god damn, I thought that was going to be a match vid! lol
since this thread has come back, if anyone knows where I can find some…:wgrin:
yeah I get pretty lucky on youtube…however spectral isn’t such a popular game. I did see it was being sold on playasia.
I also found this little tidbit on magicbox
source: spectral generation @ magic box
“- Idea Factory announced they will release a PSP port of the arcade 2D fighting game Spectral Vs. Generation in August 2006, the game features popular characters from the Spectral Force and Generation of Chaos RPG series.”
Since I just got the game yesturday, I guess im going to input my opinion on this game…
I just got it and I kinda like it, nice animations and artwork, its like GGXX with more animations and Alpha 3 gfx. Gameplay is like a fusion between Samurai Shodown (it has burst and its activated the same way), Last Blade, GGXX and Rage of the Dragons (for the part where you press two buttons and you do a combo sequence which pretty much works the same way on every other character) - only diffrence is that the combo sequence thing doesn’t start as fast as in RotD and it doesn’t show you what buttons you have to press so you gotta figure it out (its simple though) - also I dont know if you can do other combo sequences when you press the two buttons I only know of one combo route during that move. And thankfully it doesn’t do much damage, especially when you do it at the end of a combo you already performed because of damage scaling.
Anyway at first glance, just by looking at the intro I kinda new the game would almost look as if it were running on a Playstation. But once I started playing it didn’t look as bad as I had thought and I got into the gameplay. The game is very combo friendly and I wouldn’t be suprised if the game had infinites though since I haven’t played with anybody else except the AI so far. There is this one character named Wells where I kept doing this really easy ass wall combo during practice mode, however I dont know if air recovery excists in this game yet, I do know you can recover from a fall but I can continue doing the wall loop before the opponent even comes close to the ground so im not sure. There are like 3 other characters that I could easily do infinites with so im guessing its broken just because of that, if damage doesn’t kill you because of damage scaling, then timer will…
Im not sure if there are hidden/unlockable things or characters in the PS2 version, though im not sure, the game only has 10 Playable characters, one of them is a toned down version of the boss with a slight change in moves I think (kinda like Ino compared to Boss Ino or Dizzy compared to Boss Dizzy) I’ve only played the game for like an hour or two and went through Arcade mode once.
And speaking of Arcade Mode, the Boss of the game is extremely cheap, in fact I am not sure if he is beatable on any other difficulty other than Easy. I had to quit the game and lower the difficulty because I could not find any openings or cheap tactics, there were times I was close to beating him on Medium (if your character has projectiles you can keep doing that and the boss will constantly run into them but he does enough damage to make a simple comeback) but he gets his bar fast and he always uses his Lv3.
I figured out a few things about the battle system so far, probably the coolest feature in the game is how you can slow down time by pressing all three slash buttons while in the end of a move that knocks the opponent into the air, which will allow you to run up to the opponent quick and continue the combo, using this move only takes out 1 bar from your gauge as well… The damage scaling kicks in pretty fast though, I have a 17 hit wall combo with this guy with a huge sword and at the end of the day it comes close to half damage while just wasting a level 1 Super (Lv3’s do a shitload of damage, but I think that depends on how much health the opponent has left - its like GGXX the lower your health the lesser the damage the supers will do).
Anyway, my only problem with this game is Practice Mode, it lacks some useful options… It doesn’t have Counter On/Off, Set Dummy to Attack, including you cant put in a second player, and you cant set the dummy to CPU and probably some other things I cant remember at the moment. Aside from that, I just wish it had more characters even though 10 sounds good enough I guess, hopefully there will be a 2nd game with the improvements. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those descent/good 2D Fighters that aint going to get much recognition (like Melty Blood) simply cause of the fact its broken combo - wise (though people can ban infinites…)
Oh, I just found that that if you collide weapons at the same time with the opponent the screen will freeze for a moment and the stage’s music with change to some sort of a anime/j-pop-like theme.
did this game have a good storyline and endings for a fighter game
Well the artwork, including ending artwork is pretty good, though I didn’t understand the dialogue for shit since its in japanese.
is there a site or link to where to buy the game or a download for mame or anything???
actually the computer doesnt actually escape combos in practice mode. I found a bunch of stuff the computer would just eat, but when done against humans were easily escapable. Doesn’t mean there are no infinites. What I liked about the game was they took alot character archetypes and fixed them up. The jojo type character was really well done I thought. They were also smart enough to avoid aegis type unblockables. there are different routes in those strings you mentioning. I remember I would change mine up to start different pressure charts as they were falling. I remember the guy with the flame sword had a really long combo but I dont think it was worth all the meter with the damage scaling. I got some games going for awhile with the local cvs2 crew, but they like everything that isnt cvs2 they lost interest. I might bring it evo for kicks if anyone is interested.
Here’s a G3 match video for Spectral vs Generation.

As well as our combo video that shows how some of the infinites are set up.
