Soul Society: Rose General Discussion!

Take me seriously or not, but Rose is based along with the Rose players from the song “Toy Soldiers” by Martika, and I will prove why by breaking the song down!

Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers

This first set right here relates to us moving back and forth in the heart of battle, but still getting knocked down, option selected, and it goes on for every time the chorus plays in the rest of the song.

It wasn’t my intention to mislead you
Rose isn’t that great of a character, but her fast pokes and basicness along with safe spirals and other shit mislead you to seeing her as an amazing character that you’re going to use forever.

It never should have been this way
What can I say?

This shows that U2 wasn’t really supposed to be that way and there’s nothing we can say about it because we abuse it anyway and it’s all fair in love and war :D.

It’s true, I did extend the invitation
I never knew how long you’d stay

Again in relation to U2. We abused it and we didn’t know when it was gonna be gone, but it’s gone now and we are trying to extend the stay by talking to Ono about it and hoping but we really don’t know what’s going to happen D:.

When you hear temptation call
It’s your heart that takes, takes the fall

Yes, we feel the need to use her, but we’re only falling behind because she has horrible match ups and she really isn’t the best character, but we still feel for her deep inside.

Won’t you come out and play with me
That’s basically Rose’s question at all times

Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers

Repeat of the chorus.

Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers

Okay, it’s self explanatory. Bit by bit, torn apart — we always lose. We never win, but the battle wages on. We simply never win, the battle goes on though and we always use her.

It’s getting hard to wake up in the morning
 We have no wake up options.

My head is spinning constantly
How can it be?

Thoughts of Bison!

How could I be so blind to this addiction?
If I don’t stop, the next one’s gonna be me

This is in relation to the Rose players. We obviously love Rose, we love playing as Rose, but we’re always asking for more, always losing hope of Rose because we just have some dying match ups.

Only emptiness remains
We’re missing tools, a lot of tools that we actually kinda need and we’re losing more.

It replaces all, all the pain
As Rose players, a lot of us actually like playing with the disadvantage! So we have to be careful D:.

*Won’t you come out and play with me

Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers

Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers

We never win

Only emptiness remains
It replaces all, all the pain
Won’t you come out and play with me

Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers

Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers

Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers

Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers*
Just repeats of the way through.

As you can see, Rose is and Rose players as well is based off Toy Soldiers :looney:

And here’s a link to the video if you want to see it

you must be fucking bored. anyway speaking of this i try to quit rose but for some reason i just can’t. yeah she is now my secondary instead so i will still use her.

I know you probably would go further with Chun than you can with Rose, but I think she can really help you in tournaments, especially when it comes to those that may not have much experience against her. The problem is, she has a lot of troubling match-ups against frequently used tournament characters, like Balrog, Rufus, etc. This is why she is pretty much obsolete when it comes to character-lock tournaments. In those types of match-ups, you have to work a bit harder to win. If she had better wake-up options, I think she wouldn’t have as much of a problem against those rushdown characters. If I entered a tournament right now, I would use Rose, because I really haven’t had much experience using Chun as much. I think it’s worth the time and effort to just concentrate on her for now.

yeah i just started with her i just need more experience. i use chun at cf more for match-up practice. i use rose mostly for akuma, guile, viper and to avoid a mirror match. yes not many people know the rose match-up and they get frustrated. just watch Sabin’s videos on the character lock tournaments it will help you see what to do with her bad match-ups.

Good source of Rose material, thanks

i think more people need to watch how Sabin plays that’s why. also idk why everyone is encouraging each other to use online to improve. doesn’t anyone realize online play there is always lag? i noticed this forum has members set up online training using rose mirror matches. i really do not see how you guys are gonna get better this way. also some people on this forum are being a little to cocky yet they do not enter tournaments, go to arcades or not even apart of their local scene. if you guys really want to level up and get ready to go to tournaments i suggest you guys do at least one of the three. most of you guys don’t realize that when you experience the scene first hand its nothing like watching on the stream. you also meet new people and those who are passionate about FGs like you guys. everyone wants one another to get better. i understand most people here may not have one or you can’t go for some reason but a lot of you guys make excuses to leave your house and stay on psn or xbl. I’m not saying all this to target anyone in particular just saying something most don’t understand. i’ll even admit i have not been apart of this scene for long but i feel as if i have improved a lot since i did.

Online makes you better player.

Just not at too fast of a pace.

It’s either we have online training sessions, or we don’t have any at all. We live all over the country, nevertheless the world. We can’t organize sessions offline, it’s just not possible. Although it is online, we still have the opportunity to learn something, and apply those skills in our offline play. When I first made the transition from the 360 to the PS3, I played someone named BlackJaguarXD, who is a friend that I’ve known for a long time. It was from him that I learned how to anti-air with c.HP. It was from him that I learned how to use Rose as more of a poking/zoning character. If it wasn’t for him, my Rose would not be at the level that I am now. We can play offline yes, but it costs money, and some of us can’t afford to go every single day, or week, unless we know someone who we can play the game competitively with at the convenience of our own home. I would go to CTF every day if money wasn’t an issue. By playing online, you can learn a couple of things from your opponent. If we couldn’t play online with SSFIV, think about all the top online matches out there that we look at in order to improve our game. It’s not a complete waste of time. As Anton has said, it’s just not as fast of a pace as you would get by playing offline.

good stuff to sabin btw for placing, 4th? at seasons beatings. I only seen em use rose against marlin pie, i dont know if he used em anywhere else.

He used her against an Abel too :stuck_out_tongue:

this is retarded. I got full screen ultra’d by CHUN when I did a hp soul spark. What a joke the hitbox is.

I know how you feel. It has happened to me once before as well, and it was at a really bad time. My opponent had nearly 1% health left, and I was just shocked. It goes to show that if Chun is using U1, you really need to watch the projectiles.

The hitbox isn’t even the problem. Why are you doing HP spark on Chun with meter? You asked for it by not paying attention.

Yeah, I’m sorry, don’t blame the hitbox, if you’re throwing Sparks against a Fully Loaded Chun, you DESERVE to get rocked by Hosenka.

Better Chuns would even use Dash Ultra, so full screen don’t mean crap.

DON’T THROW SPARKS AGAINST CHUN WITH METER AND CHARGE!

I think the lesson to be learned here is, NEVER throw Soul Sparks on your opponent’s wake-up if he/she has Ultra ready. You’re better off doing something else like a meaty c.lk, which is much safer.

Or, if I know my opponent’s ultra has absolutely NO Horizontal Range, I’ll throw a Spark. Know the opponent’s character. If you don’t, you don’t stand a chance with Rose as it is.

dont make the same mistake daigo does throwing fireballs on peoples wakeup LOL

Of course, that comes into consideration as well. If you’re facing someone like a Cammy that has U1 ready, you don’t want to throw out Soul Sparks. However, if you’re facing someone like Ryu that has U2, then it’s completely safe, assuming that you are not within distance. There are many ways to approach this. Sometimes using Soul Spark on your opponent’s wake-up is a habit that you just develop over time, despite the Ultra your opponent is using. If anyone has this sort of habit, I think it would be advisable to start looking for other alternatives, so you don’t find yourself in this kind of situation so much.

i did not know chun’s u1 was a full screen ultra. She was on the other side of the screen, and I was at the other end. Even the guy messaging after saying how odd it was.

I’ve learned a lot from online play, but I dont play to win online. I play to learn blockstrings and to try stuff. I guess you could say that I play to learn online. Offline, in tournaments, I play much more patient and I try to zone/out-wait my opponent much more. For example: I play against a lot of cammy’s online. I never wait against them. Im always trying to bait out cannon spike, safejump crossup on wakeup. Im basically always doing SOMETHING just to see what they will do in certain situations, even when they start rushing down I try to figure out their can of sprite patterns and OS fp/throw them. BUT When I play a good cammy in tournament, Im more about analyzing their playstyle and going for whats safe (ie: conservative crouch teching, if any) as to not eat a big combo, I’ll use what I learned online against other cammy’s (in regards to their options if i do ‘x’) but not all at once & not obvious like I would in an online match… Its more about being safe because there is actually something at stake. Granted, I got bodied by marlinpie at the last FNB, but I learned from it and was able to win a couple casuals against him post-tournament.

Idk, online definitely has its uses, and it is a really good utility if you use it properly… but it doesnt compare to playing offline where you have to actually face the consequences of your actions and your strategy/skill actually matters.

If im rufus online i dont give a fuck about what you’re doing, im rushing that shit down. IRL, Im trying to zone you a bit, play footsies, and trick you into falling for my shenanigans and/or put you into autopilot and destroy you for it.

I think that online tells you what people want to do. Offline tells you what people actually do.
