Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

You guys expect organizers to even WANT to put up with making sure a DJ character is prepped and ready for tourneys when many setups for other games at events don’t even have some roster characters unlocked/DLC accessible? Lol get real.

And I don’t think people canceling pre-orders are going overboard. If anything, it gets the attention of Namco faster than people politely signing petitions and posting wishlist threads. Or the lot of you wishfully thinking that Namco will get it right “next time” because it’s the nice thing to do and their crystal ball allows them to see our deepest thoughts and the cries and tears of children.

Then others are just trying to maintain the peace and order and preserve the integrity of a scene that went to shit long ago. And on SRK no less.

Really, I could bitch too. How many of my characters are gone? Rock, Zas, Mina, Hwang, and used a bit of Talim in SCIII. I honestly didn’t use anyone else since this series was Soul Edge in the arcades. Go ahead and tell me to make them in CaS. Then I’ll tell you that I don’t want to jackoff to my creations online and that I prefer to play in actual tournaments. Then what would you say? “Tough luck”?

Yea, tough luck. And Namco was lazy as fuck.

Daishi said that the character had been balanced for tournament play and suggested resolving the situation by using “standard” body size and in a recent tweet. So there you go, there’s your developer intent. Let’s see you try deleting this post.

This has been done. Daishi said that they don’t think they can make a bonus character for DJ’s move list, but the character has been balanced for tournament play and he suggested resolving the situation by using “standard” body size and in a recent tweet. So there you go, there’s your developer intent.

As far as it requiring effort to set up a preset that has standard body size, it takes very little time and players can do it themselves if it’s missing from the console. If it’s somehow too complicated for TOs to create a custom character with the preset design with the middle body size (i.e. press New Character, press Samurai Pre-set, press Devil Jin (Tekken), press Finish), when they already have to input an unlock code for each console, then I’m at a loss.

What are you talking about? Alpha Pat and Pyrrha Omega have completely different move lists; they should be treated as completely different characters. A-Pat is Setsuka and Oprah is Cassandra (kinda… they mixed Cass and Soph’s moves together and gave some to Pyrrha and some to O-Pyrrha). One mimic is pretty standard in the SC series. So they only really wasted two slots.

You’re not making much sense. So if you and a bunch of other people don’t buy the game NB will bring forth a special crystal ball that tells them that you didn’t buy the game because character X wasn’t in?
It’s not like they have a checklist with all of our names on it and cross your names off because you didn’t buy it.
The best thing to do is to support them and to be vocal about what you want (to them). Yes, really. That is the best course of action if you want something.
Especially since both the series and the team is screwed if this game flops and the chance of you getting what you want is close to 0 if that happens.

Also, keep in mind that I’m not telling you what to do. You can boycott this game if you want, I don’t care.
Do what you feel is best for you, what will lead to make you the most happy.

I know you’re irritated, but stop making wild baseless assumptions. None of us know why they did what they did.

Lol, nah I’m not one of those guys. I don’t have the time to do all that. If I decide not to play this game then it’ll just allow for me a break in between KoF shit and until TTT2 finally comes stateside.

What exactly in my post didn’t make sense? I said that people who actually did cancel pre-orders, and ones that will follow-through on not purchasing, sends a firmer message to a company faster than some other courses of action that will be empty dialogue from someone in public relations. I’m not encouraging this, I just know what CAN come from it. The crystal ball bit was a joke at the numerous people saying, “Hey guys don’t be mad, that’s what SC6 is for! They will surely cater to us in that game! They know our plight, they will deliver. But for now we must keep this game alive hee hee!”

I can see that Namco put forth an ambitious effort up until some of the final roster decisions. Game is faster, might be more potentially balanced than SCIV (but who the fuck knows that yet, might be worse). But I’m not going to verbally praise a company just for putting out an awaited product. That’s not my job, and honestly the “praise” is me spending my dough.

If I buy the game despite how I feel, then I’ve already got my pants down. But I’m just really thoroughly displeased with like…ALL developers this gen. This may be one of the last times I come out of my pocket “just because”. Shit is already getting massively dumbed down, and that’s the new movement I guess. But when I can’t trust them to even get the other stuff right…then what the hell?

I know someone from the “Peace Corp” is prob gonna look this post and say I should be ashamed for being mean and it’s all personal opinion, as if I didn’t know that. And there’s a shitload of people who feel the same way. True enough, you can’t please everyone. But goddamn…

I’m out. You guys keep supporting and stuff. Make sure to have those wallets ready for Master Chief DLC and holiday add-ons to put Santa Hats on Kilik and shit.

The part where you think Namco will give a damn about losing a few hundred buyers for a game they are expecting to be selling millions? By not buying you are sending a firm message to Namco that they are on the right track to making a game that will attract new players.

I want more story mode leaked vids. I want to see Tira’s so bad.

If the loss of a single character is enough to turn you off from buying a game, then this probably isn’t the site for you to post in.

You also might want to consider your criteria for picking characters. Personally, I prefer basing mine on letters, specifically the letters S and A.

You know I’m still getting this game and find the character overreaction of the last few days a bit lolz (but no wonder Namco have been quiet about them lol)… but are we suppose to give the props for rushing this game out the gate to avoid SFxTK or something? This has been clearly rushed as was MVC3, I’m sure the core game will be find but hopefully one year down the line they’ve turned these mimic characters into real ones as well as added a few more.

You right. It is just weird to me that people are more hung up on this rather than this game reportedly actually being really good. I feel for the Talim, Yun, Zas users and the people that maybe wanted to try them out in SC5, but if you are anyone else complaining eh. I just find it hard to believe that a few people could really be that fickle. I didn’t want it to seem like I was saying “blindly support” a corporation that should have their shit together, but this seems pretty petty to dwell on or go as far as saying that you are going to cancel your preorder.

Canceled pre-orders tells NB absolutely nothing. There are an infinite amount of reason why someone would do that. How on earth will Project Soul know what these people think that are not even vocal to them? I don’t know how it works in america, but in the countries I’ve lived in stores don’t save the number of canceled pre-orders on a note and send it over to the company that made and produced the game.
That’s what doesn’t make sense.

But that does make sense. If the people that support you are also vocal about what they want, what reason is there to not do what they want? Those are the people that have the biggest chance of influencing the development team.

I think there are a lot of good devs this gen (but my favorite is Eat Sleep Play).
Hell, I also consider Project Soul to be one of the gens better ones. They didn’t dumb SC5 down either, they actually gave it more depth and focused more on the tourney scene.

As I said before, it has to do with confusion.
I’m honestly confused at certain things people are saying and I’m trying to wrap my head around them.
An example of things that have me confused is what I talked about at the top of this message.

Way to generalize.
You just seem very upset and just want to blow off some steam, so maybe you should take your mind off what’s bothering you for a while (i.e. this game).

The whole thing about using a CAS in a tournament is Dr Dogg said that since he was tournament organizer in his area he would make sure that the character was created and ready for tournament play before hand. He addressed the issue of time with that, and he also suggested voting on preset stats, or using all the default setting, both ideas are shot down.

He just wanted to try something different and see if it worked. If it didnt then it wouldnt be mentioned again. Everyone throws a hissyfit, admin locks the thread. Lol. Its painful to watch.

The problem is the Calibur community strikes again with its srubby casual crybaby mentality bs. At the end of the day they do more harm for the series than it could ever do to itself. Thats why I’m hoping and preying SCV get supported by the bigger community the same way Mortal Kombat did last year, because putting all the control to call the shots in the hands of some of those guys is a guaranteed way to dismantle the community even further. As if their track record at this point isnt pretty convincing that the Calibur community really could use some unity.

Mind you Soul Calibur 3 died in 6 months, and Soul Calibur 4 not much longer than that. Compared to Tekken the SC guys are like a religious cult that complains about things like english voice actors and not enough single player unlockables.

Ouch. That is reminiscent of Smash community shenanigans. I’ve honestly haven’t really heard much about their community because it always seemed really underground, but I’m talking to some cool ass Chicago players right now and they seem really cool; so it’ll be interesting to actually meet up for some casuals. But is the greater community really on that Smash, DOA, backroom suppressant stuff?

Enjoy your halfass game, and blaming everyone who rejects this trifling shit, instead of Namco and your own accommodating, complacently bent-over posteriors, for the game’s inevitably nigh immediately upon release demise.

Marks.

Again all were asking for is some explanation as to why? Whats with the sudden change of heart…And whats wrong with the game, all reports before characters selection have been great. If game play proves to be different in a few months that another subject. As of right now, its looking pretty typical as far as “most” of the SCC goes.

i hope there is a possibility of a compromise for the devil jin style. assuming it isnt broken in tourney play.

Understand. No one is blaming anyone.

You said certain things that didn’t make a lick of sense to me. Like not buying the game or canceling your pre-order is magically going to tell Project Soul exactly why you didn’t buy the game. For all they know, this game might never have been on your radar.
Don’t you agree that the best way to get a certain character in either this game or the next is to support the game and tell the developers what you want?
I’m not telling you to buy a game you don’t want to buy, I’m just explaining to you what would increase the chances of you getting what you want.

And calling the game half-assed and basically labeling people as blind fanboys that mindlessly bash “haters”? You need to calm down, because right now you’re simply throwing a little fit.
No one here is your enemy (honest) and neither is Project Soul.

You’re not gonna get the game? Fine, that’s all well and good and I respect that decision. But no one is forcing you to discuss a game you don’t even seem to like or have intentions of buying. Why not discuss things you enjoy instead?

Personally I just feel that it’d be too big of a hassle to solve this “problem”. I mean Algol wasn’t even allowed in 4 despite the fact that he was a selectable character and not really broken at all.
The style is there for fun. Just like console specific characters (which are banned) are.

Is it impossible? No. Is it one of the most legit (potential) bans for a “character” that may or may not be broken? It’s certainly up at the top of the list.

So the game is half-assed because 3 characters didn’t make the cut and we’ve got two wasted slots on mimics, never mind the story mode, CaS features, online features and actual fun and great looking gameplay? And we’re supposed to be bent-over morons because we’re asking for actual reasons outside of Unity shit for the game being bad instead of rejecting it like entitled pricks because of roster choices, never mind the actually popular characters already being in the game?

Grow up.

Sent from my brain, actually using it.

It is sad that this is best you can come up with when “actually using your brain.”

Did you take it out and play with it, perchance?

Then again, considering how accomodating you are to stupidity, mimicry, and general scarcity of depth… well, let’s just say that the correlation between your tastes and mental capacity have been made abundantly clear.
