More than that. . the game had horrible gamebreaking glitches, one of which allows you to get out of hitstun during a launcher move.
Let us not forget about the one that gave frame advantage to the person who GOT guard impacted/parried.

i remember that, to solve the problem on the arcade version they had to remove the entire mechanic from the game
I never played 4, but by the sound of it they didn’t learn from 3. Make the game SC1 or 2 status. Also give us Chronicles of the Sword again and improve on it. I liked it, but it could’ve been better. It was a little too straightforward.
I missed Chronicles of the Sword in SCIV. Instead we got that Tower of Souls crap, or something rather. Definitely would like to see Chronicles return in SCV with improvements, as you said. Another thing I miss is all the other fighting styles you could give your customized characters. Rather than being limited to only copy n’ pastes of established characters’ fighting styles, you had the option to use others like Katana & Shuriken, Grieve Edge, etc.
I have to agree with Rhio2K, but I might give this one a chance.
Only thing is that there’s not much reason to invest in an arcade release, when your product is clearly intended to be in the hands of a Western audience (where arcades are scarce) ASAP.
If Odashima and them want to play the same game that MvC3 and MK are playing (if not possibly go on to surpass them both), then let’s hope they actually take such an undertaking seriously. Between the way that SC3-PS2 was a bug-ridden POS that shouldn’t have been released to market in the form it was, and SC4 being a game that was promised “continued support through DLC and patches” that it never got, there’s a lot that the new Project Soul has to prove.
When did SC become a product for Western audiences? And what does “ASAP” mean? Tekken fans don’t mind waiting for a console release 2-3 years after the arcade run, especially when they end up with a better product.
iirc the tekken 6 consoles resolution where downgraded
Arcade 1024x768
PS3 & 360?1024x576
There is so much retardness being posted here, its not even worth replying to.
Acting like SC is the only series that has glitches and balanced issues…Don’t be madd because you guys Can’t understand having a BLOCK button.
facepalm/
Kinda late, but IIRC Tira possesses one of Cassandra’s kids in SC4. It’s why she’s all semi-evil or whatever.
If I’m not mistaken, she doesn’t possess, but links Phyrra to Soul Edge, or something like that.
FYI: ASAP = As Soon As Possible
Any way, maybe you missed the memo. But SC clearly became a “Western” franchise years ago, when it proved it could sell well enough to warrant going without an arcade release. That much became further ingrained when SC started shifting more towards western interests. After all, Star Wars and God of War may be of some interest in Japan, but CLEARLY those franchises showing up as “guests” in the last two games were geared towards a Western demographic than they were Eastern.
And for further proof, here’s something Odashima tweeted just an hour before I posted:
So, if that much doesn’t convince you of where SC stands as far as Namco is concerned, I don’t know what will.
…Which Tekken fans are you talking about?
Because, at least from my experience, there was much more belly-aching to be had as people had to wait so long for a console port of Tekken 6/BR, making it so that there was a clear division between the “haves” and the “have-nots”, especially in the US. And then when they finally did get a console port, it certainly was not a “better product that was worth the wait”. Hecatom’s post only belies part of the issues that plagued both versions.
There was a glitch in SC3 were Rock started walking on the wall of the arena.
Beat that, other fighting games!
Who are your mains in the series? Nightmare, Cervantes and Talim (In SC3, big sword and the stretchy/enlarging staff.)
Who do you want as guest characters? Nobody. That’s right, NOBODY. If not nobody, some people from FF.
What are your pros/cons with the series? Pros? Fun singleplayer stuff, alot of things to do (ESPECIALLY IN SC3, I LOVE THAT GAME FOR THE CHARACTER CREATION RTS MODE! BRING IT BACK!), aesthetics, innovative gameplay.
Cons? Not really playable in the real fighting game community, not as a competitive game. Lack of innovation in the actual combat over the years. The characters often don’t bring out the core elements of the combat system, they don’t utilize the spacing and such the game claims to be about.
Why do you hate/like it? I love Soul Calibur because of the great memories it’s provided me. It’s really been a must buy every iteration of it, except SCIV.
EDIT: It was Chronicles of the Sword. Bring that shit back, that was the best game mode ever created for any fighting game ever. EVER. And bring back SC3’s Character Creation, and improve upon it, instead of shitting all over it like you did in SCIV.
uhhhh they don’t?
Tekken console wasn’t terrible but it was really lackluster… unless you like that tekken force mode they added.
Honestly, I never really cared for Tekken Force Mode, Devil Within, Scenario Campaign, or whatever they wanna call it. Back in Tekken 3, I did like Force mode because I was younger and it was something new to do. Plus I think there was Tekken Ball and Bowling in that one too. I could be wrong. It has been a long time. Anyway, the thing that really bugged me about it in Tekken 6 was that grinding the Scenario Campaign over and over again was the only good way to unlock clothing and get decent amounts of money to buy more crap with. Fights themselves didn’t seem to earn you very much, so I always felt like I had to grind the campaign mode if I wanted to get stuff for characters. The whole system in that mode was clunky anyway, which made it worse. But it’s just my opinion. I’m sure there are plenty who might like that mode.
Personally, I loved most things about Soul Calibur 4 (besides the easily spammable characters, which subsided once I learned how to counter them).
This CaS RTS in SC3 seems interesting; but I never got to play 3, so I don’t know what it was like.
the customization options in 4 I think were great, marred only by the lack of more modern clothing pieces (I mean, people are going to make The Hulk and infinite variations of BDSM homosexual Voldo characters no matter what). I constantly see people bitching about the stats attatched to clothing items; that was only active if you were playing in Special Mode, not Normal Mode.
So you’re talking out of your ass. Thanks for removing any doubt.
It’s not like SC4 isn’t full of guest characters, designed by artists that are better known in the East than the West. It’s not like Nintendo’s Link wasn’t a guest character. You just omitted those obvious examples because it ruins your argument.
And since when did arcade = Japan and console = West? SC4 sold well in Japan and SCV should fare better with a larger install base.
The Tekken fans who established Tekken as Namco’s best-selling game. They don’t mind because they bought the game anyway. Funny that in one paragraph you talk about sales this and sales that, then in another it’s all about unsubstantiated anecdotes that don’t draw a conclusion either way.
Tekken 6 console is the product of several patches, a new edition with extra content, visual improvement and extra characters. Of course it’s a better product, although it wasn’t perfect.
You already admitted that Namco’s track record for improving the game through patches/DLC isn’t very reliable. They’re not Capcom. Improving T6 console would have been a gamble for the fanbase, if they released the vanilla version that landed in arcades in 2007, “ASAP.”
It is disappointing that SCV arcade might not happen. Tekken wasn’t very popular in Japan arcades either, and it had a greater share of sales on console, like SC… until Tekken 5 had an agressive arcade rollout and established itself as Japan’s most popular fighter. That’s proof positive that times and tastes change, but I guess Namco isn’t taking the risk this time with the economic downturn.
