Spider-Man And Secret Wars? Oooookay…
Its funny that people generally haven’t liked ASM 601 due to the talking and no action, I expected, and actually felt it was necessary, you don’t go from Norman Osborn to Doc Ock to Mary Jane without a break somewhere.
I mean c’mon can’t we just be happy Pete finally got some?
I don’t read comic books for sex. I read comics books for action and artwork. That’s the one thing I always hate about Spider-Man. He’s a borderline genius who can pick up a car with one hand but he’s worried about paying the rent and getting a job. Such a waste of time in the storylines that frankly the comics can do without.
Luckily there wasn’t (and never really is) any sex in this comic. Just an implied, but never confirmed, instance.
So the one thing you hate about Spider-Man is the one thing that’s pretty much the entire essence of the character and company as a whole?
If you read comics for “action and artwork”, I recommend Hulk, Ultimates 3, and Ultimatum by a Mr. Jeph Loeb.
It’s funny. You say that like it’s a positive or something. That’s probably why most Marvel Comics suck nowadays. Too much talking and not enough action. Too much chatter and not enough shatter. That hasn’t been the case with Amazing Spider-Man recently. I just don’t want them falling back into bad habits.
“With great power comes great responsibility” doesn’t mean that someone has to live like a bum. Iron Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men are all heroes among others and they live good lives. Why can’t Spider-Man do the same. It’s one thing if he was a monk or something but he always seems to be complaining about it. After a couple of decades it gets kind of old.
It’s only what’s separated the character from the other superheroes of their time and helped to make him as popular as he is today.
Better to complain about nothing then?
Yes, let’s compare the common man superhero to a bunch of super scientists, millionaires and privately funded schools.
You think Spider-Man is popular because he scrapes to make a wage as a photographer? I think it’s because of the webs, costume, and the powers. Maybe more people would have watched the movie if they had scenes of him paying bills or something.
Nope.
The common man superhero? That’s an oxymoron. If you’re a genius you’re not a common man. If you can lift a car you’re no longer the common man. If you can get shot go to sleep and wake up as good as new you’re not a common man.
It’s not even about him being rich or anything but not being a bum. Didn’t Peter Parker used to be a teacher? Whatever happened with that? The funny thing is that he’s pretty much rich now but the comics will act like he’s not. He’ll still keep living like the pauper and people like you will eat it up because it makes him the “common man superhero”.
I think he’s popular because he’s identifiable with a shit ton more people than a billionaire playboy or a super scientist that’s always building dimensional portals.
Peter’s not a genius, though. It’s been stated many times before he’s a bright guy, but he’s no Tony Stark/Reed Richards. Not even close.
Contracting out his powers and efforts for financial gain is hardly adhering to “Great power = great responsibility.”
Yes, he’ll still keep being true to the core of his character, and people like me who enjoy reading about relateable heroes will keep reading the book.
And people like you will keep armchair quaterbacking stuff they don’t even read.
Slott talks about Spider-Man at the Chicago Comic Con.
What has been left in question, however, is whether or not Mary Jane now knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man ? a question Slott said would be addressed “Amazing Spider-Man” shortly. “When you read #601, it seems like MJ knows that Peter is Spider-Man,” he teased. "In #602 you will know for sure."
Hmm… :wonder:

I love the idea of her knowing and Peter not knowing that she knows.
Especially if she’s half playing along.
I hope that’s what they are doing. Parallel Lives all over again.
Spider-Man balloon returns to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Well a newer and more muscular version anyway. I remember signing a petition to bring it back a bunch of years ago. Say, anyone remember that ASM issue by Michelinie and McFarlane when two kids broke into a warehouse where the Spider-Man balloon was and they commented that the eyes were too small?

James Vanderbilt is writing the movie script for Spider-Man 5 and 6. 5 and 6? Man where’s 4 already? 2011 is so far away…
JQ talks about Spider-Man a lot below. About halfway through he starts talking about Hulk.
A bit torn on the new arc in ASM. It seems like a good Chameleon story but a bad Spider-Man story. I don’t read Spider-Man so I can think about terrorists or get depressed. The story needs more funny. JJJ had a few LOLs in the book but that’s it. Hopefully the tone will change drastically in the next issue. I’m not saying serious stories can’t be told in Spider-Man’s book (Kraven’s Last Hunt) but they need to be crafted a little better.
I still wish Dan Slott wrote every issue. A few more arcs like this one and I’ll go back to only reading his issues.
That issue was cool. Puny Flash. Puny puny Flash. That’s funny.
P.S. Spider-Man’s healing factor is stronger than ever.
Awesome cover for issue #4 of the new Clone Saga. Also breakdowns for the first 3 issues. Looks like they will reveal if Ben is a clone or not in issue 2! It’s sounding really good so far.
Weekly Webbing with Wacker is up.
Lots of Scarlet Spider pics.
Wow. After the Disney merger, Sony gave up the TV rights to Spider-Man. They still control the movies, just not the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. Hopefully Disney will give it a third season. They’d be stupid not to honestly.
Fairly good write up about the Marvel / Disney merger, only I think there’s a lot of worrying over nothing? Anyway skip ahead to the SNL video provided below. Very funny!
