Now that I’m awake some stuff from my normal weekend session.
I went to Keystone II’s Bar and Grill tournament and took second in Marvel to F-Champ. He’s the one who sent me to losers and eliminated me from the tournament as per normal =/.
After expending all my energy there I didn’t feel like putting the effort into playing Viper as me dropping things was aggravating after the loss which always drives me insane but since this was a larger tourney than Starbase I was more drained than normal and just felt like doing easy mode battles 90% of the rest of the weekend. Here are some random things with the scrubby characters I was using.
Dante (Primarily with Magneto, Dormammu, Haggar and Chris assists) : It’s possible to volcano jump cancel assist summon teleport cancel for some incredibly dirty things in an offensive maneuver, always possible even on advance guard after a mid range Stinger. I’m doing gun loops now if I hit someone anti-air by doing jump C into killer bee, back dash S to start it off, I thought this would be hard since Dante players say it is, but it’s really not that bad. Stinger, reverb shock devil trigger is stupid good and I was hitting some combos off of it. People still don’t give enough respect to either hammer or standing B. I feel his spot for second best in the game may not be as secure as I thought…
Wesker (Primarily with Magneto, Sentinel, Haggar, and Dormammu assists) : This character is ridiculously easy to play, at Keystone when I didn’t want to play my team any more I was mirror matching people a lot and if they had Wesker on their team I would win. He’s pretty much like playing Wolverine except without the glaring zoning weaknesses, his mix up also can be set up without gauge safely at way too many ranges with EM disruptor which simply gives you a combo a large majority of the time and even better can be used to punish a lot of things that really shouldn’t be punishable, EM disruptor hitting before gun also lets Wesker get a full combo on what had been a standing opponent.
Sentinel (Primarily Haggar, Wesker, and Magneto assists) : I actually really like his normals right now jump B is awesome. I think 90% of my hits are counterpoking since my Sent mix up is very minimal when I don’t have Wesker assist. Viper + drones is exceptionally silly if you have good zoning, I had a match where I did nothing but seismo and drones to victory. Sentinel’s DHC glitch in makes me feel like a scrub.
Magneto (Primarily with Dormammu, Viper, Sentinel, and Wesker assists) : He may be as good as Dante, he covers certain angles better than any other character and now that I can powder slap into DHC glitch with him I was killing unpatched Sentinel in one touch around 30% of the time (I’m still not solid with that combo yet) People need to use Magnetic blast more, if he has drones on screen and a Magnetic blast you can create a lot of really weird situations. Everything hit confirms into death thanks to the glitch, it’s really quite stupid. You can get some really stupid things set up by forcing someone to block a dark hole when they’re just off the ground, if they pushblock you get a ridiculous throw left right mix up that’s incredibly difficult to deal with.
Dormammu (Primarily with Wesker and Magneto assists) : I played a lot of team Masta CJ and it was really fun albeit incredibly easy. Dormammu is a really good character against pretty much every character who isn’t Viper/Dante/Mags/Wesker/Dog. Against Viper he’s hopeless and even when Champ plays me he makes sure that Magneto has to kill my Viper if Dormammu’s next cause that fight is so miserable despite him being a better player. Dorm’s hitboxes are stupid, his meteors are incredibly stupid and in XF3 you can charge up more meteors during the time meteors fall. --; his normals do far too much damage so just basic B, B, C, S combos with Wesker/Viper relaunches kills the dog, Akuma etc.
Viper (Not played a ton this weekend, but done primarily with Dante and Magneto assists) : She’s harder than all of the above characters to use, but in the rare circumstances I’m not dropping execution I feel that she’s also entirely better than them, the gap between her and Dante/Magneto is fairly large. There are some matches I play where even though I screw up just the fact that Viper exists did 75% damage to a character because seismic hammer is stupid and chips far too much. I miss my horizontal arrows assist, it made it easier to hit confirm into a kill off of really weird situations, but now I can confirm into kills off of a lot more air to air than I used to. I don’t use focus into EX seismo enough and alternatively random EX thunderknuckle when I have 3 or more gauges. EX thunderknuckle is amazing and the block stun is long enough to visually confirm whether you need to cancel it into an EX seismo for safety, EX burn kick for overhead, or nothing on hit. Dark hole is actually really good for Viper though I’m debating about trying her with purification assist to check if it viably works to deal with the area that normally uses Jam session. The issue is on hit they get popped way higher with purification with far less time to hit confirm than Jam session.
