Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

Hilde nerfs why? Explain Namco…

Edit: Oops read some of that wrong…

They are nerfing Maxi’s damage i think, lol.

Some decent Ezio changes i was tired to see the second hit of 6AAB missing on counter hit.

It was never meant to be thrown out there anyways, so you gotta have more tact and knowledge when using it. I was never one to just throw it out anyway without being certain it would hit.

DNS B though remains unchanged, so I will continue to throw that shit out willy nilly against those who can’t punish it well.

Happy my Main alpha pat remains relatively unchanged except for like 9 points of decreased damage lol he got buffs and damage buffs on his other stuff
He’s like viper just stays about the same and quietly gets buffed thank you namco lmfao

Yoshi deserved a lot more
Mitsu deserved more along with some of his just frames back

Natsu did not deserved what happened to her I barely play her and even I know those changes were asinine
How you gonna nerf just frame damage lmfao
Crouching a+b is fucking useless now
Damage nerfs across the board
Completely unfair and really due to whining
She was a solid character before this and now she’s…eh
And that’s putting it nicely

Completely shameful

Viola just got really good and more annoying
And my scrub side is happy they nerfed maxis damage and nerfed lexia to hell and back

All In all the changes are alright but they could’ve done more with step g
Though I’m glad they buffed air control and the guard
Meter

Maxi got a lot worse and is going to have to work a lot harder now.

Viola is going to be goddamn ridiculous. All those mindgames with the orb, and now she actually does damage? If this patch stands up for a long time, she has a shot at top tier status.

Glad my main Nightmare isn’t getting hit too hard. NSS G nerf doesn’t really hurt considering NSS is mostly used in combos anyway, and 66B being less punishable on block… is probably a null, considering it doesn’t get much use anyway. The throw damage nerf hurts, but considering how huge his throw range is anyway and how much damage everything else does it’s not a huge deal.

Zwei, Aeon, and Siegfried are all still bad, Pyrrah and Oprah are still top tier.

Lets all give a good prayer to Siegfried.

Ivy and Ezio buffs so everything is good on my end.

You know, with all the changes to the system in general (Some of these bug fixes are HUGE, and affect certain characters way more than others.) and the general nerfing/buffing, it’s really hard to know how they’re all going to stack up against each other.
That being said, buffing Viola sounds a bit ridonkulous, but we’ll see.

I do wish Dampierre had gotten more buffs though. I really want to play the guy, but he’s so bad…

The scrub in me is happy that they nerfed Maxi. Nigga had retarded damage.

Happy that they also buffed my main Alpha. Took some damage off of a couple of moves(ehhhh), removed a shortcut that I honestly didn’t know existed for a move that I never use in the first place, buffed moves that were already really good in the first place. Me happy.

Alpha Pat actually got nerfed slightly more than buffed. The main nerf was his 1B.B going from a 2F link to 1F. For a move that’s absurdly unsafe if you don’t get the JF out it makes using this more risky. To compensate if you get the 1B.B CH you can do the 1B.B again and get more damage out of it, although overall now that’s 2 1F links rather than 2 2F links. However if aPat does hit 1B.B it leads to wonderful things so I understand the nerf to a point, but I still don’t like it.

HOWEVER getting a damage buff on 3B.B almost more than makes up for 1B.B becoming harder. So for the most part he got out unscathed. Namco just wants us aPat players to have even better execution apparently.

I wonder how much the new costume stuff will cost :o

Not to derail the current discussion but why doesn’t SC5 get it’s own forum here? This is the best version since 2 in my opinion.

I feel like Maxi is still good after this patch. His best tools didn’t suffer much, 66A and 6A both got buffed (IMO), he still does good damage and even though it’s a little too early to tell, if I had to guess I’d say the backstep nerf will help him. My main concern is whether the buffs some characters got (Viola can do close to 200 damage mid-screen, if I recall) will throw the balance out of whack. Good thing this probably isn’t the only patch. I just hope Namco doesn’t walk down the same path NRS did with MK9.

yeah doing 1 bb with alpha is annoying
i can still get it out even online and i didnt even know about the shortcut for agb cause i pressed ag and then abk for the just anyway
fought a natsu online that obviously didnt know about the patch
poor thing was trying to fish for counter hits with 6ab and ground stun with poison darts
such a shame what happened to her

also happy that maxis damage got nerfed cause some of his stuff was just retarded
the back stap and step g nerfs are hurting some people as well
im catching them with alot more step killers now and rightfully so

Is it just me or has the patch made the online significantly worse, both in trying to find a match and how it plays when you get one?

SCV WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP INVITATIONAL HOSTED BY NAMCOBANDAI. 8 MAN BRACKET, INVITE ONLY FOR MAJOR TOURNAMENT WINNERS. $10K POT

This is unprecedented… a “world finals” hosted by the game’s company? Has this ever been done for FGs?

Because there is a very solid dedicated site to competitive Soul Calibur. I could go more into it but that’s basically all there is to it.

Random thought.

I would have never thought a Japanese samurai in a FG would sound as good as he does in a FG in english, that’s Mitsu I’m referring to.

This is the first Soulcalibur game where I actually enjoyed the English voice acting. They did an amazing job.

Here’s a video for you.

Hello, I am a Soul Calibur 5 Scrub.

I need help. The last Soul Calibur I played seriously was 2. I used Kilik. I trying to learn Viola, Xiba and ZWEI.

Viola seems like she has an answer to everything. Quick but no damage.

Xiba is a safety net and ZWEI looks cool but I can’t seem to make him work. The Werewolf seems to miss an awful lot.

What is the main thought process that goes into this game? B counters A and K counters A? I block attacks and attempt to attack all the time in retaliation. Are there that many FRAME TRAPS in this game?

Are A attacks quicker than K attacks?

Is Guard Impact useful? ABK one I mean, not specific GI moves. Is there a wiki with tutorial vids for this game?

My PSN is blodiacommander, please add me for tutelage. There is almost no one that plays during my off time.

90% oif the people that are on play from New York.

Thank you, a soul calibur scrub.

Cervantes and Maxi seem to be really good IMO.

Ok, first, Viola does not have low damage, especially since the patch. She actually has some of the most damaging combos in the game right now, they are just very long. Her main problem, strangely seems to be long range, you would think the ball would help, but it hardly does, she is pretty dead to characters who can sidestep outside her horizontal range and poke.

Zwei I don’t really know enough about yet, he doesn’t seem all that effective to me, but he has some dirty setups and unblockables.

Xiba is Killik, but with shorter range, he was never overly safe and the recent patch hit him fairly hard, making him pretty unsafe now. Honestly a lot of his game seems gimmicky.

Of those 3, if you are going for the strongest character, I would definitely pick Viola, she seems to be a force in the current game.

The main flow of the game is actually horizontal beats sidestep, vertical beats duck. Guarding is a catch all and will give you a chance to strike back, but you can be very easily frame trapped (this game is full of them as you seem to be realising) and punishes are pretty much always a lot stronger if you can avoid attacks all together.

A attacks and K attacks… kind of depends on the character, generally I think of it as A for horizontal, B for vertical and K for interrupting/pokes. But that is extreme generalization and you should really learn the uses of all your characters moves, at least the effective ones.

Guard Impact is pretty good imo. There’s a very critical difference between GI and Just Guard (even if you are a master of it) that many people don’t mention when comparing. That is that GI works on both mids and lows. I pretty much only use it as an escape from a mixup, but it does that job perfectly, even gives you a free combo for it.

Cervantes and Maxi are definitely good. Maxi had a bit of wind taken from his sails, the recent patch hit him pretty hard and he lost a lot of damage. Cervantes (already one of the strongest in the game) got buffed… lol (I’m a Cervantes main XD)
