As avoiding attacks the most favorable option in this game, the hori/vert to duck/sidestep mixup is sort of the most important. It carries the most risk and most reward, more so than the mid/low, which is still important, but you would prefer to avoid an attack completely than block it. Basically ducking a horizontal or sidestepping a vertical will give you so many plus frames you can execute your highest damage combo, which is pretty important.
Who has a fast horizontal that hits mid? The only horizontal that hits mid that I know of is the second hit of one of Pyrrha’s strings.
Oh, unless you mean Cervantes’ aB, that move is stupid, hits both high and low i11 for ridiculous damage, absolutely ludicrous on counter-hit if they sidestep.
That doesn’t work, just to let you know. At least, not any more.
It’s also hardly a mixup haha. EVERY option can be beat by just attack Cervy which is easy with the incredibly long startup of all options. Ducking also beats all except raw GDR and who raw GDRs?
Thanks for the reply bros, that info helps a lot. As for a fast horizontal that hits Mid, I guess I was just assuming there was one. Good to know there really isn’t haha.
Like I said earlier, the best OS for iGDR is 214+B+K ~ G
That way if you are a little early you will get the unblockable cancelled into guard.
If you are a little late… well sucks to be you because the recent patch killed the OS into 214K (even Hates RO killed himself with a GDR in tournament apparently)
There are fast horizontals that hit mid. Tira’s GS 3AA for example is i14.
Generally though, if a horizontal hits mid (ie. can punish step and ducking), it’ll have some drawback to it in the form of: shitty range (Tira’s 3AA), unsafe on block (Cervantes’ aB, Pyrrha’s AS AA), or slow startup. Verticals on the other hand have several options that’ll hit mid, are relatively safe, and can lead to absurd combo damage (ie. most people’s 3B launcher), but on the downside, they’re more easily steppable.
Well, Cervy’s aB isn’t all that punishable. Only if used super close up or against characters with fast moves that also have long range. That’s part of the reason it’s so stupid good.
Not even super close. Not everybody gets a free launcher but it’s pretty shit on block so most half-decent characters get something at most ranges, and at the very worst they don’t but he’s at such high disadvantage on block that he can’t really get away with anything besides blocking anyways.
Just to let everyone know, Gamestop is having a sale on their new games. SCV was reduced down to $40 ( KOF13 and UMvC3 down to $30 ). So If you have the time (and money) go pick it/them up.
Since I seem to be having an issue getting a straight answer to this out of the 8WayRun forums… can someone pleas explain to me why Edge Master, Kilik, and Elysium are banned at some tournaments but not others? I find it silly that they’re banned at all.
I can’t answer for all of them, but Elysium is absolutely ridiculous with some movesets since her CE doesn’t change and is stupidly good. I don’t know if she still can, but she had some stupid combos pre-patch with Natsu’s moveset, some of which were 0-deaths if I remember correctly.
She’s probably just as ridiculous if she gets Viola’s.
Cervantes and Viola are really good, but all of the characters can compete in this game. Just pick one that bests fits your playstyle.
Why do some tournaments have them banned? That’s really a question for the person who’s running that particular tournament as a TO can do whatever they want since they’re the one running it. How can 8wayrun give you an answer on what someone else decides to do with their tournament? But from a community standpoint, there’s no reason to ban them, so if you do happen to go to a tournament that’s doing things differently, suggest them to use the official ruleset on 8wayrun.com.
Also, France is streaming their Don King tournament right now. Sponsored by MadCatz, Tritton, and Namco Bandai. This tournament is a FT5 single elimination tournament with the best players in France along with Kerrigan from Germany who almost defeated Keev at World Game Cup.
It’s the best version since SC2 IMO… I was a Taki main back in the Pre-SCV days, and as much as I miss the “character” of Taki, I think Natsu is superior in just about every way gameplay-wise.
