If you’re referring to SFxT’s LMHH chain-style combos, then I agree. Don’t the Tekken characters keep their combo strings the way they did in T6? Z.W.E.I. sort of reminds me about Kenshin and his play-style
@Cynergy: I know those changes, I’m well aware of that. All I’ve wondered is what if the fight mechanics would be a little like Tekken’s, combo strings and what not. That’s just me
Not just that, look at any thread in FGD about any new game from Japan, you’ll see folks start complaining about how it’s a masher game due to abc style chains.
This has actually been known for a little while, now.
But yeah, if that just meant that Odashima and his crew got a chance to focus on actual mechanics, while CC2 handles one of things they do best, so much the better.
played sieg/soph/ivy in 2 and same in 3 and nightmare/soph in 4
I just hope that nightmare is in the game. I always preferred sieg in SC2 and never really liked how they split up sieg and nightmare into 2 different characters. But it seems unlikely that sieg is gonna be anything much different from his 4 incarnation… only time will tell.
Hopefully some rumors that I’ve read on 8 way run about soph being the new nightmare are wrong.
Which is it that has you worried? Not having a character like Nightmare, or not having someone who plays like the classic Nightmare in SC5? Siegfried in SC2 was based more off Nightmare in SC1 while Nightmare in SC2 was very different (if memory serves me).
I personally hope the rumors about Sophitia being Nightmare are true since that will change things up. I don’t think we need too many clones this time around. This is coming from someone who mains Lizardman in basically every SC game he appears in because I like the character (and grew to like the sword/shield style) but even I will admit we don’t need him in SC5 simply because his move set won’t bring anything that different to the table (we have 2 sword/shield fighters already). I’d rather see someone resembling Liz with a new moveset (like totally different weapon) then another clone. Same feelings about Nightmare I guess. Though I will admit they are something of a Ryu and Ken for Soul Calibur so seeing them face off against each other can be neat. Maybe we’ll get a Nightmare alt costume for Sieg.
I dont know about the Nightmare from SC4…but the one in 3 was garbage if you ask me. Unsafe everything.
Nightmare as a character and playstyle have to be intact…I mean he’s kinda the posterboy for SC games.
People will continue to make “shortsighted comments” until more people (good people) actually get to play the game. When people dont know shit and they are forced to analyze what they have you cant fault anyone for saying anything.
Soul Calibur’s community outside of France has yet to make a dent into the fighting game community, and yet you guys are constantly acting as if the Calibur series is so relevant and its community is so active and flourishing. Thats the kind of delusion that has us where we are today, with the first real playtest of the game in FRANCE, because thats where the best Calibur players are in the world.
If this game doesnt get the support of SRK, then you can look forward to plenty of tournament minis and wednesday night ranbats.
I swear yall need to stop trying to shit on SRK, reason 1,001 why I have to pump myself full of xanax before I browse the 8wayrun boards. The delusion is mind-boggling.
I have to somewhat agree on some of the SC people on 8way being “not all there” but I think they know they really could use a shot in their game’s arm.
I agree with Dev that I REALLY REALLY hoping for some zoning type space characters from those two. They both look cool as hell so I hope they catch on with players but if Zwei is gonna be hard to play it may just be blind hope.
How much zoning are you expecting in a weapons-based 3d fighter set around the 1500s? Its not like these characters have viable teleports and projectiles.
Soul Calibur is turning into something else its so strange.
Kinda like how the Onimusha games slowly progressed into a futuristic game by Onimusha 3 when the Demon “technology” ended up being crude forms of modern day machines in the era of warring states.
It NEEDS to change something because if a game doesn’t have a good scene in either U.S or Japan its usually shit outta luck since the rest of the gaming world follows U.S first then Jpn 2nd. Of course I still expect SC because I’ve loved it since my grandfather taught me to play it at a young age but it needs to evolve or it’ll get buried

In the wise words of CM Punk: “Evolve or die”
Sick. I’ll have to look it up. This is great news.
My favorite was sc2 nightmare so I would prefer that. But him being in the game would just be nice and it looks like he will be. He was decent in 4 and I was fine with that. So long as he is not complete trash I’ll be ok with it.
agreed. but then again sc3 had more problems then that. The game was a nightmare.
Not that I go out of my way to do it, but I don’t see why I can’t fault people for being too lazy/stupid to look for any info or ask in the right places and then make up bullshit claims.
Yeah, that’s just ignorance tbh. I used to be like that myself (confession time!) but it doesnt mean that the game will be bad overall.
So are there new announcements?
Because I rather get head by a prostitute with razor blades in her mouth than to look for anything in 8wayrun’s SC5 general discussion?
You’re essentially asking people to dig for secondhand info, since before yesterday we only had info from one “top player” in the SC France community on one of the earliest builds of the game.
And videos, and people who have inside access (Though there’s many things that can’t be disclosed), and players who are more than willing to discuss the game if you don’t go in with blatant hostility.
