its timing, more or less a rhythm, blocking is something that takes practice like any other FG…but like alot of 3D fighting games, Mids break low guard so it isnt wise to crouch block alot but its also important to practice with every character(string characters mostly so you learn them and you know what options they have like going high or low) this helps you “See” moves better…when your able to see moves things like blocking and Gi’s become easier to do. you should be Stepping moves the at slow and liner, however stepping too much is bad as well so you practice on that as well…Gi in this game guards high mid and low, so if your going to spend the meter make sure you know what your punishing and with what, it doesnt hurt to start learning Just Guard either.
Oh and Patrokolos’ low kick is godlikebrokentierWTFweretheythinkingwiththisshit.
the CE has a pretty cool book cover/case, Artbook, making of DVD, a CD with music from the series(IT ISNT A SCV OST) and CAS DLC armor, oh yeah and the game
no the DLC tracks wont be free, not too expensive but not free…
its not that bad o_O like Natsu’s 6B or any other move that gives advantage on hit or block
It’s a great low poke, and his lower diagonal B move with the shield is 0 on block so it’s a good pressure move as well. Same as with -> -> B, only -2 on block as well with good range. Overall, I really like the character. He’s good at nearly anything and his speed is nothing to brush off as well.
I’m not liking the game so far. It feels like SC4.5 . I played about 6 hours last night and got my ranked record to 30-9
Cons
-The SC community is almost dead for a game that just came out. 8wayrun is a ghost town for strats.
-Sidestepping works really well and it’s a lot easier to dodge vertical attacks.
-Not enough new moves for old characters. Yoshi players are still using 6K as their juggle. It’s been the same that since SC3!
-PSN Ranked takes forever to find a match. I’m assuming it’s because there are less players than XBL. It’s hard to find good players too.
-They removed a lot of stances/moves and didn’t add enough new moves to make up for it.
-Nerfs to characters that didn’t even need them. Lizardman, Yoshimitsu
Minor Cons
-Music isn’t as epic as previous SC.
-Graphics look the same as SC4 IMO.
Pros
-Great netcode with PS3 Wireless
-I’m liking the Ultra and EX moves.
you have to wait right about the time when the inital A hits the opponent
then press forward
it took me some time cause i thought it was like yoshis Instant manji fist of cervantes geo da ray with being the fastest imput
as for blocking it really depends on which character you play/play against
remember too that some attacks are special mids which means they can be blocked high or low
also since your natsu you can aa out of alot of other character block strings or punish at you optimal range which is close
plus you kicks are godlike
you would be surprised and the amount of stuff she can interrupt and or punish
regular gi uses meter so i guess you could just guard impact
but you have to slide motion the guard button (off and on really quick so unless you can absolutely see it coming and or anticipate it
you are better off blocking
Edit you said you were new to 3d fighters
just remember that mids eat through crouch guarding and they can be faster then over heads in 2d games so blocking standing is a more active function then in 2d fighter
General 3D FG rule: If your move hits you’re at advantage, if it’s blocked you’re at disadvantage. Of course, there’s exceptions and important details to this as well (i.e. how high disadvantage you can be before you can’t realistically step staple linear mids, stance transitions etc).
I see so I’m better of blocking high mostly since most moves are high and mid. I need to find out what my my best punishers are. also just guard is something i need to learn how it works.
I love how those are 2 of the better themes and yet neither come from a Soul Calibur game.
Aeon is surprisingly slow and has a smaller range than expected. Need to hit the lab with him more but from what I can tell the troves of Pry/Natsu players can decimate him if they stay in close.
Hilde on the other hand is fairly solid, her mid range game is godlike all around. Some slow up close moves to be expected but overall solid character that im sticking with i believe.
Only two I played all day yesterday lol, going to start messing with the other characters today
Tricking is what I expected. So what’s the “that one move™” that the CPU never blocks? Every previous game had one.
Actually they’re not new characters. They are just re-skinned essentially with identical movesets. The producers made the story take place 17 years in the future which means some of the other characters are either dead or too old to fight, so they just replaced them with “newer” versions. Think Asuka Kazama and Jun Kazama from Tekken. Essentially the same but different “character”

Sent this for SRK front page couple days ago but no one posted it.
SCV is easily the best game in the series so far, from a technical standpoint. Oh an, Viola says hi.

Aeon is terrible. I went straight to him wanting him to be my main, but it just isn’t going to happen. His Horizontal moves have short range, he can’t combo from a low, his BBB combo can be Just Guarded and punished on the second or third B (after blocking the first one), the third hit of the BBB combo is only guaranteed off of a Counter (otherwise you can roll away after the second B hits), his Critical Edge does not have instant start-up and it cannot hit OTG, can’t combo into his EX moves, his Unblockable move has a ridiculously long start-up. There’s more than that, but that’s what I can think of off the top of my head.
Those two are technically the same “Con.” In my opinion, this isn’t a con at all. Soul Calibur V is about bringing SC back to its roots, then building it into a better game. The simplified movelists are a result of restructuring and not nerfs. Soul Calibur was one of those series where they just kept adding moves and adding moves, and rarely taking away as many as they added. So, SC eventually ended up with a bunch of characters with convoluted (and many times useless) movelists. SCV fixes that.
Agreed x2.
I did the same as you, jumped to Aeon and went into training mode and did some stuff thinking, “wow these moves are cool!” soon as someone could fight back I just was like… WTF its like they built every character around beating Aeon down haha. Its still one of the most bad ass characters in the game design wise but so far hes just feeling like trash haha.
Switched to Hilde still havnt played other characters yet but went 0-9 in Ranked on Aeon and now am 6-12 after switching to Hilde. Speaking of Ranked, why the balls was i set against a Rank A-3 Natsu! lol
Anyone else serverly underwhelmed by Aeon? He’s just so…I dunno, *WHACK…*bring me my Lizardman back dammit!
Look at the two post before yours. lol
Isn’t Aeon just a re-tooled Kratos from SCIV: Broken Destiny?
And I wish my fucking PS3 didn’t get the YLOD a while back…I’m hyped as shit to play this game but I don’t have a console to play it on for at least a few weeks.
