Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

NM may have some quick moves (agA, 6A, NSS K, 6K), but he doesn’t really have any really solid lows and his close range game ain’t all that good so he can’t keep people off of him that well either.

I’m a fan of Patroklos, but Phyrra is lame. Phyrra Omega is cool though; she’s all like, “I don’t wanna do this, but this sword is magically making me kick your ass.”

What I don’t get is why both Phyrras have Sophitia-esqe moves. I thought that O. Phyrra would have inheirented most of Cassandra’s moveset with a few tweaks since they already had one sister covered already, but that wasn’t the case.

I finally got Algol through quickplay. Yay bubbles! 8WayRun has a thread with some unlock methods if people are interested.

Doesn’t Patrokolos have a Cassandra inspired moveset? Phyrra has a Sophitia inspired moveset. Phyrra Omega basically has Sophitia’s normal moveset.

Other than a command grab and quick 236 B shield attack, no not really.

Just tried Arcade on Hard. Breezed through the first 5 stages easy peasy.

Spent 30 minutes on Nightmare. My total time was somewhere around 33 minutes before I finally said “Fuck it” and gave up. Done with that, never going back to it ever again.

Alpha Patrokolos has Setsuka’s moveset.

Opinions on Pat? I think he has great potential. Its just that he doesn’t have a kilik like poke he can abuse. But once the dude gets in he’s a beast.
Also did I mention how much I fucking hate kilik, the dude is so fracking cheap.

Pat, Py and OPrah are basically a mix and match hodgepodge of Cass and Sophie’s moves (or more precsely, Sophie’s moves with some of Cass’ thrown in).

I’d love for someone to break down how to use OPrah, but I’m currently biased towards Py since I know more ways to combo into super for the latter.

How should I play A.Pat and what moves are useful to playing a good game with him? My first meeting is coming up and I know I’m gonna get bodied. I’ve spent a shit ton of hours trying to get some of his Just frames down, namely the one I’m having most trouble with is Sakura Air combo, but it still feels like I don’t know shit with him.

i love what they’d done to kilik. haven’t found a main yet though. right now i win alot with siegfried because of his mixups but he’s too damn slow. any seasoned opponent can anticipate him

I tried out Phyrra Omega, but I didn’t like her. She can’t combo into her super (as a juggle or after a stun, it only does the first hit of the super), and her EX moves only combo on Counter hit.

I hate this. I want OPrah to be a “Winfry” (WIN for FREE) but right now, when I play her, she’s more like a FREE WIN for whoever’s facing me.

Do any 2D stick players play this game (or other 3D fighters I guess) on pad? I don’t normally play 3D fighters so it feels weird using the stick at times. Clearly a matter of preference I know, but I’m curious regardless. I was just going to try to use default DS3, but as I said mostly curious if this is common or just something I’ll probably adjust to in time.

She can, but the timing is a lot quicker. Watch it in training mode, it connects

This game was made to be even easier on a pad, moves were dropped or shuffled around, like losing any moves that used A+K, so that it’d be easier to bind buttons and use your thumb.

you only need 9 buttons mapped.

G
A
B
K
A+G
B+G
A+B
B+K
A+B+K

K+G is just a taunt and not really needed, so on a 8 button pad, you’ll just need to hit two buttons at once, whither this means having repeated buttons mapped, like 2 G’s, A’s…on a shoulder.

Also for slide moves, like mitsurugi’s bA, if you hit b and then hit a button that has an A on, even if that A is an A+B+K the move will still come out.

My set up, I never even use the left shoulder buttons at all.

Hey ethil here and im new to fighters only starting this last year. I play ae umvc & kof13 problem is im a scrub when it comes to 3d fighters. So here i am starting with SCV im just wanna know if theres anything you can teach me or share with a beginner?

until i learn to block low on reaction I’ll always lose for free on this game, I don’t know what it is about the SLOW lows that always hit me like 90% of the time even back to back…

sigh

liking natsu alot, viola also.
Aeon seems good to me, imo he’s the blanka of the game you just have to play him super basic and lame.

My initial thoughts on character strength atm.

in no order

You’re right. It does connect off of a Stun, but you have to be quick. Strangely, it is only that stun animation that requires tight timing, the other ones (such as the spin) have more lenient timing to connect the full super. Even so, she has less options to combo into Super, and her EX’s still suck.

I’m playing on srick, going well for me. I think I would find 8 way movement difficult with a pad (not to mention Cervy’s iGDRs) but obviously they have tried to make this game more pad friendly.

Loving the game so much right now, thought I would get walked over when I finally went online but actually found the competition quite easy. That’s proabably due to the recent release, but I think a lot of the new players are predominantly 2D players (so am I, but I’ve played a bit in the past, though quite long ago) so they are struggling to get used to the game. I found a lot of people that just wouldn’t block at all, allowed me to have a bit of combo practice haha. (I’m finding 2+ playable, 4+ is so seamless I’m shocked. Best fighting game online I’ve played, better than BBCS2) Even got a comment “what a beast” after winning a round with 2 Cervy combos and a lot of playing around with my opponent. It’s something new to me if it sounds like I’m gloating, but I assume the general level of play will improve with time. Found one Leixia player I played about 8 games with though and I could give him some trouble, but could not win a game. Was a lot of fun, I really love the feel of this game over III and IV.

Right now I’m thinking Natsu, Leixia, Cervy and Algol are going to do really well. Only first impressions though. Aeon and Siegfried struck me as pretty meh.
