Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

Rawwwwr! Soul calibur community hates me! I’ll just say whatever the fuck I want regardless of factuality!

That’s what ur doin.

Kayane’s smile could cure cancer. Seriously.

Good interview.

shrug

The only thing I was ever concerned about was the just defend and guard impact systems. Both of which still have no real anaylsis on.

I could care less what the calibur community thinks of me its not like theres a real tournament scene in the US. I didnt make 3 bad games in a row either.

Holla at me when you take off those rose colored glasses.

Yo holla at me when you’re not uninformed.

That was corny.

Anyway I really dont care about it as much as you think.

Outside of this topic there is no hype for this game. Without SRK what will become of the US tournament scene for Soul Calibur? Nowhere. Realize that.

So as it stands I said some new mechanics were stupid and you suggested for the 8 or 9th time that I “inform myself” on how they work. Dont care. Two parry mechanics. Guard impact costs meter. lololol

covers ears

dont care dont care dont care

So we’re getting SCV for BAM here in Melbourne this weekend. Anything people want me to try and look into?

You do realise the scene for SC has existed just fine mostly independent from SRK for the better part of a decade right? (Yes even during it’s SC1/2 “glory days”) Oh right you just pop off without knowing shit that’s right. Never mind!

THAT’S THE WAY!

@YYB, where would SRK be if it wasn’t using the same forum software and modules pioneered by 8wayrun.com?

You say that there’s no analysis on just guard and guard impact when they have, then when people do try to inform you, you just fall back on “SC doesn’t have a tournament scene, lol” argument. I’ll leave this here for you to check out.

Instead of trolling, just ask a question like any normal person. Plenty of people have asked questions about the game in this thread without issue. And if you didn’t care, you wouldn’t be posting so much about SC5.

Until someone with common sense over there can make a fuckin topic with information in the FIRST POST and not constantly link others to 30 page topics where only 2 or 3 people posting have actually played the game you have no right to accuse someone of “not reading up” …or whatever the hell you’re talking about.

Why is the Calibur community so damn retarded?

Like why are you still asking me to read that topic when theres not even any talk of someone who played the damn game until well into the double digits? Why do you expect me to sift through through that shit? I dont care THAT much, if anything the SC community needs to make the information accessible. You could have just copied the actual posts with INFORMATION since you seem to know exactly where they are and posted them. But you didnt. Nobody cares THAT much to dig for information that would be readily available.

Which is hilarious because I already said how disorganized and childish the community was. WAH WAHH “find it yourself” …then you post a link to a 30 page topic full of bs. Thats why VF community lives. Thats why BB/GG community lives. Thats why Tekken community lives. There are countless topics with information about system mechanics on top of speculation, and often they are separated into different places to keep the boards cleaned up.

If I could speak French I’d just read the Soulcalibur.fr boards

I posted that thread because you said that there was no analysis, but you don’t want to read the thread in the first place.

I also said just ask a question in this thread and people will give you an answer, instead you ramble on about more nonsense. We already know that you troll all day, so is there something specific that you want to know or not about SC5? If there is, I’m sure you’ll get an answer from me or someone else.

  1. How much frame advantage does just defend give over guard impact?
  2. If guard impact gives more frame advantage than just defend then why use just defend? If just defend gives more advantage over guard impact then why would someone waste their meter?
  3. The 8WR boards said just defend wasnt a 3rd Strike parry, but it negates blockstun, so what is that?
  4. If no significant advantage is given off a just defend wouldnt that punish the person blocking anyway?

I’m essentially trying to make sense of having both, because as it stands one is going to be more practical in tournament play. We just havent figured that out.

One costs meter and negates all normal hits.

One doesn’t but still requires you to guess high or low. It was posted in this very thread (in a post directly addressing you). But who cares about that? It’s cooler just to say shit.

Apparently the window for JG is 2 frames for the curious.

The first question that I asked when I heard about just guard was what was the point in adding another defensive mechanic to the game when defense was already strong in SC4. But just guard isn’t as powerful as people thought it would be and not as powerful as a 3rd Strike parry is. It shaves some blockstun based on the move being guarded. Plus you still have to guess the level of attack and only have a 2 frame window to execute it.

Guard impact now costs meter, but covers all H/M/L attacks except throws, CEs, and unblockables. Saitoh mentioned that GI into Astaroth’s CE was guaranteed, but you will need 125% meter which is one and a quarter of bar to do so to give you an idea.

The sense of having both is because of the amount of offense that is being added to the game, especially if moves have better frames which appears to be the case and the improved movement the game has over SC4. And which one you use is going to depend on your situation, how much meter you have, what you want to use your meter for, etc.

EDIT: This video is hot!

What does CE mean?

Guard breaks are lookn scary.

Critical Edge

From some of the videos I’ve seen the announcer that says “Round 1, Fight” is pretty lackluster. Buff that guys voice a bit.

Think of them as Super Arts (and Brave Edge as EX).

I haven’t *really *been paying attention to this game for a while. By that, I mean really paying attention to see what’s being changed in the game in terms of system mechanics. I must say, these changes are interesting…in a sort of inauspicious way. At first, I thought that the super meter was just used for the critical edge attacks, but now we have EX attacks, and guard impacting costs meter. The guard impacting thing kinda chaps my hide, but I suppose it’ll work well for this game with the implementation of just guarding. Time will tell.

So far, I think the general reaction to these changes is positive, but I’m still kinda weary. I’m still looking forward to this game, but I hope these changes end up making the game and not breaking it.
