Soul Caliber 4 yoda and vader ban poll

For what it’s worth I voted to keep them both.

The people who complain about the $5 DLC either don’t go to tournaments anyway or are extremely fucking dense for not realizing how much they’re already spending.

Obviously I’m for keeping both, and it appears that’s what the community will do. And for the people writing off Yoda as total garbage…it’s starting to look like he’ll be a good counter-pick for Hilde, since her big ring-out combos don’t work on him. If true, that alone means you’ll likely see him somewhere along the line, since she has been one of the more successful tournament characters thus far.

 this is why a team battle is essential instead of simply counter picking

mark my words they know this and are working on it right now

It is quite possible for someone to attend tournies, and really not like the idea of DLC chars being tourney legal. Not everyone who goes to tournies has the same ideas you do.

For example, some people might really hate Star Wars.

the only real “legit” reason for banning DLC chars is because you have to pay for it. even though its just $5, a lot of people for whatever reason will not spend the money to buy it. some people are also opposed to the whole principle of DLC (well, DLC in the form that it is in right now where you pay money to unlock stuff already coded in) and refuse to support it. you might get a guy who hates star wars AND refuses to support DLC in its current form; good luck getting that guy to buy yoda or vader!

you could make the argument that theyre paying a lot already for the game and just to go to tournaments or w/e, but i just think in general people are opposed to paying money for something they dont want no matter how low the price.

i think playing against yoda is like playing against the neco characters in melty blood. in MB, the necos have tiny hitboxes, weird moves, and dont really play like any other character in the game. they are annoying to fight against and you can win with them but theyre not good by any stretch of the imagination. kinda like yoda. IMO they make the game less fun for no reason other than some guy wants to be cool and nonconformist.

im not arguing for or against any side, just throwing some stuff out there. i hate star wars so its pretty obvious im all for ban.

im guilty!

BUT, i do enjoy beating up yoda, i dont really find a problem with it personally so any chance i get i use him against people, and he is quite good if you know how to use him.

there’s a HUGE threat of Yoda being the one that stops peoples enthusiasm for the game so maybe he should just be banned, since there’s two huge reasons why people don’t wanna look at him in sc4

Having to buy Vadez/Yoda is proof shows that Namco-Bandai are stingy bastards looking to gouge the hell outta you.

Not that they shouldn’t be tourney-legal.

It is like playing against necos in MB, and it can be annoying BUT for the same reason necos are allowed so should be yoda.
Also if poeple simply wont buy th DLC thats there choice but they can still play vs vader/yoda online to get an understanding of the character. Not buying the DLC is like not updating your game, sure you can do it(not if you want to play online) but its your disadvantage.

The changes in the game as far as balance is concerned exist independent of Vader/Yoda. As in they aren’t simply an update like this. I don’t necessarily think you should have to buy them, the standard otherwise exists without them. There really isn’t tweaks that come with them other than the character itself.

When I think about it I still think it makes the most sense to ban both of them. It would be a lot more convenient also. Having them legal doesn’t bother me too much, though. I don’t mind playing them. Obviously they aren’t the greatest characters anyway.

(it’s ‘ur’ not ‘er’)

No no, this is just an official, final determination of whether or not you can justify ragequitting when somebody beats you with a Star Wars guest character. :wgrin:

I’m not paying $5 to unlock a character in ANY game. That is awful. DLC is a scam. Forcing people bringing their systems to tourneys to pay extra money to have a complete tourney roster = garbage and I don’t think will EVER be official tourney policy, at least for events not completely centered around SC (which I can’t speak for).

Since Playstation 3 is the main tourney platform I don’t think there’s any reason to ban Vader unless he’s a Gill-like broken boss character (sounds like he isn’t).

I do think you have to ban both if you ban- cause 50% of the people playing this game are playing it on 360, which is just as valid a version as the PS3. The only reason the PS3 is tourney standard is solely due to converters.

Neither char is that good, gameplay is not the reason for ban.

While PS3 may be the main tourney platform, that doesn’t mean that there’s anything close to there being a uniform console people play on. It’s unfair for everyone owning a 360 to be in a position to play against a character they’ve never seen before. It’s not like we’re talking about, say, arcade games vs the versions people have actually seen in their lifetime (you know…on consoles). I’m talking strictly about stuff like in SC2 and pre-DLC SC4.

If there was uniformity with one dissenter in terms of character roster (like back with MK: Deception, where the Cube version had Goro), then sorry to them. Not the case here, though.

Yoda cant be thrown or hit by high attacks.

that doesnt prevent him from sucking.

Which utterly blows my mind, btw.

Oh, okay.

With Yoda, I just 2K with Ivy until the little freak dies like he should.

Doesn’t help that he has no step, slowest character in the game, lacks damage, has 2/3 soul gauge. . the list just goes on. .

I don’t get your complaint, every player has to pay money to the gas stations and the airline companies to even get to tournaments, both have fluctuated way more than $5. If the tournament is at a hotel there’s usually a food court charging double and triple the market price as well. In addition, after a few months, people will be rebuying the game used, giving the developers nothing in return, then paying their money to every other company under the sun (travel, hotel, etc…) with no questions asked. OTOH when the company wants to have some DLC, they are scammers. We really need to rethink who’s side we’re on here, even though yoda and vader may be ‘done’ already, that doesn’t mean that they were free to namco.
