But It’s A Bird… came out in like 2004. That’s way after Lois & Clark ended and probably right around the time Teri Hatcher was on Desperate Housewives. I think your sense of time is significantly askew.
Oh, waitasec… I gotcha. You’re talkin’ about The Greatest Comics Saga Of All Time, ain’tcha? (Or was it Second Greatest? I forget my own hyperbole.) Very funny, goody!!!
In honor of Sano, here is Steven Grant’s opinion on the OMD situation.
With the exception of Bru (moron), every comic writer seems to agree that the method Marvel used to axe the marriage was retarded. JMS story probably would have been better. Marvel’s one trump card of not screwing with continuity too much is forever flushed down the toilet. Wasn’t Joe Q criticizing DC for constantly screwing with continuity or just doing retcons in really bad ways? Guess he can’t talk anymore.
Hey, maxx, I’m writing an editorial on this whole mess. It OK if I use your “Retcon Gone Wrong”? I like how it sounds.
I don’t see any place where Brubaker said it was a “good story”. He’s repeatedly said “he doesn’t care how they got there”. Which to me is an acknowledgment that the story was bad, but he’s willing to let it go because he’s happy with the result.
He may not have said it specifically word for word but he is covering his ass just like anyone else would when it comes to something this controversial.
If you don’t know who Mad Goblin is, his site is pretty dope and I do agree with lots of the things he says. Course not everything LOL he needs to stop hating on Venom! His articles are really great, if you are a fan of Mary Jane and the marriage his three chapters on MJ is what I consider mandatory reading. Though yeah his stuff requires lots of reading man he does go on and on and on… Still pretty interesting for Spidey fans!
More on CNN. JQ really stretches the truth about public reaction to OMD, or does he? I dunno maybe he did get a lot of positive letters, I can’t claim that I’m reading his mail lol! In the article we can finally hear Stan Lee’s reaction.
I never thought this was a good idea but I seriously liked this issue. I guess this was the only way to turn things back to normal. It really sucks that this means that MayDay is no longer canon.
So yeah, webshooters and Harry Osborn. I need to know more about this universe that Mephisto has made up.
Bottomline it’s a comic book, I gave up on such nitpicking a long long time ago even the ones that i find ridiculous,
I personally don’t believe in divorce (or what it stands for at least) so I think i’d have hated that more… Although I personally loathe the way it was indeed ended.
however if it was me on the helm, it’s really simple…
I WOULD NOT END THE MARRIAGE, period.
Superhero characters are PERPETUITY characters, so it’s not an anime in which everything progresses to an absolute end, perpetuity characters are IMO meant best in a niche set-up (a set-up EVERYONE relates to, a la say archie) or if there are progressions, they will EVENTUALLY reach a niche setting.
Retcons are always messy, with that aside, I think this one had good intentions. Sure, OMD was a little cheesy and that comes with the media, but hopefully this has changed Spidey for the better. I’m already intrigued by Harry’s presence in the story. My only question is what of Spider-Man in the rest of the Marvel Universe? For example, his presence in New Avengers. I know Marvel can’t just yank Spidey out from under Bendis…but, will OMD be referenced at all?
