what about seung mina =( she’s my favorite
Arguements have been started over tiering Voldo - some say he’s upper/mid and others say he’s just a mid. Voldo has some of the fastest frames in 3 and he move’s fairly well. He has great traps and throws, but they can be difficult to master. It depends on the player, a skilled Voldo might be tops, but it may take more than that to drop a veteran Soph or X competitively. I think he’s a mid, like so many other characters in this game.
Mina if I recall was low/mid.
6B+K? Where can I learn this lingo? As far as I know, there are 4 buttons in the game and a direction pad… numbers make it kinda confusing.
But yeah, Rock is my main, for the fun of it. But its hard to find other console SC3 players in Ottawa to practice on

That’s your basic directional notation. Been a while since I played SC3, but I think B+K = block and kick.
So if I’m right about the B+K, 6B+K = towards+block+kick.
B= vertical attack. B button.
She was nerfed from SC2 to 3, and became mid-lowish. From personal experience she was solid mid with her awesome TJs, spacing tools, wonky throw priority, and auto-GIs.
Mi~na = Fuck yeah.
I hope her 3B is 15i again, has her console version 66B (AE one sucked hard), and has her 22B from SC2 in SC4. I’ll play her regardless if I even buy the game (I’ll wait a few weeks).
Laizardoman?
Oooh, right. Like I said, it’s been a while.
X has better lows than anyone because her 1a has mixups on block.
Alex Pereira used to play, and there were a couple guys in Gatineau. But seriously, we all loved SC2, and nobody cared for sc3.
The numbers correspond to the keypad.

So 7 is up left, 8 is up, 9 is up right.
4 is left, 5 is neutral (don’t touch directions at all), 6 is right.
1 is down left, 2 is down, 3 is down right.
All directions assume you’re facing right of course.
Buttons are G for Guard, A for Horizontal Attack, B for Vertical Attack and K for Kickthebitchdownsomestairs.
Hope that helped, as I’m useless in every other aspect.
Cassandra > Everyone else
X and Mitsu own.
Voldo is trash.
So how many SC 3 players play around the Indy area or live somewhat close. Because we are having a SC3 touney at GW along with a bunch of other things check the Tournamets everyone should try and make it out im hoping for a huge turn out.
Does anyone have tips on landing the timing on Mitsurugi’s Just Frame move?
Full Moon Death A>A>A
It is unblockable too, I believe. Thanks!
About tiers, it is hard to tier characters in any SC game beacuse the good parry system balances everything out. If you are a good player using a “low tier” character, you will still win VS a high tier character used by an average skilled player. The rule is less relevent than in SC 2 though because many SC 3 characters have cheap, weird tricks that no one had in SC 2. And, most characters in SC 2 had A,A as a fast one-two combo, but in SC 3 that speed is reduced for most characters, making the A,A less powerfull.
That Mitsu unblockable is not a JF. If u mash A enough times u’ll get it.
And every SC games does have tiers. Top tier characters are even known to have a crazier post-GI game that other characters under them aside from other things. Granted things were added in SC3 that people didnt like, and removing the cancels was another thing people didnt like but, the fact that people could not adapt and jus wanted to do the cool thing (which was hate on SC3) was what affected the game so much.
2KB, FMD AAA when they get up and block. Best ever.
Variable Cancels
Done with guard and tapping down twice, it cancels some actions into neutral stance. If you cancel it off a hit, the move continues invisibly without you actually executing it. So, with for example Mitsurugi’s 88B which is a long heavy sweep, you can cancel it on hit or block and have the move execute the last 10 or so frames on its own while you’re free to do whatever you want while the enemy’s in hit/block stun. This is like +12 on block or something.
More radically, if you execute Night’s B throw with your back turned normally, he grabs a guy by the neck, lifts him up, chokes and then throws him away. If you do his B-throw with your back turned, you can variable cancel out of the animation so that after the grab and the lift, Night releases his hand off the enemy and is in neutral stance. The enemy remains floating in the air, will get choked by an invisible force and then get thrown into the corner. You can do whatever you want with them during this time, such as run around them and throw them while their back is turned so they can’t break it or whip out some ring-out combo. It’s like a big demon man’s version of Makoto’s Karakusa. Note, they can break the initial throw, and the times you get to do these in matches are so few it’s laughable.
VC isn’t really bad, nope. Mitsu 88B VC whoring is lame, but you can get around it… And there’s a glitch where he can kill himself if he does it. Back throws allow for bigger combos but are again really hard to set up.
I was totally cool with the pseudo-death of the post-GI game due to VC resets, allowing you to block instead of counter-GI. I also loved stance cancelling (Neutral to base hold stance VC’d) with Sieg, just because people were too goddamn scared to hit me with horizontals in the fear of eating a B+K Basehold Auto-GI to whatever. My only real beef with VCs is with Zasa’s command throw VC and some freaky Yoshi shit, really - things that broke the game.
I speak this as an European and the PAL version fixes X’s whoring, Setsu’s mid-throw-into-BT-VC and a lot of other weirdness I can’t recall, but Mitsu’s 88B VC, BT VC’s, some stance VCs and GI VCs are still in. And yes, it’s played competitively and on a pretty high level around here. Tiamat said that the US version Nightmare was far superior to the PAL one, but I still managed.
About the characters - Rock is just a slower, even less safe version of Astaroth with less damage. Asta isn’t that good, just stay the fuck down and don’t tech roll - Sieg and Night can shut this guy down, surely the sisters can too. Raph is slower than his SC2 aspect with a lot of verticals and pretty much no horizontal tracking in them. Lizardman had something freaky, Maxi is beastly, Zasa is unsafe, Voldo had mix-ups and a that roll had some funky scrub-killing glitchiness in it. Siegfried had just aGA, a just frame move with improved, range speed and I think it even gave a few frames of advantage on block. That’s about all I can recall from on top of my head. Give Sieg old Night’s 88_22 low kick and more options to his chief stance and he’d go way higher.
All the wankers crying that SC2 was so goood and SC3 was soooo bad because of VC seem to have forgotten things like 2G, which was way worse. Making the majority of moves (like launchers) safe? Sure, these BT throws are much more bothersome. I loved how Mitsu and Night(Sieg) flowed in SC2, though. They got stiffer in SC3. Hell yes, SC3 was different - but not necessarily worse.
Oh. And in the Arcade Edition version, Siegfried has a kick with a 4-6 frame start-up. (22kB). Otherwise it’s really good, no VCs no nothing. It’s a bit slower, though.
I don’t really know my level - and thus the credibility behind what I’m saying - but in the only tourney I participated in, got eliminated early by a killer bracket(2 of the top four). After the tourney I played RvK - Russia’s #2 ranked at the time - and won 35 out of 77 in casuals. My friend and I got split by life so we stopped playing, but he said he played Scandinavia’s best Cassandra for like two days and is now really hyped to continue training with me. I’m just shit rusty, haven’t touched the game in a year.
Goddamn, have to get together with my friend to start playing SC3 again, got motivated with this nostalgia.
I’m going to have to try that Nightmare one.
Vc is stupid, and shouldnt be allowed in any tourneys. Mitsu takes it to a whole other level because not only is he already top, but that jus makes him even more broke. If Rock or Abyss had this, then it’d be perfectly fine, to let them keep it because, those characters just plain out suck.
Zas command grab was allowed (I think it still is, i dunno. Not many Zas players) in the beggining. There was nothing broke about it, because u could only do it once. The camera angle would break if u did the grab back-to-back (which wasnt allowed.)
Yoshi backturned stuff is never seen.
Asta is stupid good. With VC, he’s totally fuckin broke. Guaranteed.
X is still good in PAL because although they took out teleport cancel, they gave her 33B (Three hit mid NC with good damage) into guaranteed 1BB from anywhere. US only allows 1BB and other stuff to hit if she gets u sideturned. Good X players dont rely on the cancel.
What really made this game even worse though, was that they kept nerfing characters left and right as they came out with new releases of the game.
Ex: Tira lost a stance cancel she had in US going to Jap. If anything, they should be throwing things at this character, she doesnt need to be toned down, or have anything removed.
But Carreau, u and ur friends should join the forums if u ever decide to get back into playing. :bgrin:
In my little city (Ottawa), there are no arcades that are indepentent from univertities. All of the Ottawa universities/colleges have arcades, but nowhere else!
Anyways, I put in over 300 hours of VS CPU in Soul Calibur 2 on PS2. That, if you don’t know, is a lot! But I never play VS people who use those “VC” tricks or anything. I heard people say that Xiunghua was the best in SC2, but I personally think/thought that she is the WORST in SC2. Take my point of view from the past years: Xiunghua does LOW damage. She has minups and stuff, but they are somewhat easy for me to see and defend against. Her best move, apparently, is D/F+B. I now know why: because of the cancels and shit. Without all that fancy canceling, Xiunghua is easy prey in SC2 for my Cervantes, Nightmare, Ivy, and even SC2 Cassandra, making Xiunghua look foolish, falling to simple F,F+A+B / D/B+A / qcf+B mixups. I do not doubt that Xuinghua is Top tier, but I ajust have not witnessed WHY she is considered top tier, and better than Cervantes/Nightmare/Mitsurugi.
On another note, If you could give me the link to that SC3 forum it would be cool!
