Soul Caliber 4 yoda and vader ban poll

He’s already banned. Nobody wants to touch his ass.

If they ban Yoda & Vader, they have to unban Algol.

Well, people raised holy hell and rejected SFA2G and SFA3U, so there is precedent for rejecting updates. Also, the 3S patch that fixed Urien’s unblockables was rejected as well.

DLC characters is a different precedent then a patch, or a bad sequel.

If there was a gameplay patch and say, Vader and Yoda were provided as part of it, yeah, unban them.

I just think you’re comparing two different concepts here.

Shit, make me have to pay 5 bucks to practice against a random little shit I may or may not play against in a tourney?

Count me in!

Part of being a competitive player is going to be to have the expansions, just like buying the console, the gamepads or joysticks, and the game itself. it’s not about “wanting it allowed”, it’s the way the game was made. Players will need to get them and deal with them as they’ve dealt with any unlockable character in any other game before.

So lets look at the Champion Edition Upgrade:

  1. Everyone went to the arcade and spent a lot more than $5
  2. Arcade owners made money on the game
  3. Capcom said hey this is great lets upgrade the game
  4. Everyone had to go back to the arcade and spend a lot more than $5 to catch back up

Lets also not forget that some of the main attractions of CE were:

  1. Making the 4 bosses (who were already in the game!) playable.
  2. Allowing the players to pick the same character (should have been in ww anyway)
  3. Some gameplay updates that 0.1% of the players (us) would care about.

In general software is already “unfinished” on release, by using a computer or playing any major video game title, your already saying it’s ok.

The real question is, how do we get to finish these unfinished games in the console era? DLC seems like a good start, of course some companies will abuse it, just like some did with arcade updates (AH). I don’t think that should scare us into abandoning the system altogether.

Will namco invest in a SC4 HF if we buy into a SC4 CE? If your playing the game anyway, why not take a chance on it? This was supposed to be the easier DLC, if we can’t buy Vader and Yoda for $5, I really doubt that they are going to move onto gameplay DLCs that take more time and are targeted at a smaller audience.

I agree that content + gameplay would be ideal, but I doubt execs on either side are going to just let them sit on the Star Wars IP for a year while they figure out what the gameplay issues are, i’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

3S version B was a worse game anyways. Yeah, let’s nerf characters that aren’t top tier! Brilliant!

not sure if i agree with this. using starcraft as an example, and pretending we live in a time before brood war, i wouldnt pay 5 bucks for a “new” unit called the Dark Templar (i think theyre already in OG starcraft but not as a buildable unit, its been a while) but i would readily drop $30 for an expansion pack with DTs, Medics, Corsairs, Devourers, a new campaign, new stages…

i think it comes down to how much value youre getting from the money you spend. if you buy an expansion pack, you get satisfaction from your money spent even if you dont use all the new features. if you buy extra costumes or customization options for your ingame characters, you get satisfaction every time you pick that “extra” nurse/schoolgirl/maid outfit, which is pretty much every time you play anyways. you also get to blame it on your “friend” when people look at you funny. if you spend money on yoda/vader because some people on an internet forum told you to, and you dont actually want to use the character, you are probably getting very little satisfaction for your money. except in hypothetical situations involving tournaments and maybe having to play against certain characters, most of the time that $5 spent isnt doing shit for you.

or, basically this:

some people think that those in favor of the ban are just hating on star wars. well, no. lets pick something else for example, like magneto. hes cool both in comic books and dat mahvel. if they released magneto as a $5 DLC package, id be all over that and would also be the first person arguing FOR banning him.

i would pay $5 for customization parts to make my character look like magneto/haruhi/pedobear but i wouldnt spend that same money for yoda/vader (vader for me). seriously.

im not sure why i typed so much. i was just going to quote that one post and say ‘this’ but thats against the rules so i typed a bunch of other crap to cover up. i hope it isnt too incoherent

who gives a shit

where are the top players that would be using Yoda or darth vader

well looks like we lost by 4 votes, i guess i lost by alot more since almost 100 people wanted yoda banned and vader not, oh well this sucks! maybe i shouldn’t have raked up 700 wins with yoda on xbl wrecking shop along the way. Guess folks like Ghaleon get to keep there five bucks, freakin cheap skates want everything for nothing, art has value everybody knows starwars has premium value but no wants to pay just rip it off the internet. its hard to understand how players think there smarter than the makers in the realm of making profits which is what businesses do. Anyways guess i should have voted more than once nah its cool i’m a street fighter anyways…

But again, you’re reducing the issue down to whether or not you think the update is worth the money, not on the actual update being good/not good. And IMO, this isn’t a good way to determine which updates should become the standard.

If the bar for making bans becomes “can you press the add poll button on your post?”, then there is no hope for competitive gaming.

fortunately the first post says:

I assume that 4 votes plus a lot of non compelling reasons will fall short of this mark.

just curious: What is the KB or MB size of the DLC Yoda or Vader?

if the size is insanely small, then it means that the character was on the disk all along and Scamco is pulling off another Katamari 360 on you.

Vader is about 8MB but that’s including the new stage and probably the extended Apprentice ending.

You’re not getting the point genius. Yoda is inconsistent with the rest of the cast and the game. You can’t throw him; most of you’re moves will whiff against him; some characters are granted random unblockables against him and you’re whole CF animation changes!

I’m sorry, but Yoda’s gameplay doesn’t fit into the game and it’s just a hassle and a waste of time fighting against him and as him (even if you enjoy him, you ain’t winning a tourney I assure you)…

Now spudly on off.

So? Thats no reason to ban him. Servbot is small and tedious to fight and that doesnt stop him from being played(him being totally terrible does however lol). Being unthrowable is dumb but it doesnt break him so that doesnt really matter its just a gimmick. The only real reason to ban him is the DLC argument. Now that I consider it I think Yoda should be banned because it can be unreliable to get him to the tourney itself since many people will just bring the game and use a ps3 brought for Tekken or whatever, but Vader is default on the tourney standard and achievable on the home consoles for xbox users so he should not be banned.

right, and since having the update requires people to spend their money it sorta helps if they dont think its a waste. thats why i quoted someone else in my post because it seems like thats why some people dont want to have those characters in tournaments, so they wont have to 1. waste money and/or 2. support a business model they dont agree with.

and given that the size of the DLC is 8MB, it’s probably an unlock code and some vader/yoda related stage and ending. i think a long time ago someone discovered that the code for vader/yoda was already on the disc just not accessible, i could be wrong though. so yeah, Scamco.

honest question: has there ever been a lasting decision made in a game where the majority was against it (for whatever reason)? i dont know that much about the history of these things. my impression is that if the majority agrees to do something one way, even if its arbitrarily stupid or illogical, thats what ends up happening since those people are the same people that support the whole competitive scene. and since someone will obviously come to the false conclusion that im saying a large group a of scrubs should control competitive gaming, let me clarify and say im talking about a majority of “people who matter”, whatever your definition of that is.

“SC4 costs $5 more for you because you bought the wrong console.”

oh and btw, i didnt vote. i just like arguing the unpopular(or maybe popular?) side sometimes, and i hate star wars. Also i think ghaleon has a good point that some people dont get completely.

If we’re going to start banning because characters have goofy hit properties, then let’s ban everyone in Guilty Gear.

I entirely agree that making you pay for Vader/Yoda is a scam of the highest order, and that making you buy all sorts of crap through DLC that should come free is seriously bullshit.

But that doesn’t mean that all expansions henceforth should be judged by what some people think is worth or not worth the money. If Namco-Bandai starts this shit further, the way to handle it is to not play SC4, and not buy Namco-Bandai games. I stopped buying Madden games because of how piss-poor I found Madden '08 and how I was fed up with the stupid DLC.

Are you retarded? Should I even bother breaking this down? =/

You can feel free. It doesn’t change that you’re saying to ban Yoda because he’s different and annoying.

Yeah except you don’t seem to grasp what ‘different’ means in this context. Actually, you don’t seem grasp anything at all…even your balls evade you.
