Southwest 3rd Strike thread: part 2

No weekly, but we are going to all meet Sunday for casual around 2:00-3:00PM. We are going to switch to a monthly tournament format due to previously poor turnout.

somebody post up some Q strats…besides taunt three times. he is fun to play and if somebody would help me out i would appreciate it!

Q strats? Hmmm…ever watch TK? XCOPY him! Somethings that I’ve noticed with the Q players:

  1. They are really good at parrying.
  2. They are not aggressive at all. It seems that they play to counter poke.
  3. Command grab, EX rush punch, then back roundhouse is cool.
  4. Q is tall. On wake up, the opponent can do like jump back roundhouse and still nail Q in the head. Which leads to…
  5. Close standing jab is really good for people who like to jump on you.
  6. Standing strong is better then his dash. Use it when you need to move forward.

Some things that I like to say.

  1. His kara-throw is standing strong.
  2. Use SA I.
  3. Back roundhouse is ok anti-air. No one situations are good to use it and which are good for standing jab.

Ok, if you’re going to play Q, you’re going to need a lot of patience. Good luck with that.

its 3 taunts. Tuan, I found out a setup with Makoto. After she does her rush punch and your getting out of range do foward and short kick to get u back in and then standing short into the ex chop. It works great on people.

Q

Taunts
The most important thing to do as Q is taunt. Some good times to taunt include after an anti-air rush punch, after a connected air to air fierce, after a critical combo, after a deadly double, any time you are on opposite sides of the screen from each other(slighty character dependant, don’t be stupid, use your head). If all they can throw at you is a fireball at long range go ahead and taunt. If you already have 2 taunts in, go ahead and taunt the third time. Get those taunts in early as possible, this is particularly true for when Q has to fight either of the twins.

The wakeup game
There’s really only 2 things to do when your opponent is waking up, you can go for a C&DB, or do the slaps(jab)if you think they are going to jump. C. roundhouse isn’t a bad idea either, since it knocks them down and you get to start the wakeup game over again.

C&DB
This has the most range of any standard throw in the game(don’t count crap like oro’s EX kishin riki :wink: ). It has more range than a gigas breaker. This throw will grab people out of all sorts of super arts and special moves. If you are in the open the best thing to do after a C&DB is EX rush punch, standing roundhouse. This does more damage than critical combo. Note that for that combo to work on the smaller characters like the twins, oro, etc, you must use the forward grab, because you can’t connect it off the roundhouse grab. If you’re in the corner, just do a jab rush punch followed by back + fierce. Tick throws are top tier, jump in fierce, standing jab, cancel into RH C&DB works a lot.

Supers
I always use critical combo, for a variety of reasons. It has invincibility frames you can use to go through things like fireballs to punish people. It is excellent for punishing blocked sweeps.

Random stuff
Back + strong and standing forward are you best normals, forward is a great poke with excellent priority, while back + strong just has amazing priority and will beat out a lot of stuff. Q’s kara throw is absolutely amazing. Use strong or back + strong, you can see him take a step forward before he throws, it’s sick. Throws are important to Q since it starts his wakeup game, so you should try to kara throw as often as possible.

Well that’s about all I can think of. Feel free to add stuff :slight_smile:

Alternating between jumping roundhouse/fierce is good. It creates a similar situation with Dudley’s jumping roundhouse/fierce. Parrying it consistantly gets iffy since the jumping roundhouse takes some time to come out.

Standing forward is definately a good move. Use it.

Don’t forget about UOH xx super. Speaking of which, you can link Deadly Double (SA II) after overhead rush punch.

Q’s jump in with jab is good for some reason just like Alex’s. Fireball with mid kick foreball with punch is a great tool when u gotta supa!

Always buffer his super when you do a one of his dash punches.

You’re going to be using Jab and short buttons… A LOT. Rarely use his fierce and roundhouse on the ground. SO SLOW!

Kara-throw is probably like second best compared to Chun Li. Too bad he walks so slow!

Getting off 3 taunts ASAP is very important if you want to stand a chance.

If you command grab them in the corner, you can do the jab dash attack and then back+roundhouse. It knocks the screen up so it’s hard for them to see what you are doing. If you do a command grab right after you do the back+roundhouse you will grab them when they land.
