Good post, but I really like this line.
I’m taking a break from playing a lot of online matches for the next day or two. I’m tired of something like Soul Throw coming out when that’s not the move I want, or missing a Spiral after c.mp or c.hp. In every match, I always find myself making at least one execution error. The weird thing is, I went into Training Mode, and I practiced c.mp -> SS nearly 50x in a row, and I was able to do so without missing once. I don’t know if it’s online or what, but it has happened offline as well. Maybe it’s just my execution. I’m not having luck with plinking either. I tried doing c.lp -> c.lk -> c.lp + mp -> SS, but it’s not working. Any tips on that? Maybe I’m better off just doing it without plinking. How can I get these down without going back to matches, and making the same mistakes again afterwards? That’s something I’m concerned about.
Questions: 1. What is autopiloting exactly? Someone told me that I autopiloted today, but I thought that’s when you desperately try to use the same exact combos on your opponent, no matter how easily punishable it is.
2. How good is a meaty c.lk on your opponent's wake-up? What makes it such a good meaty attack? Does your opponent have to block it right after getting up, or is it just a move that you can use for baiting?
3. How do I deal with command throws? Whenever I block, I get command thrown. Whenever I use EX Soul Spiral, it gets blocked and I get punished. If I backdash, sometimes the opponent OS, and I get hit with a sweep.
4. What are some OS for Rose that I could use? I haven't implemented them into my gameplay, and I think it's important.
- cr.lp–>cr.lp+cr.hk done meaty on their wakeup
if they back dash your first lp will whiff and your sweep will catch them, if they block, two lp’s come out so you can finish your blockstring/combo (universal OS),
cr.lk–>EX.Spiral done meaty on their wakeup
if they back dash your lk will whiff and your ex spiral will catch them, if they block, only your cr.lk comes out and you can continue pressuring them
i usually wait to do these OS after the first round once i see a habit of backdashing.

idk, id have to view a video of your gameplay today to see why he’d say your autopiloting, is there anything repetitive that you do that he catches you on?
-
trying to figure that out myself, are you taking about abel? i havent tried yet, maybe wakeup with cl.mk?
Thanks, I was trying to find some.

I think I know why that person said I was autopiloting. The reason being, I kept doing slide into c.MP, or I just kept doing slide too much. Maybe instead of slide, I could do c.MK instead.

I talked to Anton, and he said that I have to react accordingly to my opponent’s attack. For example, if he’s going to do a command throw, I should backdash. If he is OS backdash, then I should block the meaty attack that follows, etc.
That’s part of Autopilot. It’s mainly just someone playing the same way every match and doesn’t adapt to said person/matchup no matter how they do.
For Rose no idea. I would think cr.MK would be better as a meaty than cr.lk since the hitbox on cr.lk is kinda big. The point of a meaty attack on someone’s wakeup is that if they try to do anything besides block, they eat the hit and you get the ability to possibly link stuff that isn’t able to on regular hit (such as the Makoto cr.LK>U1 that was done at the Europe tourney) and frame advantage due to hitting the opponent late in the active frames. (think cl.MK after Abel’s knockdown.)
Depends on who is bothering you. Gief/Hawk, stay out of range, Abel is more on knowing the matchup and the setups people throw at you. I find Abel more of a threat though since he can actually get in easily with step kick to start the mixups.
How are you using EX Spiral? Kinda vague here.
If you’re getting OSed with backdashes, start learning not to rely on backdashes. Rose’s backdash is good, but because backdashes can be OSed, it’s more the reason to not rely on it too much during wakeup/pressure/crossups.
Someone posted a OS Rose has in one of the sticky threads. She really doesn’t have any. 1 consist of using EX Spiral and the other is the U2 setup. (knockdown, j.FP OS with EX Spiral or Knockdown, j.FP OS with U2) She has others (another dealing with her sweep and of course the Rufus dive kick OS.)
what was the rufus dive kick OS? i remember seeing it in a post, this matchup still pisses me off.
sksksk, When you plink you dont hit the lp+mp at the same time you roll your fingers from mp to lp very quickly. ALMOST at the same time, but not.
Also, against command throws, when you see a command throw setup just use cl.mk and you’ll be airborne and ungrabbable. Stuffs everything even T.Hawk’s/Geef’s ultra. Dont get too predictable with it, escape by other means but if you get put into one of those abel setups and you know its coming you can go for that and it will stuff his TT.
Rufus divekick OS is cr.lp+cr.lk+cr.hp, you better be sure he’s gonna jump again or grab. if he doesnt its punish-city.
After an untechable knockdown i like to dash forward and whiff a standing medium punch or a cl.mk to bait the opponent into thinking im open and then either going for another cl.mk, backdashing, blocking, neutral jumping, or throwing afterwards depending on how i’ve read them throughout the match
cl.HK>LP+LK.
I didn’t realize that I could use cl.mk on wake-up to stop command throws. Thanks for all the tips and advice, I learned a couple of things. For plinking, I thought you had to press lp first, and then mp right after? As for dealing with Rufus’s Dive Kick, I agree that cl. HK is the better option.
You didn’t? I thought that was self-explanatory after you know that cl.MK makes Rose airborne, thus avoiding every command throw under the sun (except Oil Dive).
Plinking, the stronger attack (aka the button you WANT to register twice) has to go first.
No, I typically used cl. MK on my opponent’s wake-up, not my wake-up. Usually on my wake-up, I would backdash, EX Soul Spiral, or just block. Considering cl.MK’s properties, I need to use it more often. Ah, I see. Does it really matter because in the end, it registers the input as c.lp + c.mp, no? Doesn’t the stronger attack input have more priority?
I wouldn’t use cl.MK on your wakeup. Anyone can bait that with a neutral jump or by blocking. Really, on wakeup, just block unless you’re trying to escape pressure (EX spiral, backdash.)
also be weary using meaty cl.MK on T.Hawk and Gief as they both have answers outside of command grab. (gief with Lariat and i’m sure U2 if they decide to use that, Hawk with DP)
Yes, however from what I’ve seen, the plink itself won’t register unless you go the other way. Like if you do it with the weak attack first, it won’t register twice.
Of course, I’m a novice at plinking myself, I only really try using it for Rose’s s.MP, c.MP link. Just go into training and turn on inputs, and see for yourself what works and what doesn’t.
sk, its not registering as lp + mp. its registering as:
lp + mp
mp
The mp registers twice, thus giving you the plink. If you hit lp first it will register as
lp+mp
lp
which doesnt give you two mp inputs.
I didnt know about the hk OS, and i like it…
Oh, no wonder. I see my mistake. I kept pressing lp first, then mp. Maybe I’ll have more luck now with plinking.
playing in my first tournament next week. Very very scared.
You shouldn’t be, I think you’ll have a blast. When I went to my first tournament nearly a week ago, I was really nervous. I couldn’t even sleep until 5 am that morning. Once I got there, I was still pretty nervous. I was unable to get any casuals in before the tournament. After the tournament was over though, I had a great time. I made plenty of new friends, and got a lot of casuals in. It’s certainly better than playing a ton of online battles instead, that’s for sure. This particular experience really showed me how much I was missing out on the competitive scene, and how friendly people really are. That’s why I’m going to Guard Crush next Wednesday ;D.
whats the > mean in cl.HK>LP+LK ?
What’s odder skskskkskskskskskskksksks is I found a room mate through the tourney thread, and he happens to be another rose player!
Also biggest fear right now is playing daigo first round. I’ll cry.

When you option select, you press a button first and then you press the next few buttons in a quick succession.
The technical symbol for it is ~, but > is passable as well.
