Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

A pat, Leixia natsu

Leixia is WAY to safe, you literally can just mash buttons. Any button and it’s a frame trap.

Natsu is random but her damage is a bit to high for her speed

A pat…just plain good

So mechanics wise, what’s the difference between 4 and 5? Just curious since they look very similar when watching footage of them in the eyes of a layman.

Most supers, critical finishes and GI’s.

Just to expand on what dark phoenix said

Offence has taken a much more forward role.

Supers have been added.

Guard impacts (the ability to use a once riskier guard that reflected the enemies attack) now costsbar and are less risky as they cover high low etc.

A system to replace gis (called something) have been added as a riskier but rewarding guard where you hold guard for a moment to stop and attack and get an advantage, however it has VERY tight timing

“Ex” moves have been added

“Faster” overall. (The pacing of the game has shiftedslihtly to be a little faster. You feel it more when playing)

8 way runs have been given an animation but function the same.

One hit kills that required a the enemy to be out of armor and guard broken have been removed, (only a hand full of characters had reliable ways to use them in sc4 anyhow)

Guard breaking happens at a much more frequent rate.

Armor is only for show and it breaking off does not deal more damage in that area like sc4.

Leixia is definitely safe, but you can’t just press buttons. That is more frame trapping YOURSELF than your opponent because while safe, you are still negative in almost all situations and can be counterhit.

Not sure why Natsu is random, the majority of her style is setups. Her damage is a little high though; at least she pays for her speed with some risk.

Patsuka…just plain good

Basically the defensive elements of IV that made it almost suicidal to make the first attack have been removed so now the game is more offensive. Still a heavy focus on mixup between hori/vert duck/step with block as a catch all, but not overly powerful defensive position. Just guard sort of fills the role of the old impacts, but it’s mechanics make it really only useful in strings, against telegraphed attacks or in setups where you are effectively frame trapping with a just guard (well kinda).

EDIT: And yeah, it’s a little faster. Not much actually but with the shift into offense it makes it “feel” a LOT faster.

It feels like they only playtested their favorites to be quite honest.

At least a pat require justs. There’s no reason some characters have chains of safe normals.

Yeah that bitch is mad safe btw. Here no reason why she attacks firs, gets hit by one tira move and can legit punish and keep me in a state where I need to guard for the entire match, aka die

I miss the suicidal first hit in 4.
In 5 guarding is suicidal almost.

Leixia isn’t perfectly safe, you can QS between her moves and she has to throw something out eventually that will end her pressure or she gets 0 damage. If what you said was true, EVERYONE would play her and literally every match would be first hit until guard burst.

She is a strong character, but I wouldn’t put her top 5 just yet.

No.

Care to elaborate instead of just undermining that opinion?

Honestly this is my favorite SC as well, 2 was great and all and I have a lot of nostalgia there, but play them side by side, I’d prefer V.

2 and 1 are overatted so much

Obviously i will prefer V for the moment because of my local scene (if we are talking competitively), but is not the same feeling, also two of my fav mains are really boring to play in V (Ivy and Maxi), i’m still skeptical about “Supers” (this is more personal than anything), the only things that keeps me interested are Ezio, Viola and Zwei (without them i would trade this game) new blood is always welcome and some matchups are really interesting, online is great but playing ranked and player matches takes forever and the coliseum is always full good thing that i have a local scene, INB4 “you are just talking from a nostalgic point of view” sorry but no, this is my personal opinion, i’m not bashing the game either, i hope you can understand, just a matter of taste

Hey I put out a combo vid for nightmares GS~k BE loop I saw. It has a 100% combo and such. Its a little choppy at times but its well done for the most part. Im kinda showing it off. tis my first vid.

No problem with your opinion haha.

Supers I’m not sure of totally yet either. I think it’s mostly because of how they are being used currently, in time they should probably be used “randomly” less; the startup is actually not that short, it’s just they aren’t all that noticeable and after the flash many are instant or close to. When people start to predict them I think they will be a much riskier option. Some of them are also a bit safe on block, but some like Pyrrha’s are hilariously easy to JG > sidestep > punish.

As you said only time will tell, is a really logical way to think, some players like to take a lot of risks now, is just hilarious how people get hit by nightmare’s super when i use him, Cervy’s super is also very good imo (nice startup and unblockable), maybe i’m getting a wrong impression because of new players from other FG some players thinks that Fast paced = 100% offense and some players don’t know how to deal when new features are added.

Cervy’s is amazing, but it’s not offensive usually, unless you are using DC A > CE or something. Mostly I use it to scare my opponents into not pressing buttons, because they WILL be shot if they whiff anything. I sometimes use it in combos, but I don’t think it’s worth the damage, especially seeing as there isn’t really any good oki off of it, is great for combo extension on walls though.

No, no, no, you’re supposed to JG all the hits, then combo into your own CE from a jumping attack.

Haha, if only.

I’m not sure whose would be most impressive like that… maybe Maxi’s or Tira’s. Who can combo of a jumping attack? XD

So, I’m pretty sure that I’m going to pass the torch from Maxi to Siegfried. The problem is that I can’t find a hardly any game data about him (damage, health, BnBs, etc.) Can anyone point me to a condensed source of information? I’m sick of getting YouTube videos of people doing the combos from Training Mode >.>

http://8wayrun.com/forums/siegfried.94/ would be a good place to start.

You will probably have significantly more trouble with Sieg than Maxi though, unless the game is patched soon. Also, you won’t find much as far as Siegfried combos, he tends to rely on chipping away with mixups.

IDK about Leixia. I think she is alright but not quite up there with the rest/89
