Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

Tekken Bowling was in Tag.

I dunno, since maybe the fact that arcades are all but on their last legs in the Western market, and thus irrelevant to the discussion in that region of the world? And that pretty much every Japanese arcade announcement/release is translation to the average western fighting gamer for “so how much long I gotta wait before I can play this game on my PS360”?

I mean, there-in lies your reason why Capcom likely didn’t even bother with an arcade run for MvC3, as well. Marvel is much more relevant to Western interests, so Capcom merely marketed the game as they deemed appropriate.

…According to who, now? Famitsu has quite a different story to tell.

*Famitsu Sales: 2008 Software TOP500

113. [PS3] Soul Calibur IV (Bandai Namco) 120,213
250. [360] Soul Calibur IV (Bandai Namco) 53,403

So in Japan, SC4 sold a grand total of 173,616 units in 2008, across two consoles. Even if you do go with the shady VGChartz and their totals for lifetime sales, the bottomline is that Japan ended up not contributing much at all to SC4’s total sales, which ended up being around 2.3 million by the time of this 2009 fiscal report: http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/en/ir/financial/pdf_bnh/en_20090520_1.pdf

So, where did the bulk of those sales come from? The very ones who Namco recognizes as their target audience for SC5: console players in the Americas, Europe and etc.

So in short, SC4 cemented the series’ present course, and SC5 is looking to continue that trend. Hell, go to 8WR, which is one of the main hubs for the SC community (both casual and competitive). You’d find that there are very few, if any, who are salty over the lack of an arcade announcement. And this is the general populace representative of the very ones that Namco wants Odashima to sell SC5 towards.

I’ll tell you in simple terms why SCIV sold well-- because there’s an SCV in development for all regions, including Japan and Asia. And that’s all the evidence that normal people, without inside information, need to concern themselves with, without looking like they’re completely full of shit. But keep embarrassing yourself by pretending that you’re qualified to speak on behalf of Bandai/Namco and their sales goals…

…while using NeoGAF and VGChartz as your references.

Meanwhile, in your infinite wisdom and resources, you haven’t cited any documentation that clearly states SC has become a “Western franchise.” I’m done with this idiot debate until you do-- it’s off-topic anyway.

Shitty advice

Wow, it really has been a long time then xD sorry. I’m tempted to play Tag again now.

why would namco need to bring sc5 to arcade when they can fix balance issues, glitches etc easily online

and if they’re gonna diversify the game like I expect them to then an arcade port would be a waste of their tekken tag, tekken x street fighter time when they can sort it all out remotely online

didn’t seem to really bother the guys playing t5dr at evo2k8

also i’m pretty sure SCIV sold well because the only competition at the time was the Hyper Fighting port on XBL, DoA, Brawl, and the VF5 port for PS3 which hilariously lacked online play

Dude SC always sell well. Its a Greatest Hits across all Consoles in no time. Competition or no Competition.

There has always been a Tourney Scene for it. No Arcade release hurt SC3 to a degree, but things are different now.

Its too bad Tekken and SF have been around so long, so people will gravitate to those games. If you didnt own a DC (which you should have becuz all the FGs were there) you wouldn’t have played SC1, so you wouldn’t have been playing the greatness throughout the years, you would have been jumping on whatever everyone else was playing…

Sc5 will be great. I mean, if MK can be played seriously…

Because they’re never going to get a competitive scene going in Asian countries without one.

Also thread is dumb. Not posting in it anymore. Lol.

Pyrrah (Sophitia’s daughter) Confirmed for SC5

with this we can assume that neither sophitia or cassandra wouldnt be back on SC5

And I’d kinda hoped to see a matronly Sophitia, her design was supposed to be goddess inspired. I never liked Cassandra though so I’m cool with that replacement.

I didn’t own a Dreamcast, but I still played it.

That’s just an outline.

Yep, I’m mainin’ her.

Patroklos going to be nerfed to bottom tier

Pyrrah overbuffed to god tier

I hope they make character specific stages/themes this time around.

I also don’t get what they mean by making the fighting mechanics lighter and what not. Isn’t it already easily accessible and beginner friendly? Are they trying to make it easier to beat players that know how to play?

I’m assuming that Pyrrah will be villain in this one considering what happens to her in SCIV. I can see Patroklos trying to save his sister’s soul as his motivation.

I’m guessing IV didn’t have character stages like III did. I want Sophitia to return. I didn’t care for Cassandra, but Sophitia was my bitch along with Seong Mina.

Who knows what they mean. Maybe they are making the game a bit faster, maybe they are getting rid of system mechanics that were in 4. Let it play out.

Sounds like as solid a theory as any to me. And if she gets Sophitia’s crotch-grab that match’ll instantly become reaaaaaaal awkward.

Are Sophitia’s kids twins?

Don’t think it was ever established.

Pyrrah means ‘fire’ in Greek.

Patroklos and Pyrrah once fought over a shard of the original Soul Edge their father mistakenly took home.
