Southwest 3rd Strike thread: part 2

3rd Strike is so Boring…

But ya’ll like it so it is all cool.

Greenbar Ken is not boring. He’s very exciting to watch and play. He sees parries 5 seconds in advanced!

Khang: Not everyone has been playing Ken. Actually, still not that many Ken’s at SG. I’ve been playing Dudley alot lately too. And you know Turtler, “Let me play XXX character and parry into throw a couple of times, lose, then pick someone else, repeat.”

Hmmm… maybe I should help up to Houston this weekend?! I need some real 3s practice.

I always thought that San Antonio was a hotbed for 3S talent?!?!?!

Yes with the Ken’s who do close c. short, dash in, throw.

Or the Elena who does back dash x 3, Rhino Horn over and over.

Someone needs to play Alex in Houston besides me. :bluu: And when I say play him, I mean actually try and win with him. I know there are some people who mess around with him, but no one ever sticks with him.

A lot of people have been asking me how to play Hugo, as of late. I don’t play him seriously, I just play every now and then. Turtler is supposedly “good” with Hugo, but that was way back…er, he was never good with Hugo. :stuck_out_tongue:

Some things with Hugo that I haven’t already mentioned. It’s very infuriating to play that mofo. Not only cuz he’s butt-ugly, but he’s big.

  1. Patience is the key. You can’t just jump around spinning the joystick, hoping you’ll land safely to get an SPD. That’s just scrubby, don’t do it. There are times when I win with Hugo and I don’t throw at all. Which, ironically, is kinda sad.

  2. Resist the urge to wake-up throw. Practically every character can jump back fierce Hugo. This sucks. Block on wake up.

  3. If you’re gonna learn Hugo, for God’s sake please learn his normals. You’ll be working a lot with st. jab, st. strong, and cr. forward. Resist the urge to do such craptacular moves as cr. roundhouse and cr. fierce even though they look cool.

  4. Practice, practice, PRACTICE your ground game. Again, don’t you even THINK about jumping around with Hugo. If you get frustrated from getting beat by turtling tactics, don’t do desperation jump ins. Hugo gets owned in the air on so many occasions.

  5. Patience is the key.

Maybe someone else can come along and add.

Hugo also has a REALLY good cr. strong.

I tend to jump with Hugo if i know that i can cross them up with down fierce(splash.) I guarentee that if you do that 3 times in a row then you will be guarenteed a jump over 720;)

Just for future reference:
Turtler NEVER loses. He always wins in theory. So, even if the computer said you won, you really didn’t. Owned by Turtler.

Tuan: i missed the Hugo setup! Damn It!

Turtler owns all…

That is all…

In theory, Hugo is the best player if you can parry everything. :lame:

I like reading posts by people who say stuff like, “A good ___ player can and will parry everything you do, so that’s why ___ should be top-tier.”

i own in theory fighter. Hugo is no fun because everybody plays ken against me and cheats.

I don’t play Ken.

What game is this, “Theory Fighter” you speak of? Is it on Dreamcast? Can you burn me a copy, I want to practice. :stuck_out_tongue:

Does Hayao play that ugly, yellow Hugo with SA I? Why can’t you play like that?!?!

Hey guys- If someone were looking for 3s comp in NOLA, where would he find it?

I’m bored and curious.

What makes you pick a certain character? Like, why do you pick Ken SA1? Why do you pick Q? And so on.

I’m curious because some new people are picking up 3S. The problem is, they look around and see who everyone else is using…THEN pick a character they don’t ever see get picked. There reasoning? “Oh, I want to be original.”

Yes, everyone wants to be original, but does that character suit your playing style? Shouldn’t there be other reasons why you pick a certain character? If you like to mash buttons and constantly be doing things, there’s no reason for you to be pick certain characters (and vice versa).

Another question is, is it so hard to stick with one character? I mean, every character (except Ken  ) has bad matchups. Every character has certain advantages AND disadvantages. The thing is, I see some people playing characters that get exploited from time to time (Hugo and Dudley spring to mind immediately).

While yes, there are some cheesy things you can do against these characters. But don’t you want to be good with your character? Or are you looking for a cheesy win because people don’t know how to play against your “original” character?

I don’t know. I want to see what other people have to say.

By the way, no offense to Hugo players or anything, but I just can’t see why anyone would want Hugo to be their main character. I mean, he’s big, ugly, AND stupid. That’s 3 strikes already!

I’m gonna show u whos boss with Hugo at TS fool. Wasup man how u been? I cant seem to play with one guy. I try but its hard to beat everyone with Urien. But when I alturnate between Tryant and Aegis I stay on the machine alot longer than using just one super. As for tourneys I have to go to Chun for Chun though. Not fucking around with that match up anymore ya know.
Neway Khan I need a new av that says “True Karate”. Fuck that KOF shit I got up I want MAKOTO on there! I dont care what u do for the design as long as MAKOTO in the av with the words “True Karate” somewhere in it.

Well I’ll c u soon

Dudley has minor problems against characters with a big low forward super threat like Ken and Chun. However this can be avoided and he can still win these matchups if he’s careful. Dudley’s worst matchup in my opinion is Remy. All Remy has to do is keep tossing LOV’s mixing it up with standing strong canceled to LOV when (not if) Dudley tries to jump in. There’s almost nothing Dudley can do, his low jump works against him in this matchup. Dudley’s one goal in this match is to get in close on Remy, if he can do this, he has a very good chance of winning, but once again, it’s very difficult to get in on Remy, and Remy has the EX Flash kick to send Dudley to the other side of the screen.
