupor assist gives viper a scary zoning game and makes the opponent hesitate to do crap. Lets you do a meterless relaunch in your combos.
Jam Session is an amazing combo ender, covers Viper’s Blind spot, and can set up focus traps and snap setups. Plus is an amazing assist al arround.
Magneto before Dante for DHC glitch.

I use IM instead of Magnus, but he fill the same roll on the team.
