I love Haterade already. He is a tall glass of win. I hated reading the other replies, though. I think SRK is a lot better at discussing comics than they are. They get pretty anal.
Is the ol’ Canucklehead a Jay-Z fan? I like Nas more, but I couldn’t think of any of his lyrics I could adapt on the fly. Guess I got Ethered in the face.
The funny thing is, Spidey will just get help from Dr. Strange again. Or something stupid having to do with magic. Yeah, this is a shitty retcon. I can’t even think of a possible explanation as to how the current books are gonna deal with it. Someone kill me, please.
Sorry, dude, we need you on these boards to help keep the place lively so you gotta live. Dems the breaks.
Anyway, I think Joe Q was willing to go with crappy retcons and crappy writing, anything as long as Peter and MJ’s marriage would be no more because it hurts the books.
I honestly enjoyed OMD, even though I hated the outcome. What really irks me is not just Joe Q’s disgust for the marriage, but how he went about axing it. Is this worse than Superboy Prime retcon punch? Let’s see, Harry is back (WHY?!) and don’t get me started on all the plotholes we’re bound to run into. Oh, wait. Magic. Doesn’t need to be explained.
I wonder if Joe Q remembers when he said splitting Peter and MJ up “would only be worse.” Well, Joe in a few months or so, we’ll see how right you were by those words.
I don’t think it’s worse than Superboy-Prime punching continuity. It’s about the same. The method of changing/reverting the status quo is different, but it has a similar effect. The difference to me is that One More Day is just better crafted than any of the Crises comics. I think there’s also a chance that Amazing will be better than most of the DC books that spun out of Crisis.
Although now that I think about it, one big difference between Mephisto and Superboy-Prime is that DC tried way too hard to explain it all. All that multiverse bullshit and the pseudo-superscientific explanation about shattering fragments of reality - there was no real need for that. I would have been fine if they just left that sort of stuff unexplained.
At least with the “it’s magic and it doesn’t need to be explained” approach, it’s over and done with quickly. I know the whole point of was just to give Spider-Man a new status quo, so there was really no need to beat me over the head with a detailed explanation of how the magic works, because I don’t really care. I know that somebody else is going to write Spider-Man and OMD is meant to bridge the gap between JMS’ run and the new guys’ run.
I noticed that no one is getting Stan Lee’s comments on the matter yet. Think it’ll be the one time he openly admits he hates one of Joe’s idiot ideas instead of being all nice about it? Or will we get another subtle jab on Who wants to be a superhero like he did with the unmasking?
Personally, I think the very notion of punching reality itself so hard that everything gets fucked up is so close to the edge of self-conscious stupidity that I’m willing to give DC a pass for all but admitting how ridiculous it all is, right there on the page. He punched reality. He PUNCHED reality. He gave that bitch a black eye.
Marvel, on the other hand, doesn’t even have that much of an excuse. Just wiping shit out and saying, “Yeah, magic did it” is annoying. It’s like listening to a religious nut try to explain away all the contradictions in their holy text of choice by saying if god is responsible, then it doesn’t matter because god can do anything.
I don’t know. Is Stan Lee even capable of talking about anything without trying to hype the shit out of it?
The Superboy Prime punch didnt even happen in freakin Infinite Crisis and had no real bearing on that crossover. It is the most overrated fanboy complaint of people who didnt even read the comics ever
I see where you are going but Infinite Crisis still wasnt good. I heard things about the punch but i personally didnt like the result of it and even though i have the TPB meh
Identity Crisis was great writing, it’s just that maxx doesn’t read comics like we do. Just because his favorite hero got stabbed makes it bad writing.
But yeah, it made sense the way he baited and trapped the Flash. Not hard to believe at all. A victim of bad writing? In no way possible. I think Identity Crisis should have been the actual event and NOT Infinite Crisis. It just felt right.
EDIT - Deathstroke getting in on Firestorm was pretty bullshit, though. I don’t know what the fuck Firestorm was thinking there. He could have played runaway Storm on that fight all day.
uh? well it made sense on he got shanked. its just with flash so many writers are rediculously inconsistant. Like sometimes everyone moves in superslow motion to the flash even when he’s standing still. and then some writers are like fuck that ish…he’s moving mach 1 thats it…no faster.
wish they would just rework him so he can be more consistant. I dont care if they got rid of the speed force…just as long as it made it more consistant.
Part 5 of the JQ OMD interview but he doesn’t talk about Spider-Man or OMD at all… Um, he talks about video games like Zelda and Guitar Hero though, running a bar, his band, working at FAO Schwartz, um, shrug… :wonder:
