Soul Calibur 3 Tier List

While Cervantes, NIghtmare, and Mitsurugi are all very high tier characters, Xianghua is still probably higher than all of them. If you can go on youtube, you can probably still see some high level videos that might show you why. But to put it simple, Xianghua in SC2 was just completely safe on all of her good moves. She may not have done massive damage, but she did enough and she wasn’t going to get hit unless you just happened to not block. Most people would win with Xianghua using only 3B, 22_88B, AAB, 3A, and 1A. You basically just turtle with her and she won’t get hit if you pick your moves right.

Forest - The forums would be a good place for you. So you can learn more about the game, if indeed you like it. There are two sites. Most players go to Caliburforum.com but after reading your post, you may feel more comfortable in soulcaliburuniverse.com Its your pick. Enjoy.

3B, 22_88B, AAB, 3A, and 1A ? I use D/F+B, F,F+B, Back+A, F+A. The numbers are new to me. Thanks, I will try those forums!

The moves are
df+B
DD+B
df+A
and db+A
Which is all X needs. Everything else is just a plus.

This guy is going places.

CarreauOverkill’s description of Soul Calibur was hilarious.

Whoa i am surprised this game is dead. Or is it dead only in the states?

Back in 2006 i remember that sc3 was really thriving in japan and korea.

I found sc3 entertaining because of Mitsu and Setsu glitches. Man i did enjoy using those when the game was being played here. Oh and i had no idea that Cassandra was that good in SC3. She was my favorite character in since SC2. LOL the gaming Gods are good to me in this game.

BTW i believe that SC1 was the best of the calibur series… Plus it sucks that they never really revived a decent Hwang and Lizard man. Those characters really made those top tier fights exciting (when maxi/taki still kicked arse).

Agreein’ wit dis. Not sure I why don’t see anyone playing SC2 around though. :frowning: It seems like the jump to SC3 killed the series entirely. I’m sort of hoping that SC4 will come out and be amazing and fix all this but who knows.

how does tira fair?

I never really hear much about this game

SC3 is kinda dead, people are kinda just waiting for SCIV at this point.

As for Tira, she’s pretty bad. In console, she can’t come close to competing with good characters. She’s slow, super unsafe on most of her attacks, when she DOES hit, she gets little to no advantage, and even disadvantage in a few cases. Takes super high risk to get mediocre damage, while other characters take very little risk to get high damage. An example is her 2A+B. It’s slow, and to get the juggle, it needs CH. CH 2A+B WSB is decent damage, but so many other characters can do that damage with safer launchers, and definitely without CH. On normal hit, she can get an OTG WSB, but the damage is still pitiful for a move that slow and linear. She’s got a slow AA, slow BB, her stances are pretty useless and mostly just gimmicky if the opponent hasnt seen it before. No command throw, slow and unsafe lows. All you can really do with her is try to poke a lot with WSK, 1B, and go for the 66B. If you manage to sidestep, 33BA:A is good, but on block, they can duck the 2nd hit and get free punisher. 33AB:B is slow, pretty unsafe, but otherwise one of her “better” lows.

She’s ok in AE, but still pretty bad compared to the top characters. There was a Tira player at SBO, so she can win tournies, but just not on an extremely large scale. You kinda have to really dumb her game down to a few key moves because she’s not really a character where you have a lot of options that are worth it, as most things get you punished.

Good concept, but she’s just so terrible as a character that there’s no saving that…the “fun” part of using her can’t even happen because its all unsafe. You have to just stick with boring, safe pokes.

^ yeah Ive always had a hard time poking with her it really is a risk. Ive never really do to good with her. guess Ill stick with Mitsurugi.

Random Tira shit:
-6A is a good mid range poke for Tira
-if you can (luckily) land a 9K, you can follow up w/ 2K into 44K, I dunno if it’s guaranteed though like Taki’s BT 2K, PO K
-Tira’s 4BB is better than her BB
-Pretty much after ANYTHING you do you have to block cuz like before, most of her shit is either even on hit or at a MINOR adv.
-It’s pretty much all spacing and pokes w/ Tira you can’t rushdown at all and she doesn’t have any real 2 way option moves aside from her 22A / 22B moves which shouldn’t be spammed at all.

Other than that, the above info from HeartNana is pretty much dead on, I still play Tira as a 2ndary w/ Taki as my main, but hopefully Namco will beef her up in SCIV so I can play her more frequently at tournaments.

So really she can’t even punish good either?
too risky for me.

oh yeah forgot Im not too big on tiers I just play what I play but do you think this is accurate?

P.S. and for everyone else:
THE LINK THE THE SOUL CALIBUR FORUMS!!! you’ll be guaranteed to find more detailed info on there than you will here. Pretty much every question I’ve seen asked on this thread has been answered on there.

Can someone give me a detailed explanation of VC in soul calibur 3?
I have been looking for 2 days and all I can find are three sentence explanations and link to Soulcalibur.com that don’t work.

VC stands for Variable Cancel.

It serves a few purposes

Certain moves, by doing G22 can cancel the move’s recovery. Examples of this are Mitsu’s 88B, Setsuka’s B throw, Zas’s command throw, Lizardman stuff, and any characters Back turned throw. Therefore, the opponent will still be in hitstun (or blockstun with Mitsu’s move) and you recover way faster than youre supposed to, getting free hits. Here’s a vid:

What he’s doing is he soul charges and cancels into a taunt, that puts him back turned, allowing him to do the throw, then cancel it, leaving the opponent as if theyre being thrown, but without Yoshi doing it. Super Glitchy, and it even LOOKS glitchy. Not every character can get BT so easily, but any character can do it from throwing from BT.

-Post GI - If you get GIed, if you G22 right after that, you recover out of the “omg im stunned from being GIed” animation. Obviously, you SHOULD get hit, but you can block or even hit them before they can hit you if you’re fast enough.

-Post throw break - Same thing, if you throw someone and you buffer in G22, if they break it, you can recover out of it quicker than you should be able to. Its really apparant with things like Sophie’s B+G grab, if the followup is broken, then you can G22 and if the opponent doesnt do the same, you literally have enough time to run up and launch them before they can recover.

So when you screw over things like GI’s, throw breaks, throws, etc, it’s really dumb and kinda dums down how to actually play the game.

I still play SC2 sometimes, but never SC3. SC3 is not half as good as SC2 is, IMO.

You are stopping to play SC4, which is probably the 2nd best SC next to SC2…to play the WORST version of SC3? I have no words

Broken tier: Soul Calibur 3

:wonder:
